Massachusetts has made it clear that they're not interested in governing this industry the way all the other, dumb states do. They're smarter than everybody, and they're out to reinvent the wheel, rather than just copy another state's gaming regs.

My point is: ANYTHING is possible, and NOTHING would surprise me. They might forget to address this, and the rooms can charge whatever they like (and if they're only competition is NH's $7/hand rake, then what do you THINK they'll charge?). Or the state may dictate a max rake so low, that no casino will find it worthwhile to have a poker room. Or anything else you can dream up, I couldn't call your wildest dream "unlikely".
Yep, totally agree. Having lived in 5 states I have noticed the reinventing syndrome; some good and but others not so good. I sure hope they will be reasonable but I won't hold my breath especially when it comes to revenue.

Thx

Isn't hunting and fishing a "gaming" activity?? I guess it is like some tribes are allowed to club seals or take wales as it was part of their tribal tradition. Perhaps the state is trying to restrict something in this area.

Everyday Massachusetts doesn't open its casinos is money, unrecoverable, lost to them. Patrons die, move away, or quit the game for other reasons. If I were the governor, I'd come up with temporary gaming rules and regs, grant temporary licenses to the companies seeking them on the condition they set up temporary (think the tent that was Casino Arizona in Scottsdale) casinos and get the game going.

While I would like that, a big selling point of casinos has been that they won't be simple gaming only facilities and would provide other benefits to the city/town. A big tent won't do any of that and likely would not draw any money from outside the local communities.

There was some talk about building the casinos out first and letting them open while the hotels and amenities were still under construction. They shot it right down -- they're not going to let it happen.

congats to the 2012 champ
after the nasty beat he took
he stayed composed and patiently and surgically gutted his final two opponents and gutted out a marathon win

U know what i I liked the most was he showed class. After the river card fell he ignored his cronies that stormed the floor and said GG to Sylvia. I like to see class at the table. Too much disrespect lately IMO.

agreed my man
and he took that gut shot river loss with nerves of steel
he took a few hands off even though he limped and stabbed at a few pots gathered himself but kept composed sucked down a red bull gnawed on some beef jerky and pressed on
i thought all three were pretty classy to the end altough the champ stood above and beyond
plus he takes POY and helmuth gets to sulk

It was great to watch. Sylvia played way too slow which had me rooting against him despite being from MA, but I think both played incredibly well minus a few mistakes each. Good thing I don't have to work today as I actually watched it from about midnight on.
This also has me motivated to head down right now for some action!!

Yup, it was nice to see. I understand how happy the winner must be yet look beyond that to congratulate their opponent. Very classy.

Question 1 passed in RI. Table games to follow as soon as Jan 1st. Wonder if they'll include poker in this

That'll eat into FW and MS revenue a bit, but not much I wouldn't think.

Hmmm much closer to MA residents. We'll see. Think if they do everything correctly regarding a poker room, if they do open one that is, they could def take away lots of business

Yeah but the casinos aren't going to lose much revenue by losing poker players. And I don't think too many people will go to Twin River instead of FW/MS to play table games. TR is not a resort.

That's what it will eventually turn into tho. I remember first time I step foot into Turning Stone it the same exact thing, far from being a resort. Look at the place now

Somebody explain how Twin River isn't making tons of money with slots?
They needed slots to survive as a race track, then they needed to stop the racing to survive, now they need table games to survive....
I'm all for casino gaming, but somethings fishy at that place.

Blame the State for taking 67cents of every dollar profited?
This is why people complain that their promos suck, they give nothing in points blah blah blah. Well, the casino is making 33 cents of every buck. How can they be able to give?
