And what you have witnessed on these few pages is exactly that, a bashing of a county for no good reason. The county, compared to other counties in the country ranks in the top 100 in terms of wealth and is certainly not dangerous as some would have you believe.

I think people forget that it is among the wealthiest counties in the country and people often look down on it for not being one of the top 5 counties. Yes, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Montgomery county are more wealthy, but surely that doesn't mean Prince George's County is as bad as people would have you believe.

Welcome to the DC bubble where people are so sheltered by the local economy, everyone else is viewed as unworthy.

MGM made the right choice and will benefit from a great state and its residents.

JG - are you considering NOT allowing call-ins?

I consider anything, but we will almost certainly allow call ins at higher limit games.

Oxon Hill is no more dangerous than DC. And 10 million annual National Harbor visitors say there is nothing to be afraid of.

People need to let go of the misguided perception that these areas are dangerous for visitors. If Oxon Hill were as dangerous as some people ignorantly believe, there would be no National Harbor. You would have a BLVD at the CAP redux. Empty storefronts and low-budget shoe stores. And certainly no hotels or restaurants.

MGM wouldn't have even considered the site if there were concerns that casino guests would be daily targets of violent crime.

So who's right? A multi-billion dollar corporation, or locals holding on to 30 year old stereotypes?

https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/md/crime/

Pretty good website overall, has the final 2014 FBI data released in November 2015. If you drill down to each city it will show you a clear breakdown of violent crime vs property crime as well as ranking it vs overall national crime stats.

If you want to sign up for an account you can drill down to individual neighborhoods.

FAQs (or Fiction)
*the following is a list of what I've been able to piece together regarding MGM National Harbor's Poker Room, from reading quite a number of posts in this forum - please feel free to add your remembrances of “wills,” “mays,” and “NOTs,” as well as what you would like to see MGM NH do*

MGM NH's Poker Room will . . .
1. open when the casino opens on Thursday, 12/8/16
2. offer excellent customer service
3. have more tables than Horseshoe, but less tables than Maryland Live
4. utilize the Bravo system for signing players up to games and managing comps
5. comp players $2-$3 an hour
6. spread a variety of limit, no-limit and plo games
7. offer the ability to Mississippi straddle
8. have an area specifically allocated for higher limit games
9. provide poker players with comp vouchers for purchasing beverages and meals
10. offer food service ordering and delivery at tables
11. base the poker room design and features on those already existing at the Aria and Bellagio in Las Vegas
12. have suggestion (not-betting) lines on all tables
13. have televisions suspended from ceiling for easy viewing
14. use one must-move feeder table for main games - not must-move to must-move
15. offer safety deposit boxes for players use (criteria to be disclosed)
16. be consistent in poker management and supervisory rulings regarding players hands and acceptable behaviors
17. have one of the coolest East Coast Poker Room Directors 2+2 has seen to date

MGM NH's Poker Room may . . .
1. allow call-ins for 2/5 games and higher limits;
2. consider allowing players to sign-up via Bravo online;
3. offer 9-seated tables for 2/5 limits and higher;

MGM NH's Poker Room will NOT . . .
1. comp players with tier credits on their mLife cards
2. offer discounted room rates to players based on poker play
3. put comp dollars on mLife card for easy access and use

I would like to see MGM NH . . .
1. do everything listed under “may" and "will NOT”
2. use the feature in the Bravo system that allows the registration/brush stand to seat players - sends player name/initials directly to seat at table, dealer confirms player’s identity upon his/her arrival to table
3. comp players for parking after 2 hours or more of play
4. have a dinner list, where players who pick up their chips to go eat, are placed at the top of the list for the level they were playing, and are given 2 hours to check back-in and be reseated at another, or the same, table at the same level
5. offer first buy-ins at the table when the cage is busy
6. offer high-hand and bad beat jackpot promotions that will encourage the recreational players to keep trying their luck

Not getting tier points is a big downer for me

I enjoy my Vegas trips.....

Will 75 hours get Pearl and 150 hours of poker get Gold like in Vegas?

Will MGMNH match Caesars Diamond/ MDL Platinum or Black? (I just assume that if you are high-roller enough to have Seven Star or Chairman MGM will snap match)

from what I gather, no match for Diamond.
I assume no for md live platinum if they're not matching Diamonds.

I assume odds are good for 7star and md live blackcards and chairmans.

Johnny Grooms..thx for all the information so far. One thing I'm curious is do you know the spread limits for the games yet? Will you have 1/2 or 1/3, or even both 1/2, 1/3? Do you know when you can make that public if not this moment? Thanks.

I believe JG said somewhere in this thread that there will be no 1/2, only 1/3. It was heavily implied that there would be a Mississippi Straddle. (Which I'm in favor of, personally.)

me, too

having played at mLife properties Bellagio, Aria, Monte Carlo and MGM, i suspected poker playing mLife cardholders at National Harbor could expect to receive this exclusionary treatment - yet, i will still hold out hope that this will change

i, too, appreciate being able to use my Total Rewards points and player status accumulated by my consistent play at Horseshoe, for discounted/free rooms, dining and perks at Caesar's/Harrah's properties across the US and Canada - and i have . . . Atlantic City, New Orleans, Indiana, Missouri, Detroit, Windsor, Las Vegas, etc., etc.

I'm getting excited.

Y'all going to have a Twitter account for the poker room?
10-13-2016 , 09:07 AM
So the casino opens at midnight that's different.
