Probably that, with Tony Mazz mixed in saying you can’t enjoy the Red Sox current success because they may not be good in 2037.

I took a trip home last month. My older relatives, who still think of me as the passionate sports fan I was when I was younger (and as an expert, because of my sports book career), would ask me in a panic, "What are Patriots gonna DO?", in a tone that would indicate the ship was going down.

I told them that they're the favorites in Las Vegas to win the Super Bowl this year, by a wide margin. That they should be excited for this season, not dire.

They were stunned.

I wondered why they unanimously felt that way. I thought it was because they were so spoiled, they ALWAYS act like the sky is falling following a loss, and right now, we're "following a loss".

I had not considered the impact of the Fox News Of Local Sports Radio.

Made my inaugural visit to Chasers today. I was prepared for a bustling room, but not as bustling as this was. I got there at 1:30 and the room was 2/3 full and left at 5 and there was maybe one table or two unoccupied tables. Personally, I'd love to see one table in each column removed so you're not quite as on top of each other, but I can understand them wanting to cram in what they can fit. Action also was as advertised, and not just at $2/$5. At the two $1/$2 tables I played at, there were a few tight passive players but at least half the table in both cases was either loose passive or LAGgy.

Floor, dealers and chip runners seemed to up to the task, but the climate control was wacky, such that one corner of the room (near the bar) was humid and hot, while the opposite corner was comfortable. I'm not sure if that was a one time thing though.

So yeah, it's easy to tell why this is the room in town. I wish BBC hadn't lost so much of its player pool to Chasers though, since I do like the dedicated poker room at BBC and not having to deal with route 93 on my way back to Mass.

Where exactly did I say myself that I've never set foot in Chasers? Feel free to quote.

The bolded is due to the Red Sox always screwing things up 1919-2003.

Boston area teams have won boatloads of titles since then though, so the “woe is me” thinking is really kind of silly.

It definitely is. But for those over 40 I think it's gotten ingrained into the DNA.

Thankfully, even though I'm well over 40, I'm not originally from NE, so my DNA is free from that attitude. Mine is more fueled by the Pats. I always expect to win.

Speaking of sports.... can we speculate on all the professional athletes we'll spot in the Wynn poker room? I've played limit down at FW with Max(Cedric), but I'm sure when they don't have to drive to FW more will be playing.

An speaking of the Wynn, I'm assuming when they designed it, there was no sports book. But now that the supreme court decision came down, those plans have got to have changed right?

Aw, I was there Friday and Saturday but not yesterday. PLO is exploding there. About a year ago it was difficult to get one PLO table going at Hampton, without persuading the floor.

Friday night at chasers they had FOUR PLO games going and only 2-3 2/5NL games. Very surprising to me!

I'm sure they'll find room for a sports book.

I've played with Cedric and James Woods at FW and that's all I can recall for famous people.

The Supreme Court decesiom reversed the federal ban on sports betting. I don’t believe Massachusetts has written legislation to legalize sports betting.

Rhode Island has legalized in person sports betting, scheduled to start October 2018

Massachusetts has put off any legislation on sports betting until at least 2019

Russell Westbrook always makes it a point to stop in our room (midwest) when he's in town. Very quiet guy, believe it or not. Headphones on, just wants to play cards and be left alone (exactly how I would feel in his shoes).

Adrian Peterson used to be a regular here, till his head coach ordered him to stop....but that coach got fired, and he would return from time to time. I never got to deal to him, because I run so bad--he'd tip $20-30 for a SMALL pot. He threw those $10 chips we use in our biggest game like they were change he found in his couch cushions.

My buddy was working the floor one night, during the offseason after AP's Rookie Of The Year season. AP was ready to leave, and he asked my buddy, "Can you walk me to my car? If I try to walk out of here by myself, I'll get mobbed, and never make it to the door. If I'm talking with someone as I walk, it's much easier." My fanboi buddy was thrilled. The plan worked like a charm, and they made it through the gauntlet.

When they arrived at his car, AP asked him, "Wanna see something cool?" He popped his trunk, and showed my friend his brand new Rookie of the Year trophy.

"You ride around with that thing in your trunk?"

Yup.

"Why???"

"For moments like this. Pretty cool, right?"

"ABSOLUTELY!!!!"

My friend now possesses a photograph of himself standing next to the NFL ROY trophy in the trunk of a car.

You know, I've told trophy story 100 times, but it just now dawned on me: AP probably asked for the escort just so he could show the trophy to somebody.

In other news: Puck's FB thread now has posts from the guy who installed the surveillance equipment, which are screenshots of the lawsuit he has filed to try to get paid for his work and very expensive equipment. This guy says he has spoken to the landlord personally, and been told that Puck hasn't paid him, either.

This descent into madness isn't fun any more.

That's just sad, man. Refusing to pay employees or contractors is a low blow. Refusing to pay a landlord, slightly less so, but still bad.

It tells you a lot about what he planned to do if Cheers didn't strike gold right away. Just let the whole thing burn to the ground at everyone else's expense. No wonder he was so willing to take such big risks.

Almost as likely: he never considered that the place WOULDN'T strike gold.

Someone found the public records of all his bankruptcy filings, so this doesn't appear to be a new strategy for him and his family.

From his constant self-promotion here in the lead-up to the opening of Cheers, one might get this impression.

I could really see it going either way. The repeated bankruptcy filings say a lot, though. He's quite a gambler from the look of things. Probably would've been worlds better for the NH poker scene if he'd simply taken all that investment money and played PLO with it.

James Woods posted on 2+2 briefly iirc.

I never knew James Woods was a 2+2'er.

Against All Odds was on the other day. I'd never seen it. I marveled at how young he and Jeff Bridges were--and how awful, painfully awful, this movie was.

(To be clear, this was not the fault of either of those guys. They did their jobs--with what they had to work with.)

I didn’t realize James Woods was still considered a celebrity. I mean, who hasn’t played poker with him at Foxwoods?
