^^ this type of behavior indicates inexperienced players IME, so while annoying, I want these kind of players at my table

To me, it indicates inexperienced STAFF, who think of Foxwoods as a role model.

Not just BB, but every card room in New England.

It has been a few years since I worked or played in a NH card room, so things may have changed for the better--but I doubt it. Feel free to correct me if what you describe is no longer SOP there.

^ I've been playing in NH since the days of holiday inn, stopped for a while but came back when NL was introduced. The players have gotten much better irt "table etiquette" but there's still a lot of players that seem to just not know what's ok and not ok to be said during a hand (whether they in it or not). It's annoying, but at the same time You can get a lot of free info about a player through this kind of table talk IMO.

I made my first trip to Boston Billiards today, happy to be able to go back to Nashua for the first time in eons.

The parking lot was jammed when I arrived at 12:30PM, so I figured I'd be walking into a buzzing room. But they had just one 1-2 table running and a list for another. Then I realized the parking lot situation was likely due to the gym in the same plaza, and New Year's resolutions.

I put my name on the 1-2 list, plus started a 2-4 list. The 1-2 table was called about 10 minutes later. They had a third 1-2 table running by 1:30pm. But then they ran into issues because apparently 3 dealers couldn't make their shifts. The 1-2 list grew to 16 people and the 2-5 list finally to 9, before reinforcements arrived by 3pm. Kudos for the room to summon other dealers.

The pits were busy, but not enormously so during the entire time I was there. I think I saw 2 or 3 BJ tables, and roulette.

I was down several hundred at 1-2 due to priced in draws not hitting and one call down where I was right, but not right enough. But I made it all up and then some in 1.5 hours at the 2-4 table, which finally opened around 3pm.

The 1-2 action was varied. Not complete limp fests, and raises often led to only 2 or 3 people seeing flops. My table - which seemed pretty typical - had a few easy spots (weak tight or loose passive), a couple of players who were spazzy but not to the point of complete splashiness, and then the rest were at least mildly competent to competent.

At 2-5 the skill level wasn't much better. Yes - there were more 3-bets and people played position and bet sizing was more appropriate; but overall I think 2-4, from what I saw, is beatable for solid 1-2 players. Then again, maybe it's different as the day goes on, although this was a "holiday" weekday.

I had no issue with noise, although the billiards area was not very populated and there was no live music. The dealers and floors were at least on a par with Rockingham. I also like that tables are 9-handed, although no shuffle machines or drink holders are of course not ideal. The walk to the bathroom isn't ideal either, and I agree with those who think that it's unlikely that billiards players will be drawn into the poker area.

I'll definitely go back, and I think the room has the ingredients to succeed.

I was hopping someone would give a TR in this room, guess I'll have to. Will go as soon as I can. I've seen they've had at least 1 table running when I've checked pokeratlas.

Cheers Poker Room & Casino Update..........
we are chugging along in the process: will post TV link tomm...

UPDATE BIG MEETING TUESDAY NIGHT JANUARY 10, 2017 AT TOWN HALL 7PM

Dear Charities, associates, friends,

Happy New Year!

We have been working hard and are making progress, any help you could add would be appreciated.

We are quickly closing in on the next phase and are 100% all-in and in cooperation with the Town of Salem Planning Board. The planning director and the Planning Board have proposed a zoning amendment that would create a corridor where Charity Gaming will be an allowed use. Cheers Charity Poker room is in that proposed corridor.

On Tuesday night, at 7PM, January 10, 2017, there will be a public hearing on this amendment that the Planning Board is supporting:

Article # - Allow Charitable Gaming as Permitted Use To see if the Town will vote to adopt Amendment #__, as proposed by the Planning Board, to amend the Salem Zoning Ordinance as follows: Add a new Section 490-501B(3)(j) as follows: (j) Facilities offering games of chance for charitable organizations, as defined in RSA 287-D, which are licensed by the State, provided such facilities are located in that portion of the Commercial-Industrial B and C Districts to the east of Rt. 93 and South and North Policy Streets. The minimum gross floor area devoted to such facilities shall be 4000 square feet.

After Tuesday, the next step in the process is the annual town meeting in February followed by the annual town wide vote on zoning amendments, budgets, and general town business. The zoning change would become effective at midnight on the day of the town election, which is March 15.

While I am told there is lots of support for the zoning amendment proposed, certainly public support from the towns charities will surely help move this to approval.
With all the approvals falling into place, we hope to be open just before June 1, 2017 and help restore the 80 lost jobs and get back to the business.

WE are working very hard to get this done and the Charity Room open. Please contact me, show up a Tuesday’s meeting, and generally be supportive of this process.

I am excited to complete the process, get people back to work, and open the Charity revenue stream back up.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Sincerely yours,
Daniel Dandreo

I get what you mean, and it's a good question. I'm just not sure I could process something that has Springfield, MA and hype together. Is anyone familiar with where the casino will be located? Given the atmosphere in most of Springfield, a casino there might make Twin River seem like a five star destination by comparison.

Haha, well, it will probably be a topic deserving of it's own thread someday, and one of the things I'll chime in on. For now all I'll say is if you're in an area where the homeless guys hang out in the strip clubs I hope MGM is going to have a good budget for security.

Wow, that's terrific! I wasn't holding my breath, given the nonsense from Round One.

They approve all three they denied last time?

The changed a commercial corridor zoning to allow gaming and eliminated the ZBA from the equation. Town votes on all amendments and budgets on 3/15... New law starts at midnight that day...

MGM Springfield will be right downtown, Adjacent to the east of I-91 and facing it and the CT River. If you google earth the area, its the huge brown area right downtown next to the river.

I played 2-4 last night at BBCC. The game was extremely aggressive. I'd say at least half of the hands were 3 bet and there was even a fair number of 4 and 5 bet hands.

Pretty fun game and much different than a lot of the live games that seem to be filled with the entire table limping and seeing every flop.

Played at BBC a couple times last week, room is different than I'm used to but I like the change of environment.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea if they planned to get branded cards any time soon? They are using Copags that you can buy from anywhere which is kind of sketchy.

It will be close enough to the Mass Mutual Center and the Basketball Hall of Fame to be pretty safe. It does fall off very quick as you head a few blocks Southeast of it.

I own a number of houses in Springfield, including a couple within a few blocks of the casino to be built. Hoping to buy more as people come in to work there. It's safe enough, but really, if you're going to the casino, you're not gonna be walking there! The parking garage is already up and it's surprising how quickly it's coming together.

One of the funniest parts about MGM coming in there was when they were getting options to buy on all of the needed properties and one very successful pizza restaurant turned down $11 million after 2 years of back and forth to stay there and expand his own place. The second was when a lawyer owned building right in the new casino footprint that refused to sign a new option to sell as the law dragged on with the legislature. MGM was awarded the site and he wanted to triple the formerly agreed upon price.

They said no way, he held firm and wouldnt take the old amount so they changed the whole design to build right around his property.lol. He got nothing and he's surrounded on three sides by the casino now. You can see the ratty brick building on East Columbus Avenue as you go up 91 north on the right. Still has damage from the tornado 5 years ago but now he's stuck with it.

I also have a couple houses in Springfield, but over in the North end. The City is much better than it's reputation so I would not at all be worried about safety in or around the casino, or walking to one of the nearby hotels. They are also creating a pretty firm security zone around the area, with a dedicated police team serving the area.
I think it's going to surprise people and I am very excited about it.

I'll preface this by saying I would really like the MGM to do well, as well as Springfield in general, but there will be some growing pains.
I read the article about the 44 police officers being hired for the casino area so police don't have to be taken away from other neighborhoods. Along with these extra cops are going to be some sort of police kiosks, (staffed and unstaffed), where people can go for "help". What kind of help are they expecting people to need?
Besides the general stuff like seeing the angry people that frequent the bus station a few blocks away, and the inevitable two-bit muggers who will be around late night, is the fact that the entrances to the casino are going to be right on the street. There's only so much cops can do about pan-handling, and more to the point, who's responsibility will it be when the homeless or under aged stroll into the card room?
The other thing I think they got wrong with the planning is the open air design. Having this in another climate might be a good idea but in Mass? Who wants to vacation somewhere where they have to dress for arctic conditions every time they want to go from one room to another, and personally, in the summer I prefer to be indoors because of my allergies, (yes the card room will be indoors but overall I think it's logistically kind of dumb).
Also - how much added safety do you get just from being inside a parking structure?

Mid to Late next year. I don't feel like looking it up, but I believe the target opening date is September, maybe they will have a soft opening earlier. I've been told that the I-91 viaduct construction project (which MGM delayed everything by about a year as it would have been a disaster if they opened with the highway like it is right now) is ahead of schedule, so perhaps they may be able to push up the opening!
