I saw a tweet once from an account called @streetsblogUSA that I found interesting, and after checking out their feed, I started following them. They write about nothing but traffic, parking, public trans, pedestrian safety, etc....and I'm shocked that I find the topic (that I've ignored my whole life) to be so fascinating.

Just some things off the top of my head (imagine if Boston did ANY of these!)

--Downtown Oslo has banned cars! Just a 1.5 SqKm area. The streets are for bicycles and pedestrians. They're not the first major city to do so...and so far, none of the cities who've done it have regretted it.

--Some big US cities like San Diego and others of similar size have stopped requiring developers to provide X number of parking spaces for new apartment buildings, if the building is near public transit. Now developer can put a bigger building on the same spot, and charge less per unit, making housing more affordable, etc.

--You know those photos of LA traffic, endless tail-lights for miles, seven lanes wide? Imagine that photo, captioned, "They just spent $1.5B to widen this road! Making a road wider doesn't reduce traffic, it *causes* more! Folks who used to avoid that traffic spot now give the new wider road a try, and you're back where you started, minus $1.5B. This happens EVERY time, but we keep doing it!"

The solution to all of these things: get people out of their cars. Walk, bicycle, bus, Uber/Lyft...anything but drive.

Really interesting stuff. Check it out.

I'm definitely a fan of increasing public transportation options and decreasing car ownership, particularly in metropolitan areas, but I wanted to point out their is quite a bit of debate as to whether Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft relieve congestion or add to it.

Not to state the obvious, but...

The key is the people in northern CT/southern MA.

Everyone that is already in the Boston area is most likely gonna be playing at Encore - everyone super close to FW/MS are most likely gonna still play there.

The difference in major traffic lies in where the middle area goes (along with which location can track vacation/recreational people - Encore will be better for that in the immediate future just because it’s “new”)

counter:
Roads are one of the few things govt builds, public uses more of it and then govt/public complains that too many people used it. Deemed failure.

Trains (and light rails) to nowhere - Govt builds them, no one uses them, must continue funding. Deemed success if even 1 person uses it.

Agree LA building regs wrt parking.

MGM Springfield effect? I would think some northern CT, mid MA has already gone there if they are not happy with FW/MS/TR. Does Encore lure them away from there?

Meh, maybe.

IMO, distance players a much bigger role in person’s home casino choice than anything else. Someone who lives 15 minutes from MS/FW is almost definitely not gonna be a reg at encore.

As distance becomes closer between current CT casino and new X casino, then “amenities” come more into play (whether you want to categorize amenities as hotels, rakeback, free parking, night life, toughness of games,
etc etc).

I personally live like 3 miles from encore lol. So I personally wouldn’t care if the place was a dump. If they are dealing poker, I’m locking up a seat New England General Discussion - Poker Room List in OP

That is exactly that problem for FX/MS - almost no one lives 15 mins away.

Haha, yes! Those were fun. Great opportunity to freeroll into live tourneys when I was just starting getting into poker lol.

Hope all is well New England General Discussion - Poker Room List in OP

I’m tentatively planning a mini-vacation to Mohegan in May before I probably will just play at Encore primarily

The game has recently changed in three ways:

$1 chips don't play for less than $5 (all in for $354 is only $350, can't raise to $16)

There is now a $5 bring-in

For purposes of calculating pot the small+big = $5 (before they would equal $6). So if UTG pots it is $15 to call. If UTG limps for $5, UTG+1 pots for $20 to call and so on. Straddle is still $5.

Hearing there are going to be high hands every day in April and that Omaha will be part of the Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday high hands (must flop it, either $500 for one hour or $1500 for two hours)

Also there will now be two Omaha bad beats. A progressive which starts at $10k, increases $1k every Friday and has a straight flush minimum qualifier (40% losing hand, 20% winning hand, 40% split by all other players dealt in). The other bad beat is always $1k (70% losing hand, 30% winning hand) and has a qualifier of any quads (must be pocket pair).

That last one is kinda sick if you ask me. Not uncommon to have $2-5k in front of a few players. Lose KKKK to AAAA for $5k and get a $700 promo while the guy stacking your $5k gets another $300 for the beat! New England General Discussion - Poker Room List in OP

I don't get it. I'm curious why would they make a change like this? Why not just make it a $5/5 PLO - full blown degen game, instead of keeping it at $1/3 and make it all $5 min bets

Couldn't say. Maybe it's marketing? Casual min-buy players see 1-3 as "cheaper" than $5-5? New England General Discussion - Poker Room List in OP

Well, there were over 100 people on the wait list for various games at Chasers yesterday (Sunday) at about 1 PM.

Plenty of games but you need to get there early to get a seat. Any by early, I mean before noon.

$300 HH every 30 minutes. Typical Sunday based on what I've heard. I rarely play Sundays so it's a second hand account.

Chasers is especially crowded on Sundays, with huge wait lists. Yesterday was a pretty typical Sunday.
