Well I would say MGM kicked Penn's ass.

Didn't hear anything specifically about a poker room in the MGM presentation, but tail end of his speech got cut off by audio from the video being shown. Didn't see one in the virtual walk through of the casino on screen, but may have just been overlooked as I can't imagine that they wouldn't have one.

From the live chat window:
Quote:
Robert Rizzuto: Pokerfan, I don't remember seeing a poker room mentioned specifically, although if MGM's other casinos have them, they could potentially incorporate one in this plan as well.

The proposal I read years ago was to keep charity gaming and add slots.

Absolutely maddening - if you're going to open a "casino" to compete with Mass the above ain't gonna cut it. If they spend $450 mil on a casino and keep charity poker they are doing it wrong.

No way the casino is gonna give up 40% of their poker rooms revenue to charity. Ain't gonna happen. Same goes for table games.

100% agree.

Search 'millennium+gaming+rockingham+park'. From slides

Our Model—What it is….
$450 million capital investment
Phase I facility of 3,000 video lottery terminals (VLT’s); Phase II facility of 5,000 video lottery terminals
Enhanced live horseracing and charity table games
Based on The Meadows racino

I think table games strategy was to win govt approval. Perhaps once place is up and running and successful, table games and real poker will follow.

Or I hope a new plan emerges.

I think they should create a smaller Mohegan Sun like facility.

Some legislators are crazy and proposed state slot parlor a. Yuck!

I believe the proposals to the govt are just for slots. The casino doesn't have much choice. It's up to the govt to allow whatever gaming it wants. I really do hope they get some changes to the laws to allow real poker and table games. With the new govt, maybe there is more desire to do something. Given the barriers in the legislature, expanding the proposals may not fly.

With MA getting full blown casinos, perhaps this will motivate NH to have table games and poker.

I got in contact with a few people today at MGM. They are saying they are sure there will be a poker room. If you noticed, they did not mention any specifics about gaming other than 89,000 sq. ft. of space.

So for an update on the Western MA license competition, Holyoke's 22 y/o boy mayor has now once again reversed course and is now against casinos once again.
Also, just a few minutes ago, WWLP is now reporting that Hard Rock is pursuing a site in West Springfield. More details on that to be released soon.

The ball is rolling in NH

http://www.eagletribune.com/newhamps...aming-proposal

Read another story yesterday saying they could be up and running by the end of 2013 at Rockingham. Can't find it now though. They are def gonna beat MA, no doubt about it. Last story I read had Crosby(MA Gaming Commish) saying 2017 at the earliest.

Stopped in at Seabrook the other day, to say hello to old friends. The power was out when we arrived. It was very early afternoon, there was one BJ game going in the pit, thanks to the miner's hat worn by the dealer! You didn't know what your cards were until HE looked at them, shining his light on them!

I turned to my friend and said, "Wow. If they had a REAL Gaming Commission around here, they'd NEVER stand for this! You think the camera can see what's going on here in the dark???"

My friend replied, "If they had a real Gaming Commission, the generators would work!"

No surprises there. It looks like Penn, & MGM in Springfield and Mohegan in Palmer will be competing for the Western Mass slot.

It will be interesting to see if Wynn gets an application in to complete with Caesars for the Boston license before the 1/15 deadline.

WBZ: Resort Casinos A Long Way Off In Mass.
http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/01/0...y-off-in-mass/
Quote:
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has said it will not issue the first resort casino licenses until February 2014 and those resorts could take an additional three years to build. The State’s Casino Chairman, Steve Crosby, does not apologize for the multi-year process.

“The legislature said job one was integrity, integrity of the process, so we will not compromise integrity for speed,” he says.
Quote:
“By the time Massachusetts gets into the ballgame there are going to be many, many more competitors around them, so the revenue that will actually come into the state will be much smaller.”

And he may be right. A new casino opened in Oxford, Maine last June, just two years after voters approved. And just like Twin River Casino in Rhode Island, it too has expansion plans. New Hampshire is also considering casino gambling at Rockingham Park just across the Massachusetts border.

Clyde Barrow put it this way. “I think Massachusetts remains an attractive market but the longer we wait, the less attractive it becomes, which means fewer and lower quality proposals.”

Well, no state has ever legalized casinos and developed state gaming commissions, rules and regulations before, right?
No, wait.... has this wheel has already been invented?....

(One estimate yesterday was that every month of delay is costing the state >$20 million, or $250 million/year.. But it's not like we're in some sort of budget deficit, is it?)

THREE YEARS????
Quote:

Of course, two of those three years will be haggling with the town they build in for all the special permissions and concessions they will need. It doesn't actually take three years to build a resort.

OK, NH, let us gogogogo...
