A copule things.

1) I doubt it will actually only be $5, despite what that random dealer said. I think 10-15 is more likely.

2) In any given day, that amount of money isn't a huge deal. However, it adds up after a while. I play enough sessions that I'll be looking at hundreds in parking over the course of the year. That's a full buy in lost from parking.

all i have to add is players south of the Wilson bridge don’t have MDL as another option after 2pm unless they are willing to sit on 495/BW Pkwy for a looong time. I definitely think a non-zero number of players will do something besides MGM poker once parking fee is in effect.

Count me as a nit. As soon as they start charging for parking, I say goodby to MGM forever. And if other rooms follow suit, I can live without live poker in my life.

It was nice while it lasted...

When their initial financial report came out after the first year of having parking fees in Vegas, IIRC MGM reported a 20% increase in revenues in the particular category that included parking. At the time the attributed that primarily to parking fees. As soon as they could, they increased the rates and decreased the hours that it covered.

Not saying that it will happen here - just providing some historical context.

Oh and once MGM shows how much revenue they can make off parking, I'd be stunned if MDL didnt start charging for their garage. Almost 5,000 parking spaces that they could make....$10 a day or so off of. Sure some people can park at the mall. But not all of them.
Parking Fee to me is like Eight Dollar Hot Dogs at the Ball Park or Hundred Dollar Plywood when a Hurricane is coming.
It's just so Money Grubby and slimy.
We are after all going to a Casino to drop Loads of Cash. Is it really necessary to pinch another 5-10-20 bucks at the garage; Dollars that will likely land in the Casino Cash Cage in any case.

Cheapens the experience by paying to park.
Why not go all out and put pay stalls in the Bathrooms and charge an admission fee to enter the casino floor?
Just as ridiculous as paying for parking at a Casino, and MGM can catch some more duckets from all the Ubers & others who are not Parking a Car.

just get the mgm credit card to get free parking? it has no annual fee so you can decide to never use it.
you are auto-upgraded to pearl which gets you free parking in Vegas and I think Borgata.
don't see why it wouldn't be the same at NH.

btw- does tier level comp multipliers work on poker comps?
ie: pearl is +10%, Gold is +20%

As I understand it, poker comps can only be used on food and don't apply to tier credits. So since no tier credits are being earned, I think that would null the multiplier. Could be wrong though.

This. Especially in the casino industry. People can't even park their cars in the garage for free while they gamble in games they can't win and eat grossly overpriced food and drink? It's like if Pokerstars charged $10/month to use their software.

Valley Forge Casino in PA actually does that. Let's not give MGM any ideas.

Assuming to the admission to the floor bit, not the paying to take a piss? The latter would be insane.

As does the Nemacolin casino. It’s a Pennsylvania law for casinos that are part of a resort. If you are staying on property there is no charge. And at least for Nemacolin you just need to buy a $10 gift card which you can use on food/drink.

I can confirm admission to the floor. They give you an equivalent amount in vouchers you can use to purchase beer.

Don't recall restrooms. Don't think I ever had to go when inside. They don't have poker.

Even someone whos "well heeled" could be annoyed by having to pay $15 for parking.[/QUOTE]

It'll impact at least some if people don't get a rebate from playing poker. I'm a tournament player that occasionally will play in one of the small weekday tourneys after work, play cash beforehand, just because it's a closer drive than live. It's not the money as much as it is just annoying. I rather not play in a 100 dollar tournament and pay 15 dollars for parking. I'll probably continue to play the sunday occasionally, but the minor annoyance of the charge for parking will effect my attendance. Don't imagine i'm alone. It's 100% the principal. Hopefully tournament players will get some sort of voucher.

ML! would never charge for parking for the mere fact that it's built in a parking lot. I stopped parking in their garage a year ago. I park in the mall parking lot and walk in, easier than waiting for the elevator, especially when it's busy. At MGM you sort of have a captive audience. That's part of the annoyance. Just my 2 cents.

I remember when Reston Town Center in Virginia implemented paid parking they sold it as an upgraded experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if MGM does the same.

Also the room moving upstairs seems imminent. I’m interested to see what they can do with a dedicated space for the room. Could be a upgrade. But it will be hard to beat what they got now which is one of the elite poker rooms in the country.

Hmmm that area is technically up stairs. Maybe Johnny has been trolling us all and the plan is to relocate to the HL area.

Correct. The construction plans as of a few months ago had the poker room on the second floor as I mentioned in a previous post. It sucks that Johnny apparently can't discuss it with us further because it would be good to know what his plans are for the new space. That way everyone could whine and complain about something other than paying for parking.

You underestimate the multi-task whining that we are capable of.

I am part of “they” and that’s certainly a consideration, but it isn’t always the only factor.

I really like MGM's poker room. It is a well run room with lots of action, free food and FREE PARKING!

It sucks that we might lose free parking. I guess consider me a NIT because, if I have to pay for parking I will make fewer trips. I often only have a few hours to hit MGM and I will go by to get some free food and play for a few hours. But, if I have to pay $10 for parking my free lunch is no longer free as it will cost me $10 bucks.. I have made 21 trips to MGM so, at $10 parking that is $210 bucks..

I think awhile back on this thread JG said something to the effected that," he thinking poker players will like what they decide to do with parking fees." This statement lead me to believe that maybe poker players will get free parking. I sure hope that is the case..

JG, Please, do all you can to get poker players free parking and thanks for running such a great room.

The tournament schedule will be largely unchanged through November, with the exception of the Potomac Poker Open.

Random question. I finally realized that every time I go play poker at NH, the following day I have serious upper back/neck issues. At first, I thought it was random sleeping wrong + not as young as I once was. But it's automatic and predictable after a trip.

Anyone else experience anything like this? I don't really understand why (other than some weird chair to back conforming issue) it happens at NH and not anywhere else. Just curious if anyone else ran into this.

Note: JG, not asking for any changes or new chairs. Maybe a new back?
