This is a little late considering I've had the pic for about a week now, but since I haven't seen any other pics of the Mohegan room posted yet I figured I'd post this one. Had to crop it a bit, as my buddy's girlfriend was in the pic... and god only knows how they got access to the room to even take this pic

Wow. That looks great. It looks like they have at least one big screen tv. Does anyone know what time they will open up the list on Sunday for the charity day? How early should I get there?

I think they will have free Booze also. I know Mount Airy has free booze now so I imagine the will follow suit.

My understanding is that you have to get to the second level of the comp card system in order to get free booze. I thought there was some state law that prevented them from flat out giving away booze.

There was initially when casinos first opened in PA but that has since changed.

I know MA is offering free alcohol to everybody. So I would imagine PD will follow suit. If not there going to loose quit a bit of pit business at least.

They are only about 1/2 hr away from each other. So I don't see people having a problem driving it if they want to gamble and drink.

PA Gaming Laws always allowed free booze. It is at the discretion of the Casino as to whether or not they'd like to offer it. For example, Harrahs Chester does not. Bethlehem Sands does. So basically when visiting PA casinos, your mileage may vary.

I going to guess that all PA casino's will eventually offer free alcohol. Especially once the pit games are in full blast.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say not all will do it. If they're already jammed (and they will be at the outset), why do they need to? Believe me, I love to drink and gamble, but I don't think it makes much financial sense for some properties.

All the casinos have a HUGE tax nut to crack in the state, and free alcohol will cut right into the bottom line.

Mt. Airy is not doing great, but if they can make the numbers work it might be worth a shot in their position. I think they have to do something, and that's fine to try, but still I don't think it is the best business driver for them. Look at Sands, which has been giving it away, and they aren't lighting the world on fire. Rumors of more layoffs down there are in the works.

By contrast, PcD is doing very well, and really has little to gain by offering it free to everyone. First off, who is free booze supposed to attract?

Higher tier players already get their alcohol comped and I would bet playing tables at a good average bet will get that done as well, regardless of status. Those are the players they want to keep happy.

Will someone playing $50 a hand drive to Mt. Airy only because the booze is free? Doubt it. If we were talking 5 or 10 miles maybe it becomes more of a consideration, but the two properties are not next door.

On any given weekend night, enough of the lower folks are walking around there sloshed anyway, so they obviously are happy paying for their beverages at the bars or the machines.

Opening free booze to all will not only cost money to purchase, but it will cut out the money they're currently making from people who buy a drink or twenty while playing. Add to that the number of power drinking townies working the free stuff without gambling (this area has a surplus of those) and beefed up security (additional cost) will be a must at peak hours.

I'm not saying some properties won't have something to gain by giving it away, but I think Pocono Downs is one property, at least at this point, that really has no need to give away alcohol to everyone.

The soft opening will have Omaha, Stud, Hold' em , all small limit.

Does anyone think small limit Omaha will go over in Wilkes-barre?

I think it may. Several of the games in the area play O8. There may be a base of players coming by that would keep a 4-8/5-10 healthy. I personally hope so!!!

Is there anything wrong with doing both?

If I understand the PLCB and PGCB laws correctly, the law allows giving free drinks to slots players, but does not yet allow free drinks for table games players. Sounds archaic, but that's the state of Pa. for you.

Curious as to where you're hearing these rumors about the Sands. I was hired there, as were several hundred other new dealers, floors, pit bosses, etc. They've also started hiring back some of the food and beverage people who were laid off a few months ago. From what I've heard, the Sands still needs to hire more dealers and supervisors for table games. Poker, with 12 tables at this juncture, is in good shape staffing-wise.

I was just at Mt Airy last night and they have signs all over for FREE alcohol for active players, regardless of the level of cards you have. I dont care what anyone says but free alcohol for poker players always changes the type of play and players. Yes I would rather choose a casino that gives away free alcohol than having to pay for it, besides with the table game players they drink much more than the slot players do and they have to compete with Sands.

For Mt. Airy, sure, it could very well be a good idea. I hope it is. More viable competition is always a good thing. Anything perking them up is good.

As someone who lives 10 mins away from PcD and 30 mins from Mt. Airy, would I drive out there only because of the free booze (or loose play because of the free booze)? No. I think Pocono will have loose enough games anyway. Game selection will be a top priority.

Admitted it is hearsay, but it has come from current employees and former employees. I hope Sands does well and has great games. Since they've already gone through bouts of layoffs, I hope there aren't any more.

**** I'll take a 30min drive for free booze and looser play.

I think Mt. Airy's games will be softer than PD.

There are quite a few games/players around here (WB/Scranton) that have some good solid players/Regs. If you ever play in the underground games (there are quite a few of them) you should know what I'm talking about.

I think Mt Airy is going to get more fishy tourist's since it's in the Pocono's (a vacation destination) and is a Hotel Resort. I will def be taking trips to Mt. Airy especially on the weekends. A 30min drive where we live is no big deal.

To change subjects how won't PcD have the softest games...there's like 5 colleges within 20 minutes ur gonna have fish that work at geisinger there gonna ship mad money into the room...

All on all PcD will be a fishpond for sure

One last thing people on all these threads have to stop wishing about there being an O8 game or mixed games they just don't get off the ground...that being said if anyone wants to fire up a mixed game pm me

Simply responding to a previous post.

Any and all of these new poker rooms are going to be fishponds for the first two weeks to a month, maybe longer.
