This was a more friendly version of what I was going to say. If I drove 90 minutes to play poker and was less than one table from playing, I would be sitting in a chair right next to the brush or at the very least where I knew I could hear.

Hell I do that now and I'm less than 15 minutes away.

It would be nice if the text system worked so you could be texted when your name came up. But since it doesnt seem to really work - I never leave the area when I know I could be called.

I made a long thought out response to try and make the Poker room better. Your response to me however doesn’t do anyone any good. Do you really think mgm wants the waiting players filling up the Poker room or playing slots? Even if I made a massive error that doesn’t make any of the other mistakes they made right.

"I went and got some food and came back after 30min and checked the list. I was now around ~10th on both lists. I went and gambled for a little while and came back. I was now no longer on the list. I asked another floor guy who was now running the podium if they called my name and he said “yes”. I explained to him what I told the other floor and I drove an hour and a half to play and waited for an hour and if he could help me."

Any "mistakes" they made were done trying to accommodate you after you walked away and went to gamble elsewhere and missed being called.

In this case they clearly could have told you "no" and moved onto the rest of their list and been well within their rights to do so. Instead they offered to bump you up to 5th, which wasnt even good enough for you.

"He told me “I can put you 5th” that’s when I told him how long I’ve been waiting and he said “5th or last” and I said “if that’s the attitude I have other options of going home and never coming back”.

A good answer there would have been "5th would be great, thanks, sorry for walking away from the room and going to gamble when I was close to being called."

I have had my fair share of issues with the room but the floors deal extremely efficiently with 99% of the ridiculous garbage that gets thrown on their plates. This to me is a perfect example where "the customer is always right" is a load of crap.

Doesn't do anyone any good?

You left the area, weren't there when your name was called. You pestered the floor and got yourself an offer to be put in 5th place. Your response was how long you've been waiting.

Do you think the guys after you HAVEN'T ALSO BEEN WAITING A LONG ASS TIME???

If the guy in 5th (now 6th) is sitting there waiting his turn while you want off to scratch your gambling itch, now he's gotten screwed because it's all YOU YOU YOU.

Then you whine and ***** more and get bumped to the front of the line - now 4 more guys are screwed. Cause YOU COULDN'T WAIT AROUND THE STAND.

No - my good sir - my post does **YOU** no good. It does the 5 people on top of the list and the 20+ people behind them who also GOT CUT IN LINE BY A WHINY BABY who didn't wait around and couldn't accept responsibility some good, I hope, by making JD realize that the policy **SHOULD** be that if you miss your place in line, TOUGH NOOGIES!!!

JG,

With the planned move less than two months away, would this be a good time to ask the management about the poker comps? They have a working system in vegas and other MGM sister locations. Implementing something similar need not be a “reinventing the wheel” concept.

Also, you have been operational for more than a year now!

I ask every month at our meeting reserved for new projects. All I can tell you is that it is ongoing.

JG I heard a fairly decent whopper of a rumor that in addition to the expansion of the poker room upstairs that there was going to be casino expansion of some kind as well upstairs. Seemed like a pretty solid load of BS to me except for the person it came from is usually pretty reliable.

Though I disagree with the hostile language/tone of this post, I agree with the overall sentiment. IME they give people more than enough time to answer their call for a seat. If you're not there, that's on you. If you were on the opposite side of the situation and you were waiting patiently for a seat, the guy in front of you missed his call 10 minutes ago, and the floor tossed his name back on the list right above you, you'd without a doubt be upset.

You said it yourself...
Quote:
The lists are so long people put their names on 4+ lists and then it takes way too long for the floor to call the list because the majority of the players on the list are already playing or otherwise absent.

It was mentioned a while back that there would be at least Baccarat up there in addition to poker. I don't remember the source of that but it would make sense if they have the room and the demand for more pit games.

Without going into specifics, there will be more than poker in the expansion.

Feel free to delete if this is some sort of spoiler but I heard there will be a Racebook up there with a dedicated bar. I'd imagine if/when sports betting is legalized in Maryland the Sportsbook would also go up there somewhere too.

Can't +1 this enough.

Excited to see the new room though and having a sports book would be great addition to the other types of casino games.

+1+1+1+1+1+1+1...... I have to turn my hearing aids off when I'm in a tournament because the slot machines are so loud and the hearing aids attenuate the bells and chimes. I've considered filing an ADA lawsuit claiming that the noise is making it impossible for me to think clearly and because I have to turn them off makes it difficult for me to hear, but I realize that would be a waste of time. At the very least perhaps they could consider some kind of soundproofing? Hell, a set of thick curtains floor-to-ceiling would mask most of the noise.

Regardless, I'll wait and see what the new room offers for improvements - I can't imagine it's worse.

Sports betting isn’t legal here, so no sports book. Hopefully it gets passed next legislative session.

I like the current room but the slot noise is a big negative. Will the safe deposit boxes also move?

I'd love to take that Austin Powers slot machine to a field and go all Office Space on it. Not sure how anyone possibly enjoys that.

Having a space for a future sports book would be awesome. Nothing better for a poker room than a bunch of guys who have big bets on the game sitting to kill some time.

Don't kill me for asking this question (because I assume it's common knowledge), but remind me where the new room is going to be located upstairs? I had understood that the elevator/escalator would be near the entrance to the casino but I may be completely wrong about that. Thanks!

JG, what is going to happen to the safety deposit boxes? Asking for those of us who will be in Las Vegas for a while. We have to move the contents ourselves right? But what if we're not here to do so?

Someone suggested emptying the contents before leaving town and taking everything home but I'm wondering if you have a better solution.

Thanks.

Did you even read my story? When I was placed on the table there were three open seats and continued to be three open seats. There were fewer players on the list that wanted to play than seats so no one should have had to wait for a seat.

The SDBs will move. If you haven’t already, you will need to go to the cage and move your box to a different number. We are taking one of the banks up there and all boxes need to be cleared from that bank. I think you will be able to move the contents after returning from series. You should be getting a call or a letter from the cage soon.

I can’t get too specific, but it will be upstairs, and all the elevators from the parking garage will be very close to the upstairs casino/poker room. There is also and escalator and elevator that will go up from the casino floor.

Sure - probably cause 3 other jagoffs wandered away from the brush, had been called, and the brush was giving them time to respond.

None of which changes the fact that you left the brush, missed your name call, then cried enough to get the floor to cut you in line ahead of the ppl who were being patient in the first place waiting their turn.
