91 northbound is closed at Exit 3. All traffic is being rerouted 2 Columbus Ave which takes you right up to the casino. Expect about an extra 10 minutes or so

It's a stupid rule, but having dealers applying the rules inconsistently is just going to cause problems.

Players expecting comps is silly too. It’s nice, but really?

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Has anyone noticed that they're taking $1 out of every hand for a non-existant High Hand Jackpot? Yup, they take $1 for a Bad Beat Jackpot which is in effect and another $1 for a future high hand jackpot which the dealer told me will be implemented when they reach $10,000 in seed money harvested from the players. This can't be right but the money is definately being collected.

They will start paying it out once things slow down enough to warrant doing high hand promotions - how would it not be legal? Seems smart to get some seed money in while things are busy, sometimes you'll set up promos for the month and not get the turnout you expect - which is why some seed money is nice as it creates a buffer in those months

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Seed money should have been fronted by MGM themselves, and receive back once the promo fund meets a certain number. Say ~250K

The house could have easily afforded 25K upfront for promotions.

Sure they could "afford" it but they didn't deem it necessary as they expected the room to be full spread (or close to it) for the first several month. This is a public company and they are extremely bottom line numbers driven.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

I did overhear a guy last night saying to his buddy at my table that he's gotten quad aces and would have gotten high hand if there was a high hand. But he'd won a substantial pot so he wasn't too upset.

The 1/2 games I played in were amazingly good, by the way. I got aces cracked twice, once by 24 and once by 83, after villains called 6x pre-flop raises and then shoved their combo-draws on the flop. And I ran into a pretty nasty BvB cooler after trying to steal with T7o and the board came J98r and "crazy-gambler"-imaged villain had flopped the better straight. None of these people had bought in full, thankfully, so I still walked out of there on a Friday night after ~7 hours stuck all of $20 or so. I'd been rounding between Foxwoods, Twin River, and Boston Billiards in Nashua a lot last year and I'd never seen so many good spots.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Comps conundrum.

I had $15 transferred to express comps for dinner. Order a hot buttered lobster roll and a bag of chips total 1850. Go to pay with my card prepared to pay the difference in cash, register dude says there is a discount applied and no difference to pay. Anybody have any idea what this discount is? I checked Express comps and there was Zero left. I'd like to know the exact discount so I can nit fully.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

What PLO games run there?

Blinds?

Min/Max Buy-in?

Also, overall, what skill level are the poker players there? (No limit, etc...) You think its gonna be mostly college kids?

A single 2/2 PLO table has been running just about every day.

The room is not population dominated by college age players.

There are a lot of western Mass locals that have come out of the region's underground rooms - causing the two most heavily played local rooms to close up shop.

Does the 2-2 PLO game play bigger than the 2/5 PLO at foxwoods? What do people usually buy in for? Is it a crazy game?

I donít see why it would. Itís 1/2 of what a 2/5 game is. The 2/5 at FW plays pretty big

Absolutely shocked this would happen in a nice town like Springfield:

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

Played here Sunday and found it to be pretty well run for a new casino:

-1/2 game was about average difficulty on a Sunday afternoon/evening. Only saw one other player of about 25 that sat/rotated through that bought in for the $500 max and one other than bought in for $400. $100 min is nice, but most players bought in for $300. It seems that the game should be $1/3 like MGM NH or could go to a $300 max.
-With one exception, dealers were solid. Better than expected for a new casino. Floors seemed to be running things well also.
-Red felt is a minor annoyance, but not worth fixing
-Freely available soda and coffee is a big plus
-Poker room was relatively easy to find
-$5+2 rake is unfortunately the standard with newer casinos in the Northeast.

Re: MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)

There was a guy at the table behind me that ended up being forcibly removed from the room in handcuffs by security and state police last night. From what I can tell, a player moved all in on the river, he tossed in a chip to call, then once cards were shown, he refused to pay and said he never called. He became louder and more belligerent the more the floors talked to him until, eventually, security and police showed up and he was removed. After taking him to the back, we saw a security guy talking to the floor holding one of his shoes. It was something else.

Exactly the reason the 1 chip call is a horrific idea. Also the reason that at MGM NH (and MGM Springfield). We want players to make the pot right.

Do you need one of those M-Life cards to play?

Also, are there really phone chargers on the table? (Any rules against playing cell phone games while playing?)

No need for a card to play.

Phone chargers for every seat at the table, and they charge pretty quickly.

You can't be talking on your phone while in a hand, and some dealers will tell you to be off your phone entirely while in a hand, but otherwise, you can play games, text, whatever. I play words with friends a lot to pass the time, because I can also easily pay attention to most of what's going on, even if it looks like I'm not...

I'm really not sure if it was a one chip call situation, or he verbally said "call" and then the guy immediately tabled his hand before the dealer could get the pot right and then he tried denying it. I could only hear him shouting louder and louder in a (drunk) European accent, "I NO CALL ALL IN!"

I know the MA gaming regulations require the dealers to make the pot right first, but if someone verbally says call and the guy with the nuts gets too excited and tables right away, I'm not sure what you can do to make him pay if he refuses. Just do what they did, drag him out and ban him. I'm not sure how the pot was resolved.

The lesson here is, since the room requirement is to make sure the pot is right, if someone verbally says call, make sure their money is IN the pot before tabling. Easier said than done sometimes, I know...

I was at the table when it happened. He said "call" cut out chips, placed them in front if his cards. No cards were tabled, but he changed his mind and disputed that he called (everyone at the table agreed he did), he then pulled his chips back and refused to put them in. Floor was called he was told to put the chips back, but he mucked his cards and said "no call, mother bleep". Supervisor called, asked him if he was refusing to put his chips back, he said "yes". Security called and he was carted off. Pot winner was not awarded his chips but the casino has them and said they'd forward him any money due once investigation complete. Pot winner was not happy.
