So yeah, I also inquired in the Colorado poker thread, but I thought I'd make a dedicated thread for more exposure. I left Vegas last month, and I'm itching for some action. The problem is that I only see Holdem when I check Bravo, and I'm never going to drive an hour into the mountains to play a game I basically refused to play in Vegas. If anyone has visited Vegas and joined a low limit (3/6 or 4/8) mix game at all in the last 6 years, we've probably played together. I LOVE mix games. I play purely for entertainment value, and I'd rather lose money playing mix than win money playing Holdem! So, even though I know it's a long shot, here goes...

Anyone who's interested, let's get a mix game started in Black Hawk some night soon. I'd prefer to play 3/6 or 4/8, but I'm happy to play as high as 9/18. I've found the best mixes are 9-12 games, consisting of 3-4 of each game "type" (draw, stud, and flop). I'll play as many games as the table wishes, but there really should be a minimum of 9. I'd also be happy to just make placards for every game and play it as a "dealer's choice".

These are the games I've played regularly in Vegas over the last seven years:

Draw Games:
  • 2-7 TD
  • A-5 TD
  • 5-Card Hi TD
  • Archie
  • Badeucy
  • Badacey
  • Badugi
  • Hi-Dugi (AKA; Goodugi - sort of rare, but FUN)
Flop Games:
  • Drawmaha
  • Double Board Omaha
  • Omaha 8
  • Big O
  • Pineapple
  • 4-card Crazy Pineapple Ocean
  • 3-2-1 Omaha
Stud Games:
  • Stud Hi
  • Super Stud Hi
  • Stud 8
  • Super Stud 8
  • Hi-Lo Regular
  • Razz
  • Razzdugi
  • 2-7 Razz

I'm also always happy to add capped big bet games into any mix:
  • 2-7 SD NL
  • 5-Card SD NL
  • 2-7 TD PL
  • Big O PL
  • PLO
  • PLO8

If it's not abundantly obvious... Basically anything other than Holdem. I'm more than happy to play just about anything you can come up with though. Hell, even though I never joined Barge myself, if any of you are in the area, I KNOW you guys would be down to play.

For what it's worth, if I was making my ideal game rotation, it would be:
  • Double Board Omaha
  • Super Stud Hi
  • 2-7 TD
  • Big O
  • Razz
  • Archie
  • 4-card Crazy Pineapple Ocean
  • Hi-Lo Regular
  • Badugi
  • Drawmaha
  • Razzdugi
  • Badeucy

So come on people... Aren't you tired of playing with just two cards? Lets get a weekly (or bi-weekly) mix game started.

I had heard from a dealer at the Golden Gates that there is a limit to which poker games casinos are licensed to run in Blackhawk. Not sure if this is accurate or not, but may explain why there haven't been any other games running as I'm sure there are more then enough players to get a game like that going semi regularly like the Omaha on weekends. I for one would help start a game if possible.

I was looking at the Ameristar site, and it states: "We are willing to start an interest list for any game". I would imagine that would include any normal poker format. None of the games I listed fall outside that category.

I will admit that it's wasn't always easy to start mix games, even in Vegas. But once it got started, people would flock to it. We just need to pick a date and show up.

I'd be new to most of the games but I've been wanting to learn so you can count me in. I'd be up for playing whatever the group decides. Would prefer to play closer to 8/16 but would be fun even if 4/8. Hopefully we get a few others and can set the time. Firing HPT this weekend but I'm ready to go after that.

I'm certainly OK with playing higher, but in my experience it's a bit tough to get games going past a certain point.

I called Ameristar and was told that they would run a mix game, but all the games had to be on their "list". She told me that Pineapple was allowed, but Stud wasn't!!! I truly have ended up in the Twilight Zone.

LOL - I couldn't agree more. A few years ago I decided to jump into the nightly tourney at Aria. I was actually doing pretty well and was leading my table. A 4/8 mix game started up with a couple dealers I knew across the room. I immediately donked off in the tourney so I could play the mix game instead. Totally worth it. At one point we were playing 5-card double board Omaha and capping it blind, pre-flop. Somewhere on my phone I have a picture of a $300 pot, entirely in $1 chips, in a 4/8 limit game. SO much fun!

I plan to go up to Black Hawk next weekend to play the O8 game, and I'll inquire as to what EXACTLY we can and cannot play in a mix up there.

I'm playing the O8 at Ameristar right now, and I've started an interest list for 10/20 mix. It's not showing on bravo, so call in to join.

You should try the Colo prison system. Dudes are down to play any possible variation you can dream up. You could be eating ramen noodles, cheetos and little debbies till your hearts content

I told them that I wanted a mix game list. They waited nearly an hour before starting it. They only put it up as an interest list, so it didn't show on Bravo. Then someone else joined the list and they changed it to "Holdem/Omaha Mix Game". Yeah. If I wasn't cleaning up in the O8 game (WOW, it was soft!), I might have been more annoyed.

Honestly, I don't think Ameristar will do it at all. I might call one of the other rooms and ask what can be set up. If I can get something for next Friday, who's down to join?

Ugh...

So I called Golden Gates poker room. On the plus side, the guy I spoke to was BY FAR the nicest person I've talked to yet. He didn't act condescending about the idea like everyone else, and he also seemed to be the most knowledgeable about the rules. The downside is that a mix game is never going to happen. He told me that he was happy to spread a mix... as long as it was ONLY flop games or ONLY stud games. He said the only way they've "gotten away with it" in the past was in a HORSE tournament, and that CO gaming won't allow the two variants to be mixed in a cash game. I asked if draw games could be run, and he said that he "thinks" 2-7 may not even be legal.

So as far I can tell; That's that. Unless someone wants to host a home game.

I guess if the itch comes on strong enough I might go play that 2-5 O8 game again. It was the softest Omaha game I've ever seen, so I've got that going for me... which is nice.

It doesn't look like we were going to have enough interest anyway

Thanks for trying and let me know if something comes together.

I would be happy to at least play a flop game mixed game if anyone else is ok with that

Omaha Hi
Omaha Hi/Lo
Hold'em
Pineapple
Crazy Pineapple

Like a 6-12 or 8-16 game. Or $2-$100 SL
