Yes. Multiple tables of each running daily. Next best option from Marco would be driving across I-75 to Hollywood hardrock.

i am going to florida in late january and want to play plo but i understand that the big game is private even though it shows on their web site as a live game i would hate to drive 1 1/2 hours and be told i couldnt play because it is a private game. Are all of the plo games there private.

The PLO game here is not private. Anyone can play. The only problem is when there is only one table running sometimes you may get stuck on waiting list for quite a while.

So I've just been informed by 2 people that the 5-10-20 PLO is now a private game

How can they make it private? I haven't been there in a few months and I don't doubt shorty I know your there a lot I just don't understand how they can make a private game in a casino. Also don't they have more than 1 table sometimes?

yep...as does most of the Naples Bonita area. If you get hungry late, theres always the Waffle House out near I-75
I try and not get involved in games here past midnight, the players really roll it up and call it a night pretty quickly.

Its really annoying that they can make it private but apparently they can. They're renting the table out to the guys who are running the game for "x" amount. I don't know how much that is right now. But I think they're also getting more rake from that game then usual rake but Im not positive. I can't see what would be in it for the house if they're not getting extra rake. The guys running the game get a list of 12 players in to the floor the night before and only those 12 guys are allowed to play the next day. Its crazy and a lot of people are getting pissed off and annoyed with everything about it.

Its ruining all of the other plo action in the room. There was at minimum 1 main game 2/5/10 everyday with one very full and active must move or most days it was 2 main games with a must move lately. Now that this private game has gone off theres barely one other game and it is the nittiest lamest game ever now since all the action players that make the game what it is are all lumped together and hand selected by a few to be picked off at will in a closed game. I just think its really bad for all of the other games in the room overall and its going to continue to be a problem and make people not want to come play here anymore because they won't be able to get into the games they came to play. I really think that if that game runs for an extended period of time its going to kill all of the plo games in the room and most likely eventually end up at someones house and private anyways.

Well, obviously this is legal in Lee County. And as such, yeah they can do it. But your point is well-taken in that is this what they should be doing? No, probably not. But lets remember something here. This is the only legal gaming spot in Lee County, they make plenty of dough, create jobs, turn over plenty of money to the government- why should anyone from the State, County or locals change anything? They have no idea.

Florida poker is still in its infancy. Remember the original rules for poker that started in Broward County? $5.00 max bet, $100. max buy-in. Awful. But I'll go put $500 to show on that horse or dog over there, thats OK.

You guys have come a long ways. But Florida is far from where the rest of the county is when it comes to good poker, customer service-orientation, room sustaining promotions, etc. And this "private game at a public reacetrack" is a small example. Your battle and mission, should you choose to accept it, is to show that both the public and the county itself is getting harmed is some fashion by the allowing of this practice. That will be a stretch when dealing with a lot of people who clearly "don't get it" thru no fault of their own, but merely because they lack the experience and expertise in long-term gaming and poker room management.

So, don't some poker rooms have private games? of course they do- Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Commerce, Bicycle Casino- and they can both afford to and know how to. If this private game is out running in the public areas of the poker room, thats a problem long-term. But if it goes into the back-room, thats a bigger problem, with more potential for shadiness, and eventual exit from the premises.

Good luck convincing the room and the County that an ongoing Private Game at a public cardroom and racetrack is a bad thing. Generally, I agree with you. But my opinion doesn't really matter either. I'm in Naples for two weeks a year, and in Florida for about six-eight weeks when the golf tours are. NFMPR has little incentive to change anything- and it shows. The best poker rooms in Florida are where there is plenty of competition, just like anywhere else in the USA.

I dont see any problem bringing a private game to a card room. This puts more people in room and some of the people that were in room may be invited to the private game.
But what i see happening is that a couple of guys have convinced the regular players in the room that we should make the game private. this hasnt added anything to the room it basically has hurt the plo in general just yesterday the 2510 plo was over before 3 oclock and the private game about 5 oclock..at this time of the year there has been main and must move games for the 2510 and the 51020. now the games are quitting early.
We are all here to play poker and it would seem that some kind of compromise could be agreed upon..An example the private game starts with their players and anytime after say 1pm a seat becomes open it would be open to the house. this assures the private game players that they get there seat and gives opportunity for the rest of the room when the game becomes short. This is just an idea. Also i have heard that on the big pots in the private game extra money is given to a player and accumulated until later in day and then given to floor. So the floor is sure going to be looking favorably towards the private game players. it just seems that the floor could come up with a more fair way of treating their players that come everyday rather than have a couple of the private game players dictating it. Just a thought..

Yes, you can have a private game in a Florida poker room. Its more for public show than for keeping people out. The 5-10-20 game is probably the biggest game that runs on the West Coast regularly, unless the 25-25 game at Derby is running this time of year. If you ask and show up with enough money to show you aren't taking a shot, they will let you in. The 5-5-10 PLO8 and Big O at Sarasota is the same way. November Niner used to host it, played in it once and its not exactly a strat game, its 8-9 guys looking to joke about losing/winning 10K and forgetting it the next day. I have seen the 5-10-20 at Ft Myers running it twice with 30K plus pots. People don't really know much about Naples, but there is a TON of money in the area, its the wealthiest area that no one knows about.

I like how they made their every other Wednesday high hand day to every Wednesday now. That, along with the Saturday and early bird high hand specials, are pretty good especially when you consider how few people are in the room in the earlier hours.

Not true in this case. Hell I lost pretty good in the 5/10/20 right before it became private and I was shut out.

this is definitely fact. you can't just show up with 20k and want to play and they'll let you in. theres people that have relationships for decades that aren't allowed in the game and a lot more money then 20k. gl tho.

Making the "big" game private pretty much shut down any new or regular players that would play the game from time to time. Think about walking into a poker room wanting to play PLO and being told, "oh, that's a private game". You ever coming back?

Your comments were in response to my post about how in the short and long term that a private game in a public cardroom is against all sound business judgement and practice. That a license-holder in Lee County should be operating ALL aspects of their business in a public, not private, manner.
What do you think will happen when the off season comes, and the tourists go away? This game will go public again. But why would the guys who play it want that, when what they ought to do is go play privately somewhere else, with no drop, no fee and no public? Long-term, this move of a private game in a public cardroom will kill the game.
