This is something I always remind people of. I'm sure 99.9999% of people are just doing small talk but I always say I got my butt kicked and I lost it all

Someone else recommended to me to cash out in large denomination chips. It's much easier to hide a pumpkin on you somewhere then $1k in cash

Is anyone concerned with the condition of the decks they use at MGMNH? Was playing last night and one of the decks was horribly marked up. One player mentioned it to the dealer who claimed that it was only on the front of the cards due to the shuffler, though marks were clearly visible on the backs too. This was basically laughed off as the room getting full use out of each deck.

I think the chances of someone trying to take advantage of this was close to zero at this particular table but it seems the opportunity was at least there.

People have been saying it's the shuffler for ages, but I highly doubt it. These markings are typically from people peeking at their cards while having a chip on top as a card protector, which makes the dent. They don't even realize they're doing it.

That said, it's unintentional marking in the vast majority of cases, but just in case it's worth looking for patterns - do high- or low-ranking cards tend to be marked more than others? If so, it might be intentional.

My metric is if I can see the marking from a few feet away then I simply notify the dealer. They've replaced the card every time. I've never had them veto the card replacement yet.

They could also start running a microfiber cloth through the shufflers every X hours though. The dirt makings can get ridiculous.

Played at MD Live (table sample size = 2) last night and the shuffler damage was worse than anything I had seen at any MGM game FWIW, but they also replaced the cards I pointed out without issue.

Top 5 hour earners get entry to the $3000 main event. Pretty cool that management is taking $15,000 of the promo money, and giving it away to encourage pros to play even more often (and also taking $1500 in rake for themselves), and also making the $3000 main’s competition stiffer.

These types of promos are worse than if the casino just outright stole the money. I will absolutely not be frequenting MGM NH this month.

Management really needs to read Mason Malmuth’s most recent book, it goes into exactly why this type of promo is bad for casinos and players alike, but pretty much par for the course since johnny grooms left.

What’s wrong with rewarding the most loyal customers with a little rake back once in a while?

They do this every summer when I looked.

I do think the promo would be better with a leaderboard.

I feel like this question is rhetorical, but i do in fact have an answer for you. Here is Mason Malmuth explaining whats wrong with it (starts about 18 minutes in) from his book Cardrooms: Everything Bad and How to Make Them Better: An Analysis of Those Areas Where Poker Rooms Need Improvement

Heading down to DC from NY as part of a trip/vacation. I will have time to play here for the first time.

What should I expect? 1/3 will be new to me. Usually play at Foxwoods, which still spreads 1/2 only.

Waitlist concerns? Safety concerns? General thoughts?

Thanks!

1/3 is available 24-7 and is usually good. You might get a tight table occasionally if so just go to the front desk and ask for a table change. There are many tables going. There will likely be high hand promotions going so if you happen to get aces full or better using both cards remember to show it even if everyone folds. I have never worried about safety there but like anywhere else I pay attention to my surroundings in parking garage etc, you will be fine. Waitlist usually moves quickly unless you come at a very peak time but even then not usually too bad. You can always check bravo to see what it is. Good luck.

Good news for MGM NH patrons, the crab shack in the food court is being relocated to the other side of the chicken shop and in its place they're opening a 24/7 diner -- hats off to whoever approved this, it's exactly what the casino's culinary scene needed!

Yes thank God. I don't know how many times I've gone to the pizza place just a tad late and the only thing open is the Vietnamese place. Welcome addition

What's the easiest place to get a quick high-protein healthy meal? I usually do a lettuce-wrapped burger from shake shack but that's too greasy for me these days.

Or Honey's grilled chicken cobb salad. If you don't mind waiting a bit the salmon at tap is a huge favorite among the regs.

It is not consistent but it can be that cold. Especially if you are under a vent.

I thinking of filling as a professional gambler next year.

I have lots of questions as to how to do it and what filings (monthly/quarterly) for my state, Virginia.

Can someone recommend a gambling tax accountant in northern Virginia?

Thx
