Winstar World Casino (Thackerville, OK)

Hi Winstar Regulars!

I was surprised to see there was no running thread for Winstar.
So I am starting this thread.

To start of the thread I have few questions.

1. Do they spread 1/2 PLO game? I know 2/5 PLO game runs on weekend but I do not want to risk too much.

2. Would anyone be interested to start this game?

Re: Official Winstar Poker Thread

I'd like to add a sort of a PSA (Public Service Announcement).

Whether you have been to WinStar or not, the last mile an a half is very "trecherous". It's a great road, wide, well kept, 4 lanes, two going each way but it can be a problem if you get in too big of a hurry.

It looks like a service road, many people think it only accesses WinStar but it connects to a state highway and is patroled by both the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Chickasaw Light Horse Police.

The Light Horse is a 140+ year old organization and unlike security officers int he casino, they are police officers.

The speed limit on the road is 35 as you get off the highway, it goes up to 45 until you are in front of the Motel "The Inn at WinStar" and it then drops back down to 35 for the last few hundred yards to the casino entrances.

Speed limit in the parking lot is 10 MPH, you can be tcketed there as well by the Light Horse..

Save yourself a PITA ticket and take the last mile and a half slow.

Just FYI, once you get to the poker room, you can push all in as fast as you wish to.

Re: Official Winstar Poker Thread

I go up to winstar two to three times a week usually during the weekends. Im going to vegas next week to see the kickoff to the 2010 wsop.. it will be nice to play against some different faces than the usual 1 2 grinders and 4 8 people i see and play against every day.

Re: Official Winstar Poker Thread

I loved the Winstar when I was sent to Dallas for about 8 weeks st8 I played there often.

Best Tent I ever spent time in. But correct me if I'm wrong the Poker Room isn't part of the Tent.

The only things I didn't like about the place was 1.) The SB goes to the Tribe before the Flop
2.) The Bugs outside were really bad when I was there almost every night.
3.) The Rake and plus the fact that they even raked No Flop Pots.

Good Things:
1.) The games were really good
2.) Plenty of room and lots and lots of tables
3.) I did shame them into spreading 5/10 Limit Omaha H/L one night. They called out 10 names and everyone said "I'm still here or I'm still interested" and they weren't going to start the game so I protested and asked what they were even keeping a list for.

I've seen them start a 10/25 NLHE game with 3 or 4 players.

Thanks for starting this thread BTW. I would have except I don't think 2+2 would let me.
Why would players play higher stakes game and not play lower stakes?

Should I just start an interest list when I go there and play shorthanded?
I am afraid short handed game will break because people will fire one or two bullets to play this game.

I am driving around and saw huge ads for the 3 million river tournament which say satellites have started.

Anyone know the structure? Never mind, I found the details.

The satellites look worse than turbos.
Anyone played them yet?

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

This same tribe runs a casino just south of Oklahoma City in Norman.
1/2NL 2/5NL 4/8Limit almost continious. Sometimes a PLO game runs.

Same annoyance of grabbing a buck off the SB before dealing, so forget about chopping blinds, and pain in the butt if you raise to high preflop and fold the table at 1/2 - your raise gets you $2 (and the house gets $1) - gee that is 50% rake.

Floor runs the board pretty efficiently. No really awful dealers and a few that are top notch.

I thought SB is going to jackpot drop. Is there another dollar being taken off the rake in addition to SB?

What is the rake when there is no flop?
They spread 4/8 hi-lo game on weekends sometimes two tables.

What I think is strange is that the megas are $440 for a $2100 event. That's a buyin more associated with $5k+ events. Combine that with the desperate people selling their seats at major discounts prior to the main event and it makes the megas pretty useless.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I like Winstar as a room, but the $3M tourney drew a yawn from me...it just seems like a goofy set-up, with the satellites being how they are, and the fact that it's not until September...it would seem to make more sense to run concurrently or slightly after the WSOP, when there's a bit more attention on poker tourneys.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I go up to Winstar 3-4x a year and always play 1-2NL. I feel comfortable there and I always seem to win a decent amount. Do you think it is time for me to take a shot at 2-5NL or are these players all regulars? Any advice would be much appreciated. I will be there next weekend since it's a holiday weekend and you tend to get some extra tourists there.

ducks, I would definitely take a shot at the 2/5 if you are rolled. Of course there are some good regs, but I don't think you should have a problem if you consistently beat 1/2.
There are some soft spots at 2/5, and when the room is busy there are a lot of games running and you can table change if you don't like the lineup.

Do they spread any Limit holdem games above 3-6 or 4-8? If so, what days. Thank you.

Re: Winstar (Thackerville, OK) Poker Thread

I was there last night and they were announcing open seat for 2/5PLO all night.
How can they expect new players to play 2/5 when they are making it a 5/10 game by straddling.
Note to PLO regulars :
You cannot expect to get action at stakes this high. Instead of running two 2/5 games you should run one game 1/2/5 that will increase player pool.

I think you're right.

And maybe this borders on too fancy for Winstar, but maybe even a NLHE/PLO mixed game -- I see one of the tournaments this year is going to be mixed, so maybe it isn't so far fetched. It might not build up the player pool long term, but at least it might get some PLO going...

Yeah, in spite of having high limits Winstar is years behind vegas room in terms of spreading other games.
They have 4/8 limit omaha but it is not worth playing with all rake they charge.

They should add lower stakes PLO and PLO8 games.
But for limit games they can add higher stakes.

1) straddling does not make a 2/5 game play like a 5/10

2) the 2/5 plo game already gets plenty of action and seems to run every weekend. unfortunately it moves pretty slowly and maybe churns out 25 hands an hour.

Correct me if I am wrong. If some one straddles I need to call 10 or raise pot.
If some one straddles to 10, my pot raise is going to be 2+5+10+my call 10+ pot 27 = 37$ total.
This should make it 5/10 game right?

This happens occasionally when one of the 5/10 tables changes to NLHE/PLO. Usually on weekends. Rarely have people ask for the game.
