When you operate a business in a highly regulated industry, and the regulators tell you to do something, file something, produce something, etc., you do it.

If you don't, the regulators will put your business on their radar screen and eventually you will get shut down unless you right your ship. Regulators don't want to close businesses and put people out of work; they would prefer a business to operate in compliance. But if the business constantly disregards requirements, then the regulators get worried that the public will think they aren't doing their jobs, and they crack down. A business righting their ship means they have to hire managers and lawyers, and pay attention to details; its not easy and not everyone can do it. For the sake of many innocent workers I hope the business can get itself on track.

Major violation, $5k fine, and failure to correct this within five days could result in facility license being revoked.
So deleting footage of time that you failed to report charity numbers and high hand numbers is not a big deal? This will be the violation that keeps him shut down. Funny how everybody on here thought I was a Puck troll and now they see everything I was saying is all true and Puck is a dirtbag.

Don't take my words out of context. The quote above was hitched to this one:

Unless there was a specific incident being investigated on Day 44 or 45, "major" seems like overkill on this one

To be fair, today was Belmont Stakes day and Seabrook is the only simulcast location in NH. Today might be an outlier.

Have to say I was pulling for puckster early on but the last 6-9 months were brutal. Good luck to him (and everyone trying their hand at business) but hard to see how/where he goes from here. And his business acumen and personality may be a help in the background of the business but WOW he should not be anywhere near the front or customer facing.

I dont know the local dynamics but I have to imagine getting shut down has to really hurt near to medium term business if it doesnt totally sink it.

Some of his choices in the development of the business weren't so great, but were only rough spots for the most part. Biggest mistake was charging ahead full-steam when Chasers beat Cheers to the punch. He really should have reassessed at that point. (You play poker, right Puck? Just because you put out a big bet doesn't mean you have to keep playing for stacks if you get new info that changes everything.)

The stuff that's coming out of the gaming commission is just insane, though. I'm happy to rail against all kinds of regulations, but at the end of the day, you gotta know that brazenly breaking a basic rule like not playing while you're a game operator will (a) be seen by everyone and (b) jeopardize your business—with essentially no upside. And not submitting required paperwork? Deleting surveillance footage you're required by law to retain?! It's well into the realm of Crazytown now.

I like competition. It keeps businesses in line. Along those lines, I'd rather Cheers stay in business even if I never set foot in the room. But jeez, it sure doesn't seem like that's going to happen unless a lot of things change dramatically.

Manchester Union Leader just got around to reporting that grocery list of fines. Sadly, when they asked the lottery official why these infractions weren't mentioned last week when the reporter called for comment on the shutdown, the official replied (parphrasing), "These offenses weren't related to the shutdown."

These are strong words--but I can't conjure an argument against them. I've been chewing on those words for several days now, trying to figure out what he was thinking there, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I just can't see it.

If it was an innocent mistake, it seems to me that it could've been easily corrected in the ten days the Commission gave him to fix it.

Is my impression correct, that Puck has blamed the property owner for the failure to meet the ten-day deadline? Because I'm trying to come up with innocent explanations for that (as well), and failing (as well).

I would be most concerned about the deletion of video recordings, over an extended time period, deemed a “major”, “non-accidental” violation. Worthy of license revocatin if not corrected w/in five days.

This seems damning.

Any news as to why it was postponed? Or just bureaucratic we-do-what-we-want-when-we-want reasons?

What is not mentioned in the report is whether or not the video was manually deleted, or just automatically deleted/overwritten.
I used to work with surveillance systems and typically a server type box would store the last 30 days or so if video, with each new minute replacing the last minutefrom 30 days ago. You could also change the quality if video being saved, which would alter the amount saved. It's possible Cheers simply did not have enough storage to keep 45 days.

Of course, it's also possible they just deleted it, but it seems weird.

Keep blaming the state...none of this is Puck’s fault.

The State requested the footage because he didn’t have a complete written record of high hand transactions and charity paperwork. Should NH just use the honor system for mandatory payouts? Manchester and Hampton would love that.

do you feel the same way about the FBI deleting damming evidence emails against Hillary?

who's more likely to have an OOPS mistake; a guy like Puck or the FBI

Count me among those who think it's highly unlikely the current incarnation of Cheers ever deals another hand of poker again. But by the same token I'm pretty sure any time a new room opens in New England (if that even happens after the Wynn), you can bet that "Borgata North" will get trotted out amidst the discussion.

youd think as soon as they got shutdown they'd be scrambling for the paperwork. if everything is always followed as they said it has been it shouldn't need a delay....just turn it into sheets bar and call it a day
