25K guarantee tournament this past weekend had close to 200 entries, I think between 70-75 Friday and the rest Saturday.

Edit* I just noticed there are 3 starting flights. Prizepool may get close to $100k this weekend but based on prior events I'd guess it tops out around $75-80k.

Was passing through the area today and had a chance to check the place out. Not bad. Played a few hours of $1/$2 no limit and didn't have to wait that long to get in a game. They were spreading $2/$2 PLO and $3/$6 limit as well. Didn't see any issues with cocktail waitresses either (guessing it's a lot different on the weekend). They came around often and the players that ordered drinks got them in a timely manner. For teetotalers like myself the coke freestyle self service machine is an awesome amenity.

I thought the table I was at was pretty tough; seemed to be a lot of regs and quite a few pots not even going to a flop, much less a showdown. Tight but players weren't shy about putting in bets/raises when the situation warranted. But I got out of there with a $64 win so I'll take it. One thing I did like was when there was an all-in with cards to come both players tabled their hands immediately instead of waiting until after the river. Good to see.

So mostly positive experience. One minor issue was that the USB plug-ins didn't seem to work too well. I couldn't get mine to stay in the slot and another player at the table ended up using one at an empty table nearby to charge his phone.

MGM last month in cash games struggled hard on the weekends as they ran tourneys all month and no promos. But they've bounced back today with a promo for August and seems like they'll be fine going forward post encore.

You have come to this conclusion based on 1 day. MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)
They’re running 10 different promos and they’re still in last place.

I'll take the 18 tables running at MGM over the 26 running at foxwoods. All about the clientele.

That has nothing to do with your original, baseless post

Ummm. When the room goes from running 10 cash games on the weekend to what it was doing pre July, then I think it isn't a baseless post. Encores effect isn't hitting MGM. July was just because of lack of promos. But whatever. No point in arguing with a know it all.

I’m not the one making a claim about the long term viability of a poker room based on ONE day. A day that has them running more promos than all of their competitors combined and they’re still in last place.
You’re clearly the one who thinks he knows it all. Kinda like Kaepernick and his $100 mil

I'm visiting NE and have played MGM 3 times in the last couple weeks, 1/2 NLHE cash, all mid-afternoon, a Thursday, a Monday and a Saturday. All three times I've cashed out between 2x and 4x my buy-in, after 1 to 2 hours of play. It's a small sample, but certainly leads me to believe that the games are no nitfest. Actually, I did have a bad table once - my first table on this Saturday during promo time. I had to switch away from it to another table.

Here is a hand that stands out - one that I wasn't in. Three players to the flop after a pre-flop raise to 12 by overly aggressive player in EP. Flop is QJ4, two hearts. EP bets 15, button calls, other player folds. Next card is a deuce. EP checks, button bets 25, EP raises to 75, button re-raises to 475, EP goes all-in for about 15 more. River is another 4, no heart. Button says "I have a jack"; EP says "what's your kicker"; button shows K-J offsuit; EP mucks.

I'm returning.

Myeh - went for the first time this past weekend - very blah. I mean if you live in Hartford ct area or western mass then sure it’s a great option but ****ty area, some undesirable table mates (some of which works to your favor obviously) , and I mean generally speaking, it’s just on par with all these other rooms in New England doing 15-30 tables on the weekend. I mean you basically have to play Friday or Saturday night during prime time and then still table select for it to be “really good” or “good” action. For me it’s a cool option when visiting in-laws in Hartford (kinda like twin river when I’m in Rhode Island beaches on vacation into the summer) but I mean it’s not worth a special trip there (3+ hours)in my opinion. If you are a New England grinder who is centrally located fairly equidistant from all the rooms I guess it’s nice to have in the rotation but def not a draw for someone like me.

In general, for me location is it’s number one asset if you are from CT or anywhere 40 miles west of Boston- I think any closer to Boston and it’s encore for any serious rec or amateur

I hope it does well but it’s a fact that they were killed in July(I think mgm was the hardest hit by Encore)
If you need to be running multiple, expensive promos all the time just to get less tables than every other room then I think it’s going to be a steep uphill battle

Theres a large player base at Springfield that plays rivers and resorts world as well. And MGM is exceeding those rooms. It'll do just fine.

This is a weird question but I'm wondering if the poker points that you earn at MGM Springfield can be used at MGM properties in Vegas. I have $70 from Springfield. Does that mean I can use those $70 at any MGM property?

AFAIK, the reverse is true, so I think you are good to go. Have a safe trip.

At MGM properties I don't think poker points can be used at other casinos, because they're tracked independently from your Mlife points (earned from slots, tables, etc). I think Borgata is the only exception to this, you can use those poker points anywhere.

Ugh this is what I was afraid of. So my $70 can only be used at Springfield and Borgata? Well I'm going to AC this Sunday so maybe I'll hit up the Borgata buffet.
