The rake hasnít gone up true, but neither have the blinds. Thats an important factor.
I think its easy to think of this in likeness to inflation, but when the price of milk goes up, so does your paycheck (theoretically).
Yup. The simple fact is that eventually (if it hasn't already) 1/2 will be an unplayable game. But as you said, over time people make more money, so 2/5 will eventually become the new 1/2. I'm sure 20-30 years ago a 0.50/1 game with 2+0 rake would be great. But even at 4+0 that 0.50/1 game starts to become unplayable. Double those numbers and we're nearing that point now for 1/2.

This debate felt like deja vu, so I looked back and yup, Oct 1 last year in the Foxwoods thread when rake went up and comps came down, me you and others argued about this. So I'll just bow out now, no need to rehash the same old argument. Good points made on both sides, but we're not going to change each other's minds.

I don't believe the Springfield location is since there isn't a nearby Caesars competitor. I'm not confirming that though. Supposedly there is a list of eligible casinos available at the Rewards Desk. Many other MGM locations do though.

I remember that and totally agree.
I also agree with your first paragraph. Once the game sizes naturally go up this way, this issue wont matter. Until the next jump one day I guess.

Was good to be able to make these points on both sides

A friend of mine played strictly poker, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and received comp rooms last night and tonight. That’s good news

Are there doors to the outside sidewalk from inside the poker room?

Alright I think we get the point. The rake is higher than Mohegan, lower would be better, but it could be worse. It is what it is.
We now know what the rake is, let's move onto the room, the casino, the parking, the traffic, the staff, the promos, the comps, the player pool and other things that are more fluid.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Bad beat jackpot was hit last night, I believe at a 2/5 table. Quads beat by a straight flush. I thought I heard the jackpot was up to $3600 (up from $2500 when the room opened). I assume it will reset back to $2500. We were talking about it at the table and one OMC "guaranteed" that it will be hit once a week. I also heard more than one person asking at the front desk the details of the bad beat jackpot. I didn't think BBJ's attracted people to play poker in the poker room, but I guess it's a selling point. Seems kind of silly. But I guess there are people that play slots looking to hit a huge jackpot or that buy scratch tickets looking for the big one, so...

Better comparison is the price of milk vs the biggest expenses incurred by the room (taxes and labor).

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

If I read the string right, you earn 0 tier points for playing poker in MGM? Besides it being slightly closer and new, what is the attraction? If you play on a semi-regular basis in Foxwoods (at 6.8 tier points an hour) you will earn a Gold card and will be offered free rooms as well as choice and credit rewards. I'm just not seeing the reason to be heading there?

The bolded is based on the reward points earned, not tier points. The fact that you got Gold is irrelevant to the bolded comps. It sounds like this casino will work similarly, based on jpsychlady's post.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

There's a room near me that offers zero comps, you have to pay for water..and the rake is $5+$2. They take a $2 rake whether there's a flop or not. If you want to chop the blinds, no problem...but they are still raking $2. I once saw a hand where there was a dead small blind. It folded all the way around to the BB and they still raked $2 out of his $5.

Trust me, you guys have it good up there and anyone who thinks $1/$2 isnt profitable under these conditions needs to get better at poker.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

The most ridiculous thing is that the "comps" at the MGM poker room is on a completely different system than the MLife tier points. So let me take you on a journey to get a burger at MGM.

I asked the poker floor and was told that I had about 15 dollars worth of points. Wanted to buy a burger for $10. Went to the diner, ordered burger, handed them my card. "sorry, you have 0 pts". I said I just checked with the floor 5 mins ago and they said I have 15. They're like "nope".

So I go back to the floor, tell them what happened. They tell me to go talk to some guy in the corner. He has to go into the computer, "Transfer" 10 bucks worth of pts from the poker system to the mlife system. And then I go to the diner and get my burger.

I told them to transfer all the points over and they said unless I used the whole thing in 1 shot, I would lose the balance.

and not to mention that you get ZERO ZERO ZERO tier points for playing poker! hahahaha.

If I'm close by and just want to play for a few hours, i guess it doesn't really matter. if I'm planning on putting some hours in, foxwoods/mohegan is the way to go. i only play poker and have tiered up consistently there.

Last but not least, the slightly higher rake and the horrible dealers, truly truly horrible, makes going to MGM unbearable at this point. For such a place to put out such horrible quality in terms of dealers is ridiculous.

If i wanted to angle and flat out cheat, this is the place to do it. I don't feel like I'm getting a fair shake here unfortunately.

No thank you. back to CT I go.

Yup it's like that at all MGM properties.

That IS good news. MGM is quite a bit closer to me than Foxwoods/Mohegan but I still wouldn't mind the possibility of a room now and then.

I know the poker room is non-smoking. Please tell me the entire property, hotel included, is also non-smoking. This is actually a big deal for some of us

It is, except for a few designated outdoor areas. Even the parking garage is smoke free I believe! Sure makes it easier to walk around the place!

No smoking indoors throughout the property.

Answering a previous post...there is no exit in the poker room to go smoke.

Going to check out the poker room tonight. Any suggestions on where to park to be closest to the poker room? I’m not even sure there are parking options besides the garage but any info is greatly appreciated.

Garage is free. Every person with a patch of grass within a mile of the casino is offering $20 all day parking.

Thereís a room near me that makes you fill out a credit report, rakes $10 on the flop so if you donít get any callers you owe them money, they only serve bud lime and charge you for the water fountain.

So, you should be happy with the room near you.
