I played at Cheers yesterday for about 8 hours.

I think this is definitely going to be a good room. They had a pretty good crowd and were even able to get off some tournaments.

The dealers were very good overall. One dealer was a bit on the slower side dealing, but even he seemed to know what he was doing. All of the other dealers dealt at a very good pace and seemed to fully know what they were doing.

The staff was very friendly and very receptive to customer feedback. For instance, I overheard some of the players offer some constructive criticism and the staff seemed to really listen and really appreciate the feedback instead of being upset by it.

Waitstaff seemed to not be around much and I heard some players mentioning that, but it was just day one and I’m sure they will work out the kinks. The food was good.

The room itself is very nice. Very spacious. Plenty of room to have lots of cash games, MTTs, and table games going. Bar area looks very nice too. Even the bathrooms look good — some players joked they no longer missed the bathrooms at Rockingham anymore. (My God those were gross.)

Overall though, a very smooth day one and I think in a month or so that this place is going to be packed and really running well.

We have a winner!!!

I vote to keep the rake competitive at 5+1 and to offset this maybe promote a 6+1 game as the "Action Game - No Nits Allowed!"

I am only half-joking.

I stopped in day 1 of Cheers and this is just my personal takeaway. I just played cash game. I'm giving an honest early review, which I'm being overly critical. I have played all over US and overseas, I suck, but I've traveled some with poker..lol

Action: Was pretty good for 2/4 lots of regs, I've played with all over, some new faces. Eventually as in any place, action dried up and it got stale, so I left.

Room: Huge, plenty of space. Might be too big 31 tables (with 6 more on standby) based on other rooms in NH capacity and how often they are full. Definitly more tournament geared feel.

Heard Cheers has 2 tables to live stream on based on earlier posts, would've loved to seen a platform table area to showcase it.(Maybe you can in future idea...just trying to help. Cant even imagine how much money all that costs to build these out, insane amount, for charity or not).

Would like to see Tournaments moved away from Cash Games, plenty of empty tables to move to different corners of Room. Separate Cash Games (1/2 from 2/4 and PLO as well, use the space. Dont put all in same area. Have Buffer area unless place is full, but still put Tournaments dar away from cash.

Lighting: no issues, plenty of it

Cards: Big Faces, so no issues there. Some people kept mentioning cards being marked or had stuff on them.

Tables: They look nice esthetically, if you like the wood style. I think those are more home game oriented but that is just my opinion. I like the tables with foot rest rail. I think bigger longer tables the better for space, 9 handed. No cup holders in rail I prefer but oh well, slide the holders on style. The rails were not held down amd some were uneven. I think this can be easily fixed, just a punch list to touch up. Use tables that are fully ready to go. Nobody wants to play air hockey and have to block cards from Shooting under rail, but it isnt the end of the world either. Felt was supertight, no give or bounce...hopefully in time losenes up a little. They had USB, a must nowadays with tpdays power sucking electronics but I didnt test out.

WIFI: FREE , worked, no issues

TVs: wow, cant complain... there's a gazillion.

Chips: Decent in the fact the faces arent slippery so you can stack. Standard plastic type chips. Racks were easy to fit chips. Would love to have seen the paulsen style chips (that is the type foxwoods and most other casinos use) or clay chips but I understand the cost for those is massive!

Seating: Not good in my opinion. The butt cushion area is the key for playing long hours. This for me was a big letdown, thought they wouldve had the borgatta chairs. I like adjustable but dont care if they arent. 6" thick, high density foam seating cushion is the size that would hold better over time...but cost i'm sure a lot. I think this was the biggest misstep they have taken overall. They reminded me of the old Manchester seats(the green ones, but they are black). People want to be comfortable. This was another reason i left after a few hours. It wont deter me from playing there again, just was disappointed. Not that my opinion really matters.

Staff: Super Friendly and accommadating

Wait staff: were sporadic, on hustling or even coming around, not super vocal. Beers were a little pricey for NH ($5.18 for a Budlight bottle..odd amount). Didnt get any food so can comment. I get It was 1st day, but they need to step it up. Stop assigning tables and just have whomever is in area get you a drink.

Table games: seem nice, was well seaparated from poker which was great. People seemed happy.

Bathroom: Spacious, plenty of room. Should get the hand dryers instead of brow paper towel mess.

Parking: plenty, nice lot

My takeaway is it is a very nice room. Is it perfect, no. Nowhere really is. As a poker player we will always complain about something. Go in and make up your own mind, if it is for you and your game or not. If the state ever goes from $4-->$10 it might be a great venue. Too early to tell.

I want all the places in NH to succeed. Some places wait too long to make corrections and turnoff players. People tend to go wherever the action is. It isnt about loyalty.

$5.18 for a bud light in NH? Which translates to $6 for a bud light with an $.82 tip? I don't know, man...

yes that was what it was. For NH that is high. will I still pay it if I want to drink, of course. Budlight is cheap usually too, most NH places $4 for bottle.

I also played first night at Cheers. Didn't really feel like playing cards last night, but I wanted to check the room out so I stopped by.

Here's my review.

Room: The space is huge and reminds me of a California card room. A little too bright. The setup of the room is strange to me. If I was going to open a room in that space I would have an elevated area similar to Mohegan to break it up a little. I agree with the other review, this is a tournament room. If Cheers can get big turnouts for tournaments they have the best space for it.

Tables: Felt too tight, not enough padding. If you have no finger nails it's tough to pick up cards. I think the mark was missed on the table design. No cub holders I like.

Chairs: Garbage. Too low and not enough padding. I don't care about having an adjustable seat, but I do care about having a seat that's a proper height. If you are 6'+ you're not going to last long hours in those chairs.

Cards: Big face cards suck, but I understand why rooms use them. The card quality is nice.

Chips: Standard plastic. I could tell from seeing them in the picture they were almost identical to the chips at the Falls and they are. There are no $100 chips.

ATM: No ATM. I don't get how you can open a room without an ATM. They say it's "on the way" so this issue will be corrected shortly.

Staff: Everyone was nice and friendly. Waitstaff far exceeds that of Chasers, very attentive. (Side note: Has anyone noticed how absolutely dreadful Chasers waitstaff is? Absolutely terrible.) Some of the dealers were subpar, but they will get better with time.

Action: Same faces in a different place. Maniac squad at my 2/4NL game and I helped contribute to the lunacy.

TVs: Tons of tvs, but yet there wasn't a single basketball game on any of them and a lot of them were turned off. Why have so many tvs if you're not going to use them.

Rake: If you're going to take a +1 for the rake it seems quite illegal to not offer a high hand or bad beat payout. I was told by the dealers they were taking the $1 to fund the payout for bad beat or high hand or whatever the room is running, but that there was no high hand or bad beat available the first night. WTF is that all about.

Random Thought: How come out of all these Poker Rooms & Casinos in NH, not a single one looks like a room you would find in a Casino? Most of the rooms have an industrial feel or a bar feel.

I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but overall I was expecting more.

Recommendations
  • Remove a row of tables and space them out so people can walk in between them. I noticed that people couldn't walk in the space between the first and second row where both tables were used.
  • Change the straddle to $10 at 2/4
  • Dim the lights slightly
  • If you're going to have excessive TVs, turn them on and use them
  • burn every chair you bought and buy new ones
  • tint the front windows

I went to Cheers yesterday and overall it was a great experience but the room itself was underwhelming in my opinion compared to what I anticipated.

The pros:

- Great waitstaff considering it was the first day. All were eager to help and take food and drink orders.

- The tables are not too close together so plenty of room.

- Plenty of parking.

The cons:

- The room itself does not set itself apart from other NH rooms. It's just the biggest room. There's nothing wrong with that but it certainly doesn't have a casino or Vegas feel. Just a big room that is nice and spacious.

- The chairs are terrible and need to go. This room was advertised to be some extravagant room and they open with those chairs? They're the same chairs that Manchester just got rid of. Why go cheap on player comfort?

- Not sure what is going on with the rake situation but hopefully they will be competitive with other rooms now and in the future.

Overall I can't say for sure that I will be back to this room for cash but will definitely be keeping an eye on the tournaments. I had a great experience yesterday but I choose where to play based on the play and the overall comfort and feel of a room. The fact that this looks like any other room in NH and the lousy uncomfortable chairs will keep me from returning personally just because of the other options that are closer for me.

All this being said I think Cheers will do great and by NH standards it is a great room since it's at least clean and brand new.

As for the NH poker community as a whole it's clearly booming but I wonder how much wealth there is to go around. Never mind when the Wynn opens. Would love to see a room in NH with more of a casino feel. All of them feel like going into a club where everyone knows each other. Although the social aspect of poker is great I'm not there to socialize and make friends and send money back and forth to the same people. I'm there to make a profit. Greet me at the door, help me get seated, serve good food and drinks in a nice, comfortable atmosphere and I'm happy. You don't need to memorize my name and I couldn't care less about the high hands. Keep the high hand money in the pot.

it's ok,, no hiding here. was just trying to give feedback.....need to do same for other rooms as well. We want all of them to succeed. Since the room is brand-new we don't want to see them wait to make the changes. Hey I had fun time with you. Pretty easy when I ran like a lockbox that day

Thought sure I posted this story, but can't find it in a search, guess I need to type it again:

Went to Rockingham one night when the poker was upstairs. While waiting for a seat, I walked over to the bar. It was a beautiful, enormous bar, looked like oak, had about 30-40 stools, and they were all empty. Just a single bartender there, doing absolutely nothing.

YTF: You look like the lonliest bartender in the world!

BARTENDER: (not amused) What can I get you?

YTF: Miller Lite, please.

BARTENDER: (cracks it open) That's $9, please.

YTF: (eyes pop out) No WONDER you're the lonliest bartender in the world!

BARTENDER: ("yeah i know" face)

(I only played at Rockingham 2-3 times. It was the worst cardroom Ive ever seen. I don't need to list why for you guys. But after the last time, I decided, "I don't need to play poker THAT BAD that I need to put up with this stuff. I feel bad for the folks who do.")

Bugsyyy how was the turnout for the $250 tourney?

If I could give a recommendation to all the poker rooms. You should post results on your websites so we can see how many entries your tournaments are getting. I don't play tournaments much, but I would play a $250 if the room was drawing in a good size crowd.

What's the best room for tournament turnout? From the outside looking in, it appears that Hampton Falls gets a decent turnout for their big tournaments.

You're probably right. I have a habit of misremembering details in some of my stories. I once posted a bad-beat story in the Sports Betting forum, and fact checkers there noted that the game I described never happened (I could've SWORE it was a Bal@Det game that ended 7-4, but no such game played out that year, nor any year close to that, nor any SCORE close to that).

How much did Rock charge for a beer? I remember another time playing there, I ordered a hot dog and Pepsi, and immediately regretted that I had not checked the price beforehand.

I always felt bad for NBC News anchor Brian Williams, demoted for lying about taking fire while aboard a helicopter in a war zone, when it was a different helicopter in his group that was under fire. He said he didn't lie on purpose, he just got the details wrong. I was the only person in America who bought that explanation, because sadly, I do that all the time--looks like I just did it again.
