People have been saying it's the shuffler for ages, but I highly doubt it. These markings are typically from people peeking at their cards while having a chip on top as a card protector, which makes the dent. They don't even realize they're doing it.
That said, it's
unintentional marking in the vast majority of cases, but just in case it's worth looking for patterns - do high- or low-ranking cards tend to be marked more than others? If so, it might be intentional.
