Because you're not risking 25k to win 25k! That's only true if you're flipping for it, but when you're a 7 to 1 favorite you basically get an extra $125k in equity, plus with the stipulation that its only half your roll there's no risk of ruin to stop you.

Haven't you heard of anyone taking a shot and losing their entire bankroll because they didn't/couldn't grind it out at low stakes?
I mean, I'd obviously prefer to get staked like IWSJ said if I'd proved in the past I could beat the bigger games and its more +EV for me to play higher. Why would I have an ego about it? Its still money, I'd just be winning at a slower pace.

I'm really not trying to argue for the sake of arguing, nor am I a guy who can never admit he's wrong. But this hypothetical situation is one that's just so ludicrously +EV that I found it insane that someone would be so vehemently hung up on the 13% of the time they lose rather than focusing on the 87% of the time they win. In real life you rarely get a proposition that's simultaneously speculative enough to double in value yet with only a 13% risk. If you're that terrified of a small risk of ruin then that's your personal preference, but I can't and don't care about changing how you think.

ANYWAY, to change the subject I'm starting to really miss Mohegan/Foxwoods. I've been abroad for a few weeks now and while they have casinos here the 18 hands an hour they crank out is putting me on serious life tilt. I think I'm just going to grind online for the next three months until I return to America before I play live again.

NO guarantee but I will be headed down late thurs morning and playing through the day pretty much. Although across the river the pastures seem to be alittle greener when it comes to some other types of games which just won't run at the sun.

Thinking about going down for the guarantee, how big is the field generally?

last week it was 127, i think they mentioned fields of 150-180 people a few weeks ago, guessing it will depend on the weather

Depends on how you play and what you buyin for. If you buyin for $300 and I'd say you at least need 3000 to be comfortable

you really think that little? i was thinking upwards of 10K or so just to play optimally

It really depends on play style your win rate in the game and how many hours you plan to play I'd personally be comfortable with 3k. I mean 30 buyins would bring you to 9k. I don't really think that much is required at all but again this depends on several other factors some of which I mentioned earlier I mean if risk of ruin is a concern then the more you have the better off you are.

My rule is 15 mid-stack buyins live, 30 mid-stack buyins online multi-tabling.

I tend to go $3k, myself--you should have no problem playing optimally with 15 buyins behind you in a live setting. or 10 deep-stacked buy-ins (if you do not think 10 is enough, then I think you are best not playing a deep-stacked game...it takes a great scenario to get all of my chips in with a $300 buy-in. Yes, AA pre-flop IS considered a great scenario )

I knew we would think along the same lines IWSJ. Yes, it does take quite a good scenerio to find all the chips in the middle on a 300 buyin. ok, sign me up IWSJ I am in on your offer only if you get me a custom jersey that says IWSJ on the back and has your favorite number on it or something and on the front it could say I work for and then your name or something like that
