I played in a bounty donkament at Mountaineer this morning.

The only exciting thing I have to report is that Mountaineer moved the poker room inside of the main casino, right next to the off track betting room. There was a guy running back and forth between hands placing bets on horses.

Just a heads up, as I think the new room location will lead to much juicier games.

This room is a ****hole. It's very dark. Loud from exhaust fans as well as live bands. It's secluded in the oldest part of the casino where no table games players will ever notice it.

Don't look up whatever you do. If you do you will notice the rafters are full of dust and filth that is continually raining down on the players.

TV situation is still awful so no love to attract players on football game day.

The cashier is up the stairs around the corner and through a bank of slot machines so it's real fun carrying chips through the crowds. Also this crew of cashiers currently have no experience counting chips for disbursement or cash-out.

Cocktail waitresses jobs got harder as well. They have to travel further to pick up drinks, now with stairs and have to deal with the slot players too so expect drink service to suffer unless Clair is there since she's unstoppable.

Overall this move is a downgrade in every sense. There's zero reason they couldn't have put up some drywall and paneling and make it look like a real poker room instead of Hitler's Hillbilly Bunker.

I'm sad. I like the staff at Mountaineer but I'm going to think twice before I make the drive there.

I hope that's not true. I have friends who still work there as dealers etc. I just really wish the powers that be would do the right thing and put up false walls etc and make the room look like it's not a dungeon.

As it is, my eyes were shot in a few hours and I'm only 34. I don't know how the old timers can play in the dark for very long.

All very accurate criticism. They added new lights from what I heard, but the glare on the cards made it tough to see. The older room was much nicer, but the action dried up because it was entirely separate from the Casino. But hopefully this move will fill the tables a little more.

This place has been a Black Hole since the day it opened a couple years ago.

Apparently the big MOVE hasn't changed that any.

Witzo is dead on. However the games are significantly juicier. I've put in 3 sessions in the week since the move and it has increased traffic, and I have seen plenty of new players, some may be one buy-in wonders, but more money in the poker economy is more money. Plenty of people who would never venture to the old room, now casually stroll in and play. Also, on Monday night, the tournament was announced throughout the whole casino (not that I play in those rake-fests), but they had 53 people play I believe. The lighting has been completely resolved, they put up standard flourescent light fixtures and there is now solid light in the room as opposed to the either crypt like atmosphere or the sun like presence of the flood lights above. And Mountaineer has never been a black hole, it's been a highly profitable experience for me virtually since the doors opened in and I know plenty other people as well. Some people just don't understand what great games are, then again, some people never leave their local area to play and casually post their opinions on here with a one trip sample or no real experience at all.

More or less solidifying my statements from my prior post, I don't even know why I'm dignifying this with a response. I'm assuming you're one of those people that berates people when you lose to them as well. I'm pretty sure these all go hand-in-hand "I have more money in my pocket than this whole room, you wanna play for rolls?" "Do you know who I am?" etc etc. More or less the general attitude that keeps various casual players from playing in certain games because they're turned off by that general demeanor when they're there to have a good time on a Friday or Saturday. Also coming from the same person who wants to make 100bb minimum buy-ins on no-limit games... sure.. let's just make them 100bb and no cap (like no-limit hold'em is supposed to be) so that no casual players or lesser players ever want to take a shot in the various bigger games, what a great plan. Let's just structure all of the games so they're only attractive to true deep stack poker players and eliminate all fish from the poker economy. Sorry, I don't see anything wrong with someone buying into a game for 50bb and stacking off with AK and small pairs, but obviously you're rolled to the point where you don't need a couple hundred here or a couple hundred there.

Played the Mountaineer Midnight madness tournament last night. They got 53 players and it started on time. 12k in chips with 2k dealer add on.

12 minute levels, made for a fast but fun muddfest.

24 runners for the today's (11/27) bounty tourney. 50 + 50b +25 2 1/2 nl tables going at noon when i got there and there were 4 full 1/2 nl tables and a 2/4 limit table going from about 2:30 til i left at 5. Seemed to be some casual gambler traffic also as a few times I noticed people coming and going pretty quickly and their seats didn't stay empty for long. Table I sat at for a while had a bit of action but it was mostly 1 aggro. guy on a pretty good heater pushing most of it. I had a big suck out and got sucked out on a few times but left even for my session wishing I wouldn't have needed to leave yet but had other plans.

I play at Mountaineer about once a week in the winter. I did not start going this fall until about 5 weeks ago, so I can't say what the new room looked like when it first opened. But, while it may have been a wise business decision to close the old room, none of the players or staff that I have spoken with like the new room nearly as well as the old room. Long walk to get chips, long walk to the bathrooms, much slower drink service, still poor lighting at the tables, much more expensive food, and I am really getting tired of my cloths smelling like stale cigarette smoke. And, since the Rivers and the Meadows opened their poker rooms, the number of players has dropped significantly.

It somewhat seems like Mountaineer wants an excuse to close the Poker Room. While they did have 11 cash games going at 8pm on friday night, at 2am there were only 3.
Most of the tournament players didn't re-enter the cash games.

This place was doomed from the start with poor management. I feel bad for the good floor people and dealers. Many who left for the "Rivers" or the "Meadows".
Many more will be gone once Cleveland opens.

Yeah the Rivers room is just really nice, non smoking, and full. Can't really argue there. If Mountaineer was smart (and they are not) they'd try to carve out a couple of niches to compete.

I was there Friday night and I know they had <10 for the Satellite that evening so they made it a cash event and not for a seat. I played 1/2 for a bit with a audiologist who said he was def buying in. He was the only person from the talk of things who had planned on playing the event.

I'm glad for the satellite winners they got to pocket 3k instead of being forced to play in a 4man donkament.

Seemed really silly to have a 3k event at a location that doesn't often host 2/5 games.

I still really enjoy playing at Mountaineer since I enjoy the dealers and still run into friends down there but tournys should be more geared towards the types of players they get which are casuals.

This coming Friday they plan to have a $100ish buyin 6-handed event. Not really sure if casual players like 6 handed play since they normally cry when theres an empty seat at a 10-handed game.
