Ah cool. So some of the properties have finally integrated poker into the Mlife system. I know some properties still haven't done this (MGMNH in Maryland comes to mind).

When I said Borgata was the exception, I meant that that's the only MGM casino where your poker points earned there can be used anywhere. But, it seems I'm mistaken (per jjb's post), and my post only applies to some MGM properties but not others. So for Springfield specifically I have no clue, sorry.

I have to have separate cards for Borgata, MGM Vegas, and MGM Springfield - none of the other ones integrated when I swiped in at each of them

As with anything MGM Springfield related- their Twitter is the place to check. They have a sheet posted. They’re also pretty responsive for questions you tweet @ then.

Hi All,

Will be visiting MGM Springfield next month. Comped rooms, but is there anything to do in the area? Should I drive to Boston and check out Encore as well?

Any food recommendations?

Thanks,

Same question as above. Taking my wife, in-law and my 6 year old son to this MGM Springfield for comped rooms from NYC. What is here to do here besides poker? Any places fun/worthy to visit? Thanks.

A six year old might enjoy the Dr. Seuss museum that's right up the street from the casino.

There's not much for a minor to do at MGM Springfield. There's a movie theater that I've never checked out.

Basketball Hall of Fame for sure - Volleyball Hall of Fame is a town over in Holyoke

If you don't mind a bit of a drive - Atkins Farms Country Market and the Eric Carle Museum are a 30 minute drive (very easy, mostly highway), as well as downtown Northampton (which has lots of on-street parking/affordable garages).

Holyoke Mall (top-30 biggest mall in US) is a 15-minute drive from casino as well

Thanks,
Six Flags New England is only a few minutes away and pretty decent. They'll be doing their Fright Fest at that point, so be prepared for costumed scares. I didn't think their Haunted Houses were worth it, but haven't tried them in a few years.

I would add a plug for Mass MoCA (https://massmoca.org/), which is in North Adams, an hour and a half drive away. It's worth the trip, and it's a gorgeous drive in summer and fall. In winter, there's skiing at Wachusett Mountain, Mt. Snow, and Stratton, all within 2 hours' drive. In spring, well, **** spring, just stay inside.

For the little one, a short drive south to Hartford to explore the Connecticut science center could be worth it. Tons of things for kids that age there.

Thank you, everyone. Enough activities for the trip, I might not see or play with you, but my wife will handle the poker part (coz she doesn't drive)

Hey, not much discussion on this thread as other Casinos in the area, poker any good here or mostly lots of regs.

I've only played there twice other than opening day, both of those other times were on Saturday nights during "prime" time (like 8pm-midnight ish), and both times I only played $2/$5 and thought the tables were wayyy to reg-heavy to make me want to bother returning. Twin River has better action and Encore has better everything else.

I like the food court area near the poker room a lot, though

The 2/5 game sucks at MGM. It's the same few players and no fishes.

Don't play 2/5 at MGM, the 1/2 with a $500 cap is where the action is on a Saturday night. And it's plenty of action there. I never been on a weekday, so I can't attest to that.

That's interesting, good to know.

I have a feeling the $500 cap $2/$5 at Twin River would still have better action than the $500 cap $1/$2 at MGM Springfield. Maybe it's more or less a wash on Saturday nights, but Twin would win during the week.

For $1,000 cap games, the $5/$10 at Twin blows the $2/$5 at MGM out of the water for sure

Do they run 5/10 NL or PLO regularly here? At MGM National Harbor there was 5 card PLO.

Guy's the 2/5 game at MGM is doing just fine. Stop being such nits. It's a smaller player pool so you will find concentrations of "regs" at times. Such is life when moving up the stakes. There are plenty of nights where I'm looking around at 6-8 spots. 1k cap and 9-handed is the best in the area!

Yes 5/T goes a few nights a week and sometimes it's a mixed game with NL/PLO.

2/2 PLO also goes a few nights a week. A lot of straddles to $5 so it plays a bit bigger than advertised but not quite as big as 2/5 would play.

I would only assume that 1/2 must be doing even better. Never been there, but I have definitely more convienient drive up to MGM Springfield than I do to Twin Rivers/Foxwoods. Anyone have a clue what kind of traffic MGM attracts for a Saturday?

I'd love to do a study on the term "regs"......like what does this even mean when describing certain players at a table? Are they nits, TAG, crushers, small winners, breakeven or losing players? The term "reg" literally gives you zero information on the game. I know several "regs" who play MGM and can classify them individually into each category.

Having said that, I have never sat at a game here with close to 8 spots at a 2/5 game. Small sample though. Agreed on MGM being a real good game with 1k cap as well as Mohegan's now that they are back to 800 where they were for years.

I sat at 1/2 while waiting to be called for my 2/5 seat a couple Sat nights ago. I knew I'd be there awhile as I was in that no-mans land of being 5th (and last name) on the list. The 1/2 was so good with gambler action that I passed up my 2/5 seat when called an hour later. I hadn't done that in several years.

I find this interesting as well. Just cuz someone is a regular doesn't mean they are good at poker. I think that's one thing that scares off 1/2 players moving up to 2/5. They see the same regular faces sitting around and think just because these guys are here all the time that they must be good. I struggled with that when moving up myself. A lot of pros and coaches use the term reg to describe a good/winning player. I try to be more descriptive myself (good winning reg, bad fish reg etc).

The tourney series are run very well here. Much better than Mohegan for example which is god awful for tourneys. Very soft fields and often overlay which they arent shy about paying out.

Looks like they overlaid the first $50k by 50 players/$15k … why do they keep raising the buyin amount when they are not getting any players to show up? Seems like they should be lowering it to a $200 buyin w/50k Gtd and see what happens. Also probably pick a different weekend when Rivers in NY has a similar buyin for 2x the Gtd.
