Anyone know if the mix game has been running at BBCC? It looks like there's a HORSE+ game that also runs on weekends. Does that include any other games?

It did NOT run yesterday. 4 had signed up as of 2:15, didn't run as of 6pm. Room didn't put it on the board, so had to know via PokerAtlas or whatnot. Makes me think the room doesn't really want it to go. Be curious to hear from them. 2 of us had driven up specifically to play mixed.
Also be warned if you play plo, they rake for jackpot, but plo is only eligible during certain days/times. Chips need a wash! 3 times I had a second red chip inadvertently stick to the one I threw in...
Otherwise room was well run with good dealing.

I was also on the 10/20 LHE and mixed game lists. I didn’t realize that they weren’t on the board in the room, but can confirm that neither were ever called.

The rake/jackpot dropped has steadily been increasing since I started playing there, which was last summer. When I first went the rake was $4 max plus $1 jackpot drop during promo hours. They are now raking $5 max and a $2 jackpot drop at all times.

The rake increase is whatever, but I really dislike how the promo take went from +1 to +2. And as mentioned above, they do the take even during non-promo periods.

It seems like poker rooms everywhere have starting emphasizing promos (and increasing the take accordingly), and I think it's for the worst. Yes, on special promo days it can generate huge crowds and bring out extra rec players, but otherwise it seems to just be a scheme for rooms to accumulate more capital with which they can make money via interest. It lowers win rates for regs, takes money out of the ecosystem, and despite being ostensibly 0 EV, the money is never completely paid out unless the room in question closes, such as the case of Mirage/MGM Grand/Excalibur, where they had freeroll tournament that only a tiny percentage of the promo-paying population got to participate in.

I think we need a way to push back against promos in card rooms up here.

Good luck pushing back. As you said, look at the crowds on promo days.

However, one thing that might help is to stay away on those days when they rake the promo money, but no promo is active that day.

I don't mind paying the promo bucks when you at least have a shot of hitting it, but it seems wrong to be paying that with zero chance of a payback.

Even if you’re playing during promo hours, the promos are usually -EV. Say $50 an hour comes off each table on average, each player pays $5 promo rake an hour. On a $400 an hour high hand only takes 9ish tables to make it neutral EV. Even then you’re social pressured into tipping so it’s -EV in that example. It’s amazing dealers are paid minimum wage and players have to tip while 10k+ is raked everyday. Nice business
100% get rid of “promos”

Technically live poker returned to Massachusetts yesterday, as the EPT is back up and running its charity tourneys/cash games. If you're close enough to NH it's probably not your best option; but for those in the suburban Mass or RI areas it scratches the itch until Twin and/or Encore open back up. So far it looks like Charity will be running just once a week on Thursdays in Walpole, whereas at its height it ran 3-4 times in various locations.

The month of may had the highest revenue of any month since the MA casinos opened. https://www.topuscasinos.com/news/ma...ith-record-may

It's really showing that these casinos can thrive without poker. I for one, would love it to come back, but I get it if it doesn't.

I'm sure there are plenty of slot fanatics pulling up to Encore and proclaiming "Now that those crummy poker players aren't here anymore, I'm going to pump my inheritance into these one-armed bandits!"

I'm doubting that it will continue like that going forward. Once the euphoria of "going out" again subsides they'll come back to earth. After all, it's basically a slot parlor in Everett.

Yeah - this is pent up demand, which I'm pretty sure would subside in the normal course but is even more likely to do so as folks flock to outdoor activities in the summer months.

Also, as travel restrictions subside and other entertainment options continue to come back, it should moderate.

Hey all - Massachusetts resident, $2/$5 and $5/$10 reg here, planning on returning to live poker next weekend for the first time since March 2020.

I am extremely bummed my three preferred places to play (Twin, Encore, MGM) will all be closed for a while, so it's going to be Foxwoods, Mohegan, or one of the NH rooms.

I cut my teeth at FW and MS, but haven't really played at either since Twin/MGM/Encore opened. And I've checked out some of the NH rooms once but barely know one from the other really.

So I'm here to ask for a sort of general state of affairs of New England poker at $2/$5 or higher is here in mid 2021.

What's the major differences between the $2/$5 game at FW vs MS? And how does the general play differ from the NH rooms? Where will I find the best $5/$10 game on a Saturday night?

In general I'm curious about wait times, player pools, action level, etc. Comps/perks, food options, and location aren't really important right now.

Thanks for any thoughts anyone is willing to type out!

I'll preface this by saying I've not played at these rooms post-pandemic but I believe I can provide general guidance.

If you want $5/$10, I'd say head to Connecticut because I'm not sure they even spread that game at Boston Billiards and if they do at Chasers it likely will have long wait lists. But Saturday night it should be very packed at the Connecticut rooms, so call ahead to both rooms to see which will get you on a table sooner.

For $2/$5, I think the NH rooms are competitive in terms of action and perhaps even attract a worse pool of players by comparison. If they are closer to you I'd just go there. If, however, MS and FW are closer, or if you want to throw money in the slots or on table games, or wish to get a better dining experience, then I'd definitely go there instead.

The other thing I'll say is it seems like you're from the area - that is, you're not just here briefly, so you might be best served trying out each one to see which suits you best. Yes, I get that you'd prefer to just land at the perfect room right away; however, maybe give each one a test drive before deciding on the place you want to frequent.

At the moment, both Foxwoods and Mohegan have one 5/10 going each and a total 50 games. The two big rooms in NH have no 5/10 games running and only 30 total tables. Also note that NH are charity rooms that have to give 35% of their profits to charity. That means there are no comps such as free drinks, rooms or meals. The rake is 5+2.

If they are about equal distance, go to CT. I'd only to to NH if you are north of Boston, north of 495 from about Route 2 east.

That is all true, but the players are a lot worse in NH. There are some 2/5 players who know what they are doing, but a lot of them make a lot of obvious mistakes.

Thanks for the feedback!

I actually live significantly closer to the CT rooms (52 minute drive vs 1 hour 45 minute), so I'll be heading there.

I decided in the end to play Foxwoods Friday night, then go back and play Mohegan Saturday night, so I'll be able to compare the $2/$5 at both. If it even runs at either place, I doubt I'll play $5/$10 unless it looks juicy

I can't wait for the Twin $5/$10 to return...

I'd figure I'd chime in here from a guy who's been to BBC six or 7 times this year, and a couple times late last year when it reopened.

I go on very sporadic days, so weekends or weekdays. I almost always get there when it opens, ~11:30am.

Every single time I've gone, I jump on every list that's available.. 5/10 has always been available with usually with just a few people on the list. I really just go to play PLO but will play any game really.. Anyway, every single time I've played (including this past Saturday) a 5/10 game has been called and ran. So in my experience, 5/10 is usually run and it's just one table. I was sat next to the game on Saturday, and I was monitoring the game and most players just seemed miserable lol. Not sure if the game is good or not but I think it's fair to say it runs often.

I did end up playing only in FW and MS and not visiting NH that weekend.

My verdict of both rooms, is that the differences now are just like the differences pre-competition (IE pre-Twin, MGM, and Encore opening).

Foxwoods is more fun, seems to have more action and better games.

Mohegan seems more stale, something about that room always rubbed me the wrong way, old location or new.

$5/$10 was running at FW Friday night but I didn't play it. I played the $5/$10 at Mohegan Saturday night and the must-move game was very good, lots of action, made some money off regs trying to bluff the unknown guy (me) on the river, then lost it back when they made the same moves on the river but now had the goods a few hours later. I didn't play the main game when I had to move to it (looked completely different from the must-move), so I played $2/$5 instead then.

I did notice dealers could keep their own tips now, which wasn't the case when I started at both casinos in 2000s (and still isn't the case at Twin). Does anyone remember what year it was they started being able to keep their own tips?

Do the NH room dealers keep their own tips, or are they pooled there like at Twin?

MS room was shut down for a long time in the early 2000's when I started playing in casinos. FW was pooling tips across the entire casino back then. When MS reopened their poker room, they were letting poker dealers keep their own tips which drew some of the more talented dealers away from FW, but the relatively small size of the MS room definitely kept them from drawing too many of the players away from FW. When FW poker dealers brought a union in one thing they successfully negotiated was keeping their own tips. I haven't been to any poker rooms since before the COVID shutdowns, so unless it has changed that should be the current situation.

Some NH rooms pool, some don't.

Mohegan poker dealers have kept there own since it opened in 1996. The room was closed from 2003-2008.

Back in 2011, this thread was started and you could vote for Wynn, Everett or Mohegan, Revere.

I voted for Wynn. I wonder how many people, including myself, would change
that vote knowing what we now know ?
