You're getting free alcohol for God's sakes. I dont know if the Indian casinos nearby offer that or not, but very few places do. Concentrate on the good things about the room....or dont play there. Sheesh!

Im guessing things are not that innocent. But anyway, isn’t the rake essentially determined by open market when there is competition?
I don’t want to argue about oil pricing, I think you understand my point.

Jesus! It’s shut up or don’t play here now?
Nobody is complaining or whining that its THAT bad. But you’re implying its not a valid point at all. Do you ever complain that maybe your dealer was too slow? the floor is not filling the seats? They wont let you run it twice? Should we tell you to just be happy because they’re plying you with booze, or other places are worse?

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

As others said, I can unequivocally confirm that rake is $5+$2 bonus (at $30). Absolutely brutal. Means you're paying 14% on a $50 pot.

Room was super nice. A few dealers were pretty incompetent...I had one that misread multiple hands (in hold em), announced I was all in when I made a $12 PF raise (with a $500 stack), exposed multiple cards, etc. Everything was crushingly slow, from the cage, to the dealers, to the floor, to the restaurants. One imagines these things will get better with time....

They don't have a tier match from Foxwoods to M life for their Noir. You may be able to work something out with a host.

For poker players who value comps, there's not much for you here. You get 2 comp points per hour, but no tier credits to advance player status.

I was there most of Saturday. It was open seating at 1/2 until about 2pm, then the list started filling up. The casino is beautiful, the room action was good. Booze is complimentary and they have a great selection of beers which they bring in the entire bottle which is pretty nice. It was insanely packed, so much so that the food court had security letting 1 in 1 out like a night club. I'm going to let the curiosity traffic die off before I return to explore more. The

First impression.....it's a nice change of scenery and I'll definitely mix it into my games, but it doesn't have enough to pull me from Foxwoods as a reg.

I am a FW Platinum and an Mlife Pearl from before. Any idea if the auto-upgrade is only for new Mlife members or will they change existing Mlife members?

Some else reported yes. But I was a little surprised to read it, as I thought that wasn't happening in MA.

I think I heard someone say they may run a high hand payout for a royal (or maybe other qualifiers as well) but I'm not entirely sure. Might just be a $2 drop for the BBJ.

I read somewhere that the tier match was one time only. If you earned pearl naturally, maybe they'll still match. Ask...the worst they can say is no.

I can confirm I had 3 Jamesons, 3 White Lion Lagers (local brewery mgm special), 2 Goose Island IPAs, and one other IPA that the waiter brought by accident. Oh, and 3 red bulls.....all free.

They serve until 4 am as well.

Yes found it on their website, it says 1 time only. That just means you can't keep doing it year after year. It's a 1 time courtesy to try to get you to start playing there instead of whatever other casino your status is from. Makes sense for them.

Their status period is 10/1-9/30. It'd be great if someone can find out if the matching going on right now is only good for 1 month or 13 months.

I read up on it a bit ago. There is a law about not giving free alcohol in Mass but the gaming law allows it. So you can only receive free alcohol on a gaming floor

$5+$2 rake is brutal? LOL. That's pretty standard in most parts of the Country and its a lot worse many other places.
I've been preaching this for years here Mike. Trust me, it mostly falls on deaf ears. We/They take our rake structure for granted but it is quickly changing to fall into the 5+2 norm. Springfield is there, the busiest New Hampshire room (Chasers) is there, etc.

You should hear the Foxwoods regs who have moved to Mohegan, they can't complain enough about the Woods going to 5+1 especially the OMC who never even paid attention or realized the deal they were given for all these years.

Is it possible people do realize how good they have it and would like to keep it that way??

Whats wrong with that?

I don’t ever remember personally hearing, not even one time anyone complain about the rake being $4- doesn’t seem like people taking it for granted

Complaining about it does not equate taking action. Players vote with their feet. If they don't like the rake they will go elsewhere if there is a better option so theoretically nobody should ever have to complain. If I wasn't two hours away I'd be here as it offers a button straddle which I take advantage most places I travel with the exception of the CT tribal rooms. When the other variables are factored (travel, rake, cost of room, etc) it doesn't make sense for me to play here. I don't ***** about it, I make the best choice for me.

I haven't been to a horse track in decades but the pari-mutuel takeout for each wager can be anywhere from 16-24% from my memory. It's the cost of doing business. Again, the only ones complaining are those from the 4+1 tribal rooms. The 5+2 folks everywhere else are accustomed to this cost which is becoming the norm in New England as well.

To each his own I guess
It's more like we understand that costs go up over time and we don't expect the rake to still be 4+1 50 years from now. I mean FW had it at 4+0 or 4+1 for over 20 years! That's way longer than anyone should realistically expect.

Action usually starts with “complaining”. And you said yourself people are voting with their feet then condemned them as “OMC who never even paid attention or realized the deal they were given for all these years”

And fees on your cable bill are this much and a tip for your meal is 15-20% and popcorn at the movies cost half of your movie price and - so what!
Following that argument- if 9 people are ripping you off, you should be ok with the tenth guy doing it

Nobody is ripping anyone off. You know the cost of the item, either purchase it or shop elsewhere. Complaining to each other does not affect change. If enough people shop elsewhere the business will fail, of course that isn't going to occur here. Your choice is to pay 5+2 at MGM or shop somewhere else, action is on you sir.

I can agree with this for the most part.
Keep in mind I’m just saying there is nothing wrong with trying keep things in the best interest of the players.
I don’t believe the room can’t be successful with a lower rake.
And 5+2 just really is a lot relative to the game size.
The rake hasn’t gone up true, but neither have the blinds. Thats an important factor.
I think its easy to think of this in likeness to inflation, but when the price of milk goes up, so does your paycheck (theoretically).

Ive already taken that action, and, of coarse “complaining” effects change.
You can call it complaining, we can call it debating. Countries have been founded from the seeds of “complaining”
This is a forum- a formate specifically existing in large to debate some ideas.
You are dismissing ideas you don’t agree with as complaining. We’re just talking out ideas here
