How did that poster get a room comped on only poker playing if they don’t give you tier points?
Sounds like an awkward system for poker players. Any chance they’ll change it? Someone said the other properties are like that I think

At Borgata, poker comps are transferred automatically to mlife. I have had some hiccups with timing though.

I forgot about borgata, they seem to be the exception. They were bought by MGM not built by them. I don't get why that difference matters but it seems to.

I heard they were stipulations when they bought Borgata

The collective grumble from the OMC regs would threaten the Borgata's structural integrity.

Once it's full, yes.

Oh... I have to say I don't think I have ever heard of a casino running out of parking.

Most places have numerous garages . Is the garage the same size as rainmaker at Foxwoods ?

Reportedly, 3500 car garage.

I doubt they'll have an issue long term, but you can't blame the locals for trying to capitalize on some extra income while they can.

I went Sunday, and passed a $20 lot on the way in, but there was plenty of free, open spaces on every level of the garage. This was around noon on opening weekend. I had a harder time leaving around 8pm though. Very long line at the parking garage elevators. I ended up walking out the valet doors and taking the stairs.

It folded all the way around to the BB and they still raked $2 out of his $5.

Trust me, you guys have it good up there and anyone who thinks $1/$2 isnt profitable under these conditions needs to get better at poker.
I know the room that you speak of so don't forget the $2 "preferred parking." Would it be fair to say that this is the juiciest room that you ever play in? Not one player is there for comps, not one player has an issue with rake, not one player has an issue with paying to chop. They are there simply to gambol is up!

Now to be fair, I'm not sure if you have any Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun experience but the 1/2 games up here are not comparable in any way, shape or form to those in any of the FL rooms I've played. If you're a winning 1/2 player in these rooms you'd be a 2/5 crusher down there. I actually know two who transitioned and are actually that. They still have it so so good in CT.

I don’t believe the room can’t be successful with a lower rake.
And 5+2 just really is a lot relative to the game size.
The rake hasn’t gone up true, but neither have the blinds. Thats an important factor.
I think its easy to think of this in likeness to inflation, but when the price of milk goes up, so does your paycheck (theoretically).
The blinds aren't as relevant when they have 200bb buyin's that make the rake more palatable.

The main problem with +2 jackpot rakes is when they go towards a difficult to hit Bad Beat jackpot instead of easily hit hourly high hands. With high hands you'll at least eventually get paid back what you put into the jackpot pool (and I think high hands attract more casual players than a bad beat jackpot)

Just wrapped up a very small session and have a few takeaways-

1. The poker room looks great and is a very comfortable place to play. Lots of TVs and chairs are super comfortable.
2. When you enter the poker room you are immediately drawn to the “Front Desk” where you are SUPPOSED to sign in but nobody was ever there. Had to track down the floor to get info on games.
3. The red cards (hearts and diamonds) are shaded in such a way that it almost blends in with the table...this is obnoxious, and believe me I’m the farthest thing from a poker snob there is.
4. There is no bet line and it makes cutting your chips out to count awkward.
5. Had some really fast dealers and some very slow and inexperienced dealers. I don’t think it will be long for the cream to rise to the top.

None of these things are deal breakers for me personally and just wanted to give my two cents.

Played here on opening night and will be playing here for the foreseeable future. I usually play 2/5 nl 2x a month, typically at Mohegan. The 2/5 here was very juicy, as an example, I had my stack in with KK on a J86 rainbow board and the caller had 99. He said, I knew you had Kings. I heard a lot of non regs commenting how close this casino was for them and saw several players asking what a chop was or not understanding live dynamics. I don’t see this a ton at 2/5 at Mohegan unless it’s a weekend night.

General room comments:
Chairs were comfortable but difficult to maneuver in and out as they easily get caught up in the wheels of other players
There is a self serve soda/coffee area. It looks great on opening weekend but it is going to be a mess within a few weeks. The room is carpet and you have one of those pick your own soda machines like you see at a Moe’s. That soda goes everywhere
I only had 1 bad dealer in a 5 hour session but you could tell his excitement to have the job and nervousness about wanting to do well. I’m happy for anyone that excited about their work.
The rake is the rake, I play 2x a month and I’m going where the game is weakest.
No Built in cup holders in the table. So you either needed a little rolling table near you or your drink was going on the table (in a cup holder that you could move). If you are playing with a decent number of chips your room to maneuver is limited.
The dealers and staff were very friendly. I’m sure that’s because it’s opening weekend but I haven’t seen friendliness like that at Mohegan in 10 years. And I never saw it at Foxwoods. The staff at Mohegan and Foxwoods are nice, but time takes a toll on every business.
Easy parking and a quick walk to the poker room.
The 2/5 game played like a 5/10. You couldn’t see a flop for less than $40. Post flop and turn bets were often in the $150-300 range. Playing with 200 bb starting stack is a different game than 100bb buy in.

Keep in mind that you also saw this at MGM.......on a weekend night. When I was there on Sat I recognized 5 players at every game from CT with 2+ pro's at every 2/5 and 5/10 game.

What's the parking like? In particular, what's the closest parking to the poker room?

I've gone the past three days at various times and never had a problem finding a spot in the free self park garage. The elevators take you directly into the casino, and because the place isn't huge, the poker room is a quick walk across the gaming floor.

Oh man, some old names/faces in this thread!

Used to be a Foxwoods/Mohegan weekly regular in the post Black Friday world, but have been a working stiff over the last 5+ years. I've been waiting with baited anticipation for MGM to open as I grew up in Northampton - even more of a reason to return home now!

Took the Amtrak train into the station and walked over on opening day (Friday) - I haven't spent much (any) time in Springfield since i worked there a decade ago, but it's definitely gone through quite the transformation/beautification.
Outside of the casino really fits into downtown, and the internal ambiance slightly mirrors it too.
I liked the casino room itself - 20-25 tables. They'll figure out the bumps when it comes to seating fairly soon. Each of the dealers I had (only played for 1-2 hrs) was experienced and fast, mentioned coming from other casinos for "better pay".
Deep buyins and mississippi straddle keep the smaller stakes games more fun.
So much bad play - presumably from all the new blood, take advantage of it while you can I would say.

Looking forward to making trips home more often and stopping by for an evening of play. JPsych, Lattimer, and co. from the old guard - I'll make sure to reach out next time I'm down! Maybe grab a bite or drink and catchup on life.

For those who don't believe promos drive traffic. Foxwoods has a $500 HH every 30 today. Number of tables as of 12:30pm:

Foxwoods - 37
Mohegan - 6
MGM - 6

MGM national harbor has way more tables than maryland live - and maryland live has better promos.
