Chasers was doing straight beats 3 of a kind, they've just switched it so now the only difference is that a flush beats a full house.

I've seen it both ways, but have played it more often with straight beats trips.

I am just a short deck novice like everyone else.

Sounds like some places maintain the standard poker rankings, and some adjust them to reflect the actual probabilities. Paigow poker is inconsistent like that - a straight still beats 3 of a kind, even though a straight is easier to make... this is reflected in the bonus payouts - 2-1 for straight, 3-1 for 3oak. So even within the game itself it is inconsistent.

It's not just about the rarity. One of the things I like about holdem is that based on the board, any hand better than two pair can possibly be the nuts. But if a set beats a straight, a straight can never be the nuts. This means strategically I will never chase a straight draw ever, and if I win a hand with a straight it will be by accident. Removing a whole type of hand from possibly being the nuts makes the game less fun, I think.

<moved from Encore thread>

Speaking of Mohegan which re-did their poker room earlier in the year and Foxwoods which just moved their cash games upstairs next to the tournament area, have many people been by there lately?

I see much lighter traffic on Bravo for both those poker rooms.

Sadly, no. As much as both rooms were fine by me and I was even happier with the Mohegan room after it moved, I just can't justify 2 hours drive when Encore and NH rooms are less than 30 minutes away. Maybe someday when I can invest an entire day in a tournament that looks good down there, or if there's a show I get comped for that I want to see. Otherwise, doubtful I'll see those rooms more than two or three times a year.

I was at Mohegan a week ago for the first time post-move. I didn't like the room. It felt more like a bingo hall in terms of vibe and the cage and sign in desk seemed to be oddly placed, at least in comparison to where I'd have put them. It's clean and big and the fact that it can lure in other gamblers with stadium table games and diners with Johnny Rockets is a plus I suppose, but I miss the old days when the old room was where it was and the Casino of the Wind wasn't just operational on the weekend. But it is what it is, and I suppose I'll get used to it.

Was at Chasers yesterday, They removed 2 poker tables along the back wall and replaced them with roulette tables.

Hi-hand promo and triple points yesterday. They had 7 tables going while I was there.

Yeah those new tables are pretty sick. In addition to the history screen and the chip sorter the new tables light up under the felt to indicate all the winning bets and displays WINNER - ___ with the winning number under the felt. Not much for table games myself, but $1 minimum roulette could be a way I wait for my name to be called.

Oh great! Now I'll never get that song from looping in my head over and over (..that's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I LIKE it).

Worse than the theme from Bonanza!

Seriously, 2.6 billion to build a gorgeous casino and KC & the Sunshine Band is what they consider entertainment? Why not Lady Gaga or Barbra Streisand or Michael Buble or The Rolling Stones or Rob Thomas or just about anyone other than them?

Bet you wish you could shred drums like Paul Doucette does here. Rob Thomas Matchbox Twenty English Town.

Flew to Vegas to see this performance. Yep, I'd fly to EB in a heart beat if they booked them. (Must watch whole video for the drum solo at the end.)

I too, am a huge Rob Thomas fan. I’ve seen him in concert several times and those are what really made me like him. How he describes the exact circumstances that were the inspiration behind every song is amazing. People that write him off as corporate pop are just closed minded. He was at Mohegan very recently. I was sad I didn’t have the opportunity to go

As far as the gum, I chew it frequently because I am on meds that cause extreme dry mouth and I’ve never been told to toss it. The people who usually are singled out are the people who chew it like a cow grazing in a field.

Big Rob Thomas fan too, though I've never seen him live. I want to now though!
