MGM got the seal of approval for the western mass license. Gaming commission votes on Suffolk Downs Revere tomorrow.

It looks like the MGC is going to allow Suffolk/Revere application to proceed, and allow a Revere-only host community vote to take place after the application deadline (12/31) -- probably in mid-February. This seems like a reasonable solution that hopefully would prevent Revere/Suffolk from being tied up in court over the legitimacy of the Revere/Eastie joint vote as it applies to a Revere-only casino. Per MGC twitter, "if Revere vote was successful, MGC would still be on the same schedule to award the single casino license in Region A in April"

It's probably the best solution to a very sticky situation. I would assume a new HCA would pass even more favorably next time as I am sure much more money/jobs would be guaranteed to Revere, and the uncertainty which existed during the November vote due to the Caesar's fiasco is no longer lingering.

Yes. Barring some new cataclysmic revelation (not impossible in this state), I would guess that Revere will pass this in a landslide (if only to stick it to East Boston).
There will still be lawsuits over this (not to mention the repeal petition/referendum), but it looks we're going to have a contest between Suffolk and Wynn in front of the Commission for the license . Either would be ok with me; I just hope the whole thing stays on schedule.
What a state....

Well I think we all knew we would see a slew of lawsuits filed at some point, but I believe this is the first one. Caesar's files federal lawsuit against MGC.

A fair and open and equal process is best for everyone especially for the people. Regardless of some political nonsense being brought into the argument about civil rights or corporate personhood. If caesars is right then their should be repercussions. Sounds like sour grapes though.

Wait, the foreign business partner with alleged mob ties that cost Caesar's the bid is named Pansy Ho? Massachusetts gaming is the gift that keeps on giving.

This is such an odd lawsuit. I am assuming that when they filed the first application and paid the 400k, there must have been a bunch of "you can't sue us for....." clauses in the contract, which is why they are suing Crosby directly and not the MGC. The CET lawyers have probably been looking for some way some how to find a legitimate thing to sue about.

That's probably why it's structured as a civil rights/due process claim under the Constitution.

I guess this news is a little old but I hadn't heard it before. Looks like there might be a ballot question in Mass next year to attempt to repeal the casino law.

Yes but it is likely to be shot down in court before it makes the ballot.
