I did make it to the tourney, and placed on the bubble, 17th. I was short, but still had enough to have some fold equity, so I shoved the BTN despite not being the shortest stack with QJs. The BB makes a pretty light call with 77, and hits a set on the flop.

I probably should have nitted up here, but the entire table wouldn't budge and I thought I could claim the blinds...why BB called with 77 here I will never know, and his stack was not much larger than mine.

Can't really argue with either play there. In tourneys, most short(er) stacks will call with almost any PP there, especially if your shove appears to be a steal.

Nitting up on the bubble is a double edged sword. You might just squeek into the cash, but barring some miracle double ups, you probably won't make it into the good money. You also don't get to take advantage of everyone else who's nitting up. I've seen the button make 2 full orbits on the bubble w/o a flop.

Came 6th for 635 or so....upset I couldn't finish because I was chip leader with eight left at the final table, lost AK < 88 < KQ for half my stack, then doubled back with JJ > AK

After being on such a roller-coaster ride I was at 150k and blinds shoot up so fast in that thing...at 15k/30k/3k i shove my button with A3o and this guy to my left just tanks forever, I had been really active stealing and these two guys were getting pretty pissed, he finally all of a sudden yells '**** it!' and calls with 22...flop 3xx turn 2...said he called with 22 because it was his 22nd birthday last month lol

I wish they added a couple levels to the tournament, it really is like a super turbo, but considering how nitty our final table was playing we would of been there until next year if they switched the structure

IWSJ yeah i played with you, I was in the blue nike shirt, we sat next together at a table for awhile. I ended up getting there QQ > J10 on a J107cc flop against some random. I kind of thought you played online a little bit but was expecting someone in a sports jersey obviously.

Yeah that 77 call is standard I snap there 100%, I think you had like 60k and blinds were something like 2/4k at that point, pretty standard hand imo.

I guess 6th isint that bad for my debut at MS, I might grind cash saturday...have Sun games to work Friday/Sunday and I need to watch Celts/Lakers.

Yeah, I know the 77 is snap there, I am more lamenting the fact that he had a hand to call with there--given QJs on the BTN, I felt I had to shove given that it was in a favorable part of my shoving range given position. Oh well, no need to be results-oriented, since AA loses to that flop just as easily >_<.

The later rounds of the tourney are indeed a constant struggle to stay afloat, and nitting up to cash is a good way to guarantee a short tournament life after the bubble bursts.

Anyway, congrats man, it was nice playing with you .

But I did not pay attention to anyone's shirt--were you wearing sunglasses? A hat? :P

Stack sizes matter, but this seems like a pretty trivial call.

And in hindsight, I agree, but being so close to the bubble, I thought he would pick a better spot.

Riza, Jerseys ,
How's Kill Everyone to compare to Snyder's Poker Tournament Formula 1,2?
I found that PTF books makes some correct observations and really good
ideas about MTT dynamics but PTF give a completely wrong path and action
timing, at least at earlier levels.
Basically you start tourney and if you were lucky at the start , then
you can reconsider you strategy and maybe follow PTF path for some time.

sigh...thinking about it after i busted last night i should of tried to push for a chop, the stacks were so low with the blind levels the way they were, its so high variance that it probably would of been smarter to take a guaranteed 1.5k or something rather than try to gun for the 4k.

I was right next to you for about an hour, to your left. I had QQ and bet/called when some random had J10 on J107cc (too many draws/1pairs to fold with a 30bb stack)...turn X river Q...then you ended up rivering a boat on J10JxQ against a guys K9, dealer said queens were hot etc...

Also put out a really small bet with 2 tables left against you with A2o on AK446 and you looked me up with 33

Ah, so THAT was you! How ironic, how I river a boat with QQ shortly after that comment . I thought I was ahead on the turn, anyway, and after the Q hits on the river, I think I have a legitimate shot at getting paid (I had him on Kx or Qx). You are very friendly--you should come around more often!

I hope you found me to be affable, if not a little quiet.

Absolutely did not have you on the ace after two streets of checking, though--I had a bluffcatcher, and for the cost of a BB, I will gladly take a shot to win 4 BB plus antes with it.

The guy is so crude that he is awesome, and I have tried every trick in the book to attempt to make his list, but he refuses! I even take it to different levels:

Level 1: He is not a bad player, but he is an open book and I can put him on a hand consistently. I constantly rub the fact that he has yet to win a pot in which I was a participant. We get to showdown, and for example, I show top 2 to take down the pot, I ask "did I make the list yet?" every single time.

Level 2: Just for kicks, I call his PFR with 84o in the BB and complete miss the flop, check-raise his bet and double the turn, he folds, I show him my 84o. He just laughs!

So now we advance to Level 3...

Level 3: I notice that the TV is showing a replay of a Yankee home run, so I yell to him, "hey (name), look at the TV, your boy Teixeira just hit a big fly!" He screams his usual "OH BABY!" and I point out that he just celebrated a replay and the table starts laughing. And he found it hilarious, I don't get it!

I want to make his list .

You can make his list by not respecting his raises or outplaying him.
