Got another year don't we?

Yup... One year before the nuclear bomb known as Encore Boston is dropped on the NH poker scene. RIP Nh poker scene we hardly knew yee

Time will tell of course, but I don't think the Encore will lead to NH poker's demise. It may change and some rooms may not make it, but I can see myself still hitting the NH scene. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I think Foxwoods and Mohegan will take a bigger hit because Encore is a complete casino that competes directly with them.

Either way, as a player, I like the competition.

As a tournament player, the NH cardrooms will probably still appeal to me. They offer better tournament structures and at lower buy-ins than the CT casinos.
If Encore starts offering a $90, 30k stack, 30 minute blind tournament, sure, I’ll just go there. But they probably won’t.

I live north of Boston so I'll likely choose the NH rooms for daytime play and go to Everett if playing later in the evening when traffic isn't such an issue.

I can't imagine how bad traffic will be in that area when Encore opens.

Traffic is already insane now. It’s gonna be absurd.

Then again, for people already living in Boston who are driving to NH/twin rivers, the drive to the nearest casino will be much quicker!

We should expect to pay for parking at Encore as well. No such thing as free parking in Boston.

Woof. You’re most likely right

Doubt there is any meaningful difference in traffic. Its a 24/hr a day place with even flow traffic. Take Foxwoods or any NE casino....when are you ever more than the 3rd person waiting at a traffic light on the roads approaching it? Even when there are concerts people show up much more staggered and depart one bankroll at a time.

The contrasting argument is that those roads near Foxwoods aren’t already busy, and would have zero traffic if not for Foxwoods being there.

In the Everett area, there are almost always 3+ cars waiting at traffic lights. Stop and go traffic during commuting hours. The Everett-Somerville-Charlestown rotary is total chaos from 5-7 pm. And this is before the casino has opened.

I hope you’re right, but I think you’re wrong. We will see I suppose

Had this been the old days before the Big Dig, the Everett casino would've been an utter nightmare traffic-wise nearly all the time. Nowadays it probably won't be perfectly smooth sailing but count me among those who thinks it'll be far better than a snarl, except maybe for 4-6pm on weekdays.

As for the impact of the room, I originally figured it would decimate any and all places in New England; but after frequenting Twin and Chasers, I think they can survive. Not thrive like they are now, but stay alive and do decently based on clientele who simply don't care about table selection and the best games and just want to play poker. As for Mohegan and Foxwoods, those I can't see staying viable.

90 tables? Wowee.

How big are the biggest rooms in America? I've never been in a room with more than 30 tables (and extras set up temporarily to host regional tourneys.)

Looks like Poker Atlas was a one day thing. Don't see it today. Maybe a test.

I agree with both on traffic. Not a nightmare, but will impact already bad rush hour pockets.

Would like to see the Chasers PLO survive.
We'll see.
Everett will capture higher stakes, no doubt.

Commerce has 200+. The Bike and Hawaiian Gardens are 130+. Foxwoods is 100+.

Thanks.

I think a casino has insignificant impact on traffic, but I'm not a traffic engineer.

To be clear, I don't want to drive into that part of Everett now because of the traffic. So even if the casino has minimal impact, I'd still rather the 30 minute drive north compared to the hour or more south.

Sure I’ll probably need some training to freshen up on my table games dealing, especially craps and Roulette!

I hope Encore is prepared and has taken appropriate action to survive in a market that has Borgata North in it.

It won't decimate them, but the days of PLO at Chasers will be over. You'll see more 1-2 NLH and less of everything else. Hampton may just go belly up. Their cash game numbers are tiny now as it is. As for Twin, the place is such a dump I can't imagine it's going to go unaffected.

And let's remember there's no charity skim at Wynn. You'll get real comps, and a much lower rake. And when you beaten up at PLO, you have a blackjack table steps away that will let you bet whatever the @#$# you want.

And whoever said they'd rather drive from the boston area up to Salem NH on a friday than go to Everett is insane. 93N is stop and go all the way up on most fridays.

Hopefully the presence of full blown legalized gaming will increase the local player pool and all establishments thrive.

I don't usually take 93, I'm closer to 114 and ride that to 495.

Agreed that Hampton’s cash games seem to be slowing down, but they still draw good tourney numbers. You think that will be enough to keep them going?
