I've wondered the same thing and I assumed it's at least partly to pay the $300 celebrity bounty. I don't like it, especially since most players will have no shot at winning it.

The $250 of the $300 bounty is put up by the casino. The remaining $50 comes from the the entry, just as with every other player.

It's played as 5/5/10 98% of the time or more, but it really hurts the game when you have the rare player that refuses to straddle (I don't think ANY regular refuses straddle). When you do have someone who won't straddle, they get dirty looks and rude comments (arguably righteously so). In this particular game (can't say the same for NLHE), your point about manipulating the game to isolate weak players NEVER happens. Plus, 1/2 with a 5 bring-in is only a little smaller than 5/5 without a straddle.

I think if you were to poll the 5/5 PLO players about this, I don't think a single person would vote "no."
I can only play 1-2x a month but I would vote no. First of all, I've rarely seen a guy refuse to straddle but yeah there have been occasionally. Just as there are guys who dont want to do a time drop flop, play with the $20 rocks...or whatever. I've got no problem with those guys speaking up and I dont look down on them at all.

My main reason? Honestly the game has such a hard time going off lately (the last several months) that I dont want to do anything to discourage people from playing. I'd rather have a few guys out there who will occasionally play but wont straddle than eliminate them completely from the player pool. Its the same reason I wont say one word to them about not straddling and will usually go out of my way to be nice to them. I waited on the list for over 4 hours last Thursday and it hadn't gone off by the time I left. 5 card games have virtually destroyed the PLO player pool so yeah, I'll do anything to keep them around.

Yeah I 100% agree. It really doesn’t bother me at all if a player straddles or not. I just want to do what’s best for attracting as many players to the game as possible and making it approachable for NL players that want to give it a shot. I never played PLO until I tried it at MGM because there was no list and they were trying to get the game going. 5/5 PLO seemed reasonable for my roll so I gave it a shot and fell in love. If it was 5/5/10 I would have never played in the first place.

Man, so anyone who leaves any considerable BR at home, seriously consider getting a lockbox. I finally moved my pretty decent sized BR to a lockbox in october and the house i was staying at burned to the ground on sunday, so yeah, best $100 ive ever spent.

Man sorry to hear that. Hopefully you didnt lose anything valuable in it. I'm probably guilty of this, although I use an old firebox my dad gave me that still has the US Steel logo on it - and an "asbestos lined" label...I'm sure thats fine lol.

JG are you still renting out new boxes or do we have to wait until the new room opens?

We are renting out new boxes, but making people aware of the eventual move.

lost nearly everything, valuable and not, but insurance should cover it. Lost a cat which sucks. I did have a fireproof safe, but never put my money in it (or anything for that matter). The safe did survive despite being dead center of the fire, so it did work as intended, but the lockbox has had other benefits, like its kinda nice to not carry thousands of dollars around whenever I go to the casino, especially if i have errands to run directly before or after the casino.

say “i want a lockbox” to a person at the cage or in the lockbox room, and pay $100 for 1 year of lockbox I believe is it.

Anybody get a book signed by Phil Helmuth yesterday? I’m thinking about heading over today if I get done with work in time.

I saw on Twitter someone talking about a player buying into 5/5 PLO with $500 and spinning it up to $100k. I didn't believe it of course. Anyone know what they're talking about?

Did they do it all at 5-5 or did they buy into 5-5 and then jump into the 25-50 game? Its not that I don't buy it because of the 5-5 players - I think there are a few players that are whacko enough to do it - but I've just never seen that much money on the table. At a 9 player table with a $2500 max?

Then again with the players that were in town last weekend? Who knows.

it could happen, but would be pretty difficult at MGM, there was a player at Rivers who ran like 2k into 120k but I think that game is uncapped, so obv easier to spin it up...
