The best procedure is substituting the hand sanitizer for the dealer button

Re: MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino (Oxon Hill, MD); FAQ in OP

I will be wearing a mask whether or not it is required. But I strongly encourage MGM to require them and provide them for those who do not have one. A large portion of the player pool is made up of retirees at higher risk of death if they contract the virus; we should make the poker room a safe(r) place for them to pass the time if they so choose.

And to appeal to the baser motives: retirees are some of the softest targets, so you have an economic interest in getting them to the poker room.

And MGM's financial self-interest is tied up in all this. If it does not require masks and someone becomes infected/traced to MGM, MGM could be liable for not adhering to strict containment measures. The fact that other recently-opened casinos are requiring masks is certainly a signal that the industry standard of care is to require masks and not following their lead would indicate a breach of duty.

Plus, keeping them alive keeps their money in play.

Final warning. Keep this thread specific to casino information. No coronavirus morality arguments, no PSAs, etc. We have 2 coronavirus threads in CCP (1 poker-related, 1 other), use those. I'm going to start issuing temp-bans for further violations. This applies to everyone, but specifically DCJ, Dumbo, and bruce. And if you have a problem with this, take it to the Moderation Discussion thread in CCP, no comments on it here.

So if you get a bad/slow dealer you have to leave for an hour then come back to try to get a better table?

Businesses having many of something completely unproven does not make the “apparently effective”. We have no evidence plexiglass does anything at a poker table. Not because it won’t work but simply because we have zero evidence, none nada, nothing.

They ar3 in many places simply do to herd mentality.

I thought the barriers were recommended by the state Gaming Commission, which surely had some basis for recommending them, no? (Although I must be honest, I am not aware of the details here.)

Don't take the above as suggesting that these measures will be effective at preventing the spread of the virus. I agree that's yet to be seen. Opening at all is undoubtedly a substantial risk, but if a casino is going to open this early, it might as well err on the side of caution when the stakes couldn't be higher (pun accidental).

I won't be playing at MGM when they open. I can already see that the amount of complaining that will be going on will be way to annoying for me to handle.

No idea sorry - also I guess I should not comment further because my comment was actually moved to the MD Live thread even though I intended it to be a comparative comment vs what MGMNH is doing.

Um, yeah. Their safety plan was posted ITT 3 weeks ago. This isn't news to anyone.

No plan to reopen live poker as part of the initial reopening - pending advice from individual states and then they will determine if its safe to open.

Its nineteen pages - so here's the link to the full report if you are so inclined:

The PDF says:
Quote:
Guests will be strongly encouraged to wear masks in all public areas. Guests may be required to wear masks when appropriate physical distancing or barriers cannot be maintained.

Re: MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino (Oxon Hill, MD); FAQ in OP

I see, you were questioning the omission of details. Of course the PDF directly from the casino is going to contain a lot more details than some news article, especially one that's covering multiple casinos and trying to keep the article succinct.

We had a huge issue around here the past week when news reports said Foxwoods was only allowing CT/RI residents. It was clear on the Foxwoods website that all were welcome, they were just only marketing offers to CT/RI folk. But that misinformation caused a lot of rage among MA/NY residents looking to go.

It's frustrating when the news leaves out key details. Always trust the direct source over a second-hand one.

Different owner, different state.

One casino opening has little to do with the other casino opening.

NJ is saying AC casinos will likely open by July 4 and I believe NJ is overall worse off than MD in terms of COVID. No info on MD but a data point. And of course who knows about poker. I personally wish Laurel Park would open, would be a perfect day for some outdoor time and some exactas. Can watch and wager on TV but not the same so I do not partake .

Casinos are much more important to AC than MGM is to DC, especially in the summer. PG County isn't even going into Phase 2 until June 15th, Northern VA will likely go into Phase 2 that same week. The casino shouldn't open until Phase 3, which would probably be at least two weeks after Phase 2.

Which winds up effectively being July 4th.

Right, someone implied MGM could open before AC, looks like same time at best

Is there a comprehensive place to check what's open and what's still closed? A lot of the casino websites are not updated and their twitter/FB still has posts from March even though the news says they're opening...

There's a thread in CCP that has a list of open poker rooms in the OP. It may not be complete/up to date though, dinesh and I get to it when we can. It doesn't include casinos that are open but no poker yet.
