Twin River staff has made improvements in the past few months.. The dealers are gonna have to keep their own to make them really give a fk tho

Give it time. I can see no scenario where Twin's poker room is still up and running within a year of Wynn opening. Heck, maybe 6 months even.

You’re underestimating one major factor. Twin River is 18+, and is located between two pretty substantial college cities (Providence and Worcester). I have played at Twin River 8-10 times over the past few months and would venture to guess that I played with a handful of kids between the ages of 18 and 20 every time that I was there.

Yeah, Twin River poker room isn't going away anytime soon. The nearest alternatives are an hour away so you'll always have a core base. It isn't as if they are trying to sustain a 70-table room. They should own their 12-15 table niche in the Providence market with no other local competition between all the colleges and the variety of degens from Silver Lake, Federal Hill, and Pawtucket.

i'm not familiar with Poker Atlas--but how is a prop player different from a different kind of player?

A typical night consists of 1 game running. The game running is a game filled with dealers who have nothing else to do.

So in other words once Wynn opens TW will be a haven of 18-20 year olds, plus the underbelly of New England? I'm all for a +EV situation, but not if it will make loathe every second at the table and pray I don't get shot or stabbed on the way to my car. Sounds like good times will be in store!

You forgot Central Falls.

Also, will their Tiverton casino have poker? That'll bring in the riffraff from Fall River, Brockton & New Bedford.

I definitely wouldn't mind playing at TW if I was guaranteed a table of 18-20 yr olds who think they're Tom Dwan.

Last time I was there I had to wait 2+ hours for a table, which I guess is what it is, and I'd be fine with that if the people running the room, you know, knew how to run the room. Time is money!

Their only upside is they have a Video Black Jack machine! Fun stuff.

I haven't been there in a while, but the last couple of times I went, waits weren't nearly as long as before.

I don't think prop dealers are popping in and out of MTTs.

As a parent of two boys not very far from that age, neither they nor any of their friends give two sharts about poker, and I think that's the norm, not the exception. To them, it might as well be bridge. Sure - maybe some college kids will still fall into it, but 18-20 year olds were 12-14 when Black Friday happened, and 4-6 years old when Moneymaker won. It's not even on the radar for most of them.

Yup, I'm the mom of an almost 20 year old son and he couldn't care less about poker. *sob* He does like to tease me though..."Mom, how was the flop, donkey, fish, jam?" Grrrr That flop donkey fish jam just paid for his new lap top!

For the cherry on top, not only does my son not give a heck about poker, he also couldn't care less about baseball! When he was ten years old he sat me down to tell me that he wouldn't be playing little league anymore because he'd done it for a few years and I was the only one who enjoyed it. Fine!

You guys keep saying that like it's a bad thing. I'm asking how "A game filled with dealers" is different from, say, a game filled with shoe salesmen. And is this Poker Atlas telling you that >1 game is running?

Results in no game selection. And Idk about you, I'd rather play with shoe salesmen than someone who deals poker.

So … Poker Atlas says there's not a single cash game running at Cheers, and no one even on a list. Can anyone speak to the accuracy of that? Is anyone even sitting in the MTTs?

"Last updated: about 5 hours ago" - they were closed 5 hours ago, so 0 for everything. Why it hasn't been updated since?

It's accurate. I stopped by Cheers today to check it out. Really nice place, but not a single cash game going. The early tournament ( 1:30 ? ) was cancelled.

Granted it's a Tuesday afternoon but there are games going on at other locales.

It might take some time for Cheers to get going. We might also have reached saturation in the local market.

Time will tell.....

Of course a game filled with dealers is different than a game filled with shoe salesmen. Dealers spend way more time watching the action unfold so one would think they're learning something.

A more applicable analogy might be playing with a table full of dealers is like playing with a table full of poker room massage girls?

I think the real issue is that people travel a decent distance to get to a poker room and they rely on Poker Atlas to decide which room would best fit their needs. Inflating those numbers doesn't help.

Is filling seats with poker dealers, in fact, inflating their numbers? I'd go with yes, because they aren't the typical fishponent who is then going to hit the cash games where they'd find me waiting.

Just my .02.

I know it's Tuesday afternoon, but every other room within reasonable driving distance has cash tables running (2 at BBCC, 3 at Manchester, 7 at Chasers) and lists for everything.

Man, that's rough. I know I've talked some **** to Puck here, but I'm mostly trying to level productive criticism. More competition is better, IMO, and I would love to have multiple successful rooms running near each other. But I think he did miss the boat when he opened so long after another poker room that already has a consistent player base, with better location and lower rake.

It's kinda reminding me of The River. They may have had a good shot if they had opened before BBCC, but they missed the opportunity, and they insist on continuing that stupid "Grinder's Challenge" promotion that I have personally warned the managers about on two separate occasions. And BBCC has the better location.

Cheers is having a 3-day tournament this weekend. Hopefully they get a nice turnout for that.

I’m fairly certain they are doing any promotions yet in terms of high hand and BBJ because I think it takes a month or so before you can do those types of promos. I’m assuming those will draw some people to the room and some of the comps once they get those up and running.

As someone has already mentioned, the 3 day thing is a bad idea all around imo. Seriously, who is going to do that? Maybe after you get some footing and can advertise a big weekend, but now seems sub-optimal.

That being said, I also wish Puck the best and hopefully it just takes some time to get a foothold. The reviews have been good, but opening late in Jan and behind Cheers is going to take some time to catch up on.

Well, I can't speak for all dealers, but take from a guy who's been doing this almost 20 years now: I'm WAY too busy keeping up with the action (counting the pot, making sure all bets are right, making sure these attention-addled players act in turn, etc) to sit there and try to put people on hands.

Poker dealers are notorious for being fish. This joke is older than me:

Q: What do the poker games in heaven look like?

Spoiler:
A: Nine white shirts, and an empty chair!
