I don't doubt that for a second, but being Mayor is a 24/7/366 job.

He's been hospitalized recently with Crohn disease, that can be disabling, on top of now having diabetes. I think his position will be mostly a kiss from Suffolk/Caeser to ease into retirement as a thank you for him working behind the scene to steer them the license.

WMUR asked every member of the NH House "Do you support or oppose legalizing casino gambling in New Hampshire in any form, including inside of the state’s budget bills?". You can see the results by town on their website, total results follow:

Watching the Red Sox game, just saw an ad by the Wampanoags, accusing the MA Gaming Commission of "rushing" something through. Gigantic LOL, I've seen glaciers in more of a rush.

people still watch Red Sox games around here?

I do appreciate you guys maintaining this thread so I can continue to wish/hope/dream that someday we might actually get a real room within ~45 mins from home.

They've been buying a lot of ad time for that, running a lot on WBZ-AM & TV.

Agreed. Although it's a shame that this is all the thread is used for. It was intended for much more.

Anyone got any info on twin rivers and a poker room? I've been hearing the commercials promoting table games coming to the casino this summer. They mention baccarat, blackjack etc "and more". I'm wondering if that and more will include a poker room.

The "more" is most likely Let It Ride, 3 Card Poker, Texas Hold'em vs dealer, etc. If they were going to spread poker we would've heard it by now through adds in Cardplayer and Bluff hyping the room.

I've said the same thing to friends, that every single State in the Northeast all the way down Southeast of the US will have a casino before MA

The casino openings are stalled since the Massachusetts Gaming commission is looking for another executive director who has past child abuse charges. Must be a pre-req for the job.

What does the above quote mean?

As far as Massachusetts and New Hampshire getting casinos I think it will be a long time coming.

If I were a member of a group opposed to gambling, in Mass., I'd file suit questioning the three region division of the state. That would keep anything being done for a long time.

I've read about the New Hampshire casino bill and listened to the criticism and despite the fact that I'd like a first class casino with poker room within an hour driving time, I agree that on its face the New Hampshire proposal is not a good one and would benefit almost no one.

I know it's nuts to bet against Steve Wynn, but NO WAY Suffolk isn't getting this license.

My last post or two went down the memory hole so I'll refrain from politics in this most political thread and simply ask: Why is Suffolk Downs getting this license?

Just for the record they were deleted because, whether it was your intention or not, you were heading down a muslims=terrorists rabbit hole and I wasn't gonna let it get there.

No, I wasn't heading down a muslim = terrorist rabbit hole only stating facts, however uncomfortable that makes you. The rabbit hole imagery from Alice In Wonderland fits the times, however.

If you keep up the defense of nonsense maybe they'll kill you last.

Q. Why is Suffolk Downs getting this license?
A. While not possessing any more information that anyone else on the matter, it is MY OPINION, that due to Harrahs/CET bailing out Suffolk Downs, and now owning a sizeable portion of their available debt, it appears that CET would be a logical choice to obtain a gaming license in Massachusetts. They already have a presence. They are a viable gaming company with a proven track record in other states, both operating race tracks as well as casino operations. They arguably kept Suffolk operating in the face of impending bankruptcy, saving a lot of jobs, tax revenue streams and local economies. Sure, its how CET ended up owning the east half of the las vegas Strip. It how a lot of companies end up with stuff.
In this day and age, to not put a full-fledged casino at Suffolk, and allow someone else to operate a nearby casino instead would be a quick death-blow to Suffolk. If Wynn or anyone else put a casino anywhere within 30 miles of Suffolk, why on earth would anyone in their right mind go to Suffolk- terrible traffic, poor parking/walkin/entry, so-so food, creaky physical plant, etc.... I would expect CET to quickly call in their debt lines, closing the track and having a bankruptcy sale. That ain't gonna happen in DeValues Peoples Republic of Taxachusetts- no matter how honest you think any of these hacks are ( yeah, sure). ok, politics aside, its also a pure business decision to allow CET the Suffolk venue.
