Pot winner ended up at my table not long after once that table broke, and promptly bluffed off $400+ in his first or second hand at my table with second or third pair on the board into the nuts. Maybe a little tilt?

He'd only just sat at our table and was very ballsy. The hand which caused the stir, he shoved $400+ into a $200 pot with 99 on a T high flop. I've a feeling our Russian friend would probably have liked to have had his chips in play after all - not that he got to see the run out!

Holy crap, I was under impression this was a river decision, not a flop decision. Jesus! And wouldn't it be a kick in the pants if the Russian dude had the best hand? Getting yourself banned for costing yourself a big pot?

I've played with the pot winner before, as has a friend of mine. Described as a huge fish. As evidenced by bluffing middle pair (no kicker) into the nuts. And soon after that this occured:

Solid Mohegan reg to my left raises $15 otb, pot winner reraises to $65 from the bb, Mohegan reg reraises to $150, pot winner calls. Flop comes A Q 10 or some such and pot winner snap shoves for $350ish. Mohegan reg angrily mucks KK and shows, pot winner shows QJ off. Somehow got $150 in the middle preflop with queen high out of position and still manages to win the pot on an A high board.

Suffice it to say, he seems good for the game.

So do they use plastic straws there?
MGM Properties in Vegas got rid of completely having plastic straws so everything is served without them. Unless requested , they can offer a paper straw

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

I was wondering about that! There are no straws at any of the free soda dispensers. There are straws on the counter at the ó hang on I'm looking on the official casino map PDF to see what clever name this place has ó ahem, the Casino Walk-Up Bar. I suppose those might be paper?

FWIW, I'm sure it's just some bean counter's idea to save money that can be passed off as a "save the sea turtles" endeavor by corporate PR, but I find it actually rather classy. No kiddy lids either. It's almost like... we're adults!

On the other hand, a dealer told me that there's been ongoing chaos over proper Red Bull decanting as a band of gypsies has been seen smuggling out of the poker room up to a half dozens cans at a time.

Forgot that today was the start of the big E. It's a fair, which for some reason, draws like 80k people a day. It's just over the bridge in West Springfield.
I expect the poker room to be a bit slower during the days, but to get crazy after 10pm when the fair closes. Avoid showing up between 930-11 because traffic in the area may be horrendous. If you get there a little earlier, the games will be dope I think after 10.

FYI, MLife desk tier-matched my Total Rewards Platinum card, got upgraded to Pearl. Also for those who play video poker, 95% of them are at the bars. I found only 2 banks of multi-play machines on the casino floor. No nickel machines and the paytables are not great. Only 2 I checked were 6/5 Bonus Poker and 8/5 Double Double Bonus.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Made my first trip to this room and was reasonably impressed. Nice layout, good lighting, comfy seats and lots of TVs. The dealers I had were all quite good with one exception. My only ding on the room were the floors. In as much as it is a relatively small room it seemed that they were not that attentive to the dealers. Also there was an issue at my table with cards that seemed to have nail marks. The floor came over and spoke to the people at the table like a school teacher saying that someone doesn't know how to look at their cards. He could have handled it better. Also he could have gone to surveillance to see if they could tell who was doing it. All in all quite satisfactory trip but the floors need to get over themselves!! Also, you guys need to get rid of the gum chewing. Fist rule of retail is no gum!!

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

this is just a rant

I have refrained from posting my thoughts about this room on the forum for the past few weeks because i have a lot of respect for the professional dealers and casino staff that came from other casinos in the area and do an excellent job.

However some of the dealers here who are clearly new to the profession act as if its their job to put a show on for us with comedy bits aswell as INFLUENCING ACTION OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I almost don't blame the dealers themselves for this. They seem competent and willing to do a good job. Its as if they've been misinformed that they are the 11th player.

Ive seen a dealer say things like "decisions, decisions" to someone facing a river bet.

Ive seen a dealer say "why not, never know whats coming" to a guy mulling over a preflop decision.

Ive seen a dealer say to a person who was posting "why dont you just straddle"

One dealer told me personally "waters warm" to a preflop $7 multiway spot to which i folded out of spite!

I saw two remaining players decide to chop a multiway hand on the turn and muck their cards to which the dealer correctly said "you cant do that here". So naturally they both pulled two TOTALLY different cards out of the muck and the hand played out. It seemed nobody at the table could care less that this happened.

Ive seen languages other than english be allowed at my table for whole sessions.

Once the board ran out 4567K on an all in. One player showed a set of sixes at showdown. The other player looked back at his hole cards and read the board. A third player who was out of the hand said "Do YOU HAVE A SPADE?" To which the dealer replied "Or an EIGHT OR A THREE".

All of this in only about a 30 hour sample size

It seems like a lot of the player pool here are unfamiliar with poker in casinos and don't see any of these things as issues. I REALLY WANT THIS TO BE A GOOD PLACE TO PLAY POKER. Am i expecting too much from a new room? Am I just spoiled by the dealers at Mohegan Sun? Should I just sit back and be happy that this room is lax and so casual player friendly? I dunno.

Also two sessions in a row the same woman at the cage shorted me $100 on her count so make sure you know how much money you should be getting cashing out.

And YES the cards get cut CONSTANTLY

IME this is pretty accurate, though you might be running a little hot. I do believe dealers should basically be robots, but I also think it does help the game a little. A chatty, friendly, stupid game is a good game. I play 1/2 though, where players are so bad this prolly doesn't matter too much. I might feel different if I played a bigger game.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

A dealer mistake that happened to me... Didn't bother me but I can see it pissing off a lot of people
Heads up pot I bet $40 on flop, short stack shoves for $45 total, I call.
Board runs out, I have king high, other player quickly shows pocket jacks, and I muck face down.
I then see my hand get tabled by the dealer for 3-4 seconds, before he puts it back in the muck.
I ask "why was my hand tabled? Did another player ask for my hand to be shown?"
His response was "Sorry I misread your hand... I thought you had a nine" (two nines on flop)
Me "I mucked face down what do you mean you misread my hand"
Dealer "Sorry"
Me "I dont care that my hand was shown I'm just confused, you looked at my hand after I mucked"
Dealer "Yes, I looked at your hand, thought you had a 9 and tabled it"
Me "Alright.... what if you tabled my hand and I had a 9.. would you have pushed me the pot? That wouldn't make any sense"
Dealer "Oh no way, you mucked"

So which one is it?
This a pretty bipolar post.
You believe dealers should be robots.
You also think it helps the game.
You might feel completely different if youíre playing bigger stakes!

So you want them as robots, but you want them chatty, friendly to help the game, BUT, now if you move up to 10/20NL you may or may not feel different.

Per Wizard of Odds site, both are appx 97% payout with optimal strategy. Definitely not beatable, but better than virtually all slot machines if you're looking to use up some Freeplay.

Umm, I don't think there are any technically "beatable" video poker machines left in any casinos. About 15 years ago, the first time I went to Vegas, there were a few that paid 100.something% downtown, but I'm pretty sure those have all been removed. I've never even seen (or read about) positive payoff ones anywhere else since then.

At a few places they may be beatable if you count freeplay you get back after playing, but now in downtown Vegas even the machines I have seen that payback 99.7% or so have signs saying that you don't earn points for playing them.

Hmm, Wizard Of Odds says that returns 1.000670, which would be a profit of 6.7 cents for each $100 bet. So, yeah, I guess it's a positive EV, but you certainly won't get rich playing!

What I prefer might not always be best for the game. What's best for the game might not always be most fair to every body involved in a particular hand.

I do not tend to look at things as either bad or good, but generally a combination of the two depending on goals and perspective. I see little utility in such concrete thinking.
