You are not required to be there if/when they open.

That's true, but you know that if they do open, people are gonna be there, and that will probably contribute to extending the pandemic even longer.

Of course it will. Some people will think, if the casino is open, everything must be okay.

But everything will not be okay.

Degens arenít going to let a virus keep them away. If the doors open, people will be there.

So Gov Hogan was on the Junks yesterday and he was asked when you reopen state businesses. Pretty sure his response was you want the number of cases to be declining for 15 straight days. I will go back and listen but I am pretty sure that was his response.

I was in the Bike in an earthquake once, many years ago. Power goes out. Guy next to me looks at the dealer and says "next hand."

jac is dead right on this one

That should mean a good target date is May 1st.

Curves in China and Italy started to decline about a month after the first case. Since it got started early March in the US that means hopefully by mid April it will be on the decline. 15 days from there puts us around May 1. Wynn and another Vegas casino already announced they're shooting for May 1st as a reopen date. Hopefully we do the right thing and shut down the country properly between now and May 1st so this thing truly gets suppressed by then.

MGM CEO was on CNBC this afternoon, interview was brutal. Stock is down 70% this year. They've laid off 60k out of 68k employees in the US. He was trying to put a good spin on it, saying how their MGM2020 program postured them to lay them off really quickly - presumably to qualify them for unemployment? Just depressing.

Makes me wonder when they "open" back up - how quickly can you rehire all those folks? Just a sad depressing interview all around.

Iím really worried about Las Vegas. Itís going to be a good long while until international travel ramps up which is going to destroy them. It could take years for Vegas to bounce back to the 17 million visitors a year they are used to. I think we are going to see the big companies broken up and some lower end places not opening back up.

Donít think there are going to be many people turning down full time employment for 4 months of unemployment.

Then you don't know people. Keep in mind a lot of them will be making close to double what they normally make by being unemployed, and it's not like there is ever a shortage of similar low wage jobs to find when their unemployment period is over.

Where did you get the number $900? I just did a quick web search, and in the state of Maryland, the maximum you can get per week is $430.

Are you unaware of the unemployment benefits included in the stimulus bill passed last week?

I was unaware. I am still working (from home), and am lucky enough to have never had to worry about unemployment. Isn't there some sort of requirement to show that you are looking for a job in order to collect unemployment? So when the casinos open back up again, would a furloughed casino employee have to show they still can't get a job?

Technically yes, in practice no. Under normal circumstances, nearly all people who claim unemployment are committing fraud. People get paid to "look" for jobs not find them.

If in a month or two casinos start hiring back their staff, I would be shocked if a casino worker turned down getting their job back only to receive one more month of expanded unemployment. Itís going to be a non issue.

So you think lots of people will stay at home for the next few months instead of going to a casino? GREAT!!! That's exactly what we need to have more people survive this virus.

But man, I am very much missing the fun of going to a casino. And the fun of going out to do anything. I will try to be patient and wait for this to pass. I guess it won't be easy for any of us.
