ding ding ding. We have a winner!

AFAIK the main reason for the pink chip game is that it draws interest when people walk in the room and see these huge stacks of all pink chips. It stands out a lot more and has novelty value.

We showed up to Shoe wanting to play pink. They didn't open the game. We stopped showing up.

I remember that Shoe used to spread it, so the question in that instance becomes why didn't they? How many is "we"?

I was talking to a dealer at Live about it and he said they chose not to run a pink chip game. Implying that some interest at least was there but the room didn't want to run it.

I think some of the appeal of the pink chip game is the stories of the legendary action that used to exist in that game when it ran in AC (Tropicana?) back in the day. Apparently it was often 5-way capped to the flop.

On numerous occasions, 10+ people IN PERSON were turned away from the Shoe. They actively killed the pink game. I was never given a reason why, but I did have a shift manager there tell me if I wanted to play that game, I should go to MDL.

Around that time, MDL tried to capitalize on this and offered to spread either pink or 8/16, but a large part of the player base for this game is MDL employees. After the Horseshoe actively told people they were not interested in their business, this game is now played as a home game rake free with mostly MDL employees.

There is definitely interest if MGM is willing to spread the game.

I would actively prefer NOT red chip (not 5/10 or 10/20) because action is definitely worse in those games due to the structure. Pink or blue chip would be cool.

Further evidence that the Shoe seems to be actively try to kill their room...

Kinda. We used to play red chip @ live but then everybody that played that game just started playing green chip instead.

IME, you're not going to get any regular limit game in a new market without somebody making a concerted effort to organize and a group of regulars who will show up reliably and start short.

There is def a player pool in the area, but the problem with smaller LHE games to date has def been lack of organization and lack of people willing to start short...most people playing 10/20-20/40 want at least 7 to start, which is unlikely to happen, at least at first.

Also, from what I've read on 2+2, heard at MDL, and experienced personally, the 10/20 and 20/40 games at MDL tend to get bumped up to higher limits during play. That's likely a turnoff to recreational players who are looking to play at a particular level.
06-15-2016 , 11:47 AM
Meh, everybody at the table has to agree to bump a game up. Not saying it doesn't happen, but people should have some level of personal accountability IMO. If you're playing whatever stakes and don't wanna play bigger, just say no. The gambling police aren't gonna arrest you for not wanting to play bigger

I think you can say no to the raise in limits if you like. If a recreational player is in the game they are normally the fish. Recrereational player/weekend warriors will play almost any limit or game just to play because they want to gamble. They are just looking to have fun and win some money. I have seen it happen multiple times in Vegas and Cali. The turnoff of a raise in limits is to the the "pro" who don't have the roll to move up in limits.

I'd be happy playing pink/ or 8/16 or even 10/20 but if I'm sitting at a 10 handed table playing 10/20 when 9 people want to make it 20/40 I'll just go play 1/2 instead. And if I suspect that if I sit at 10/20 people will likely want to bump it to 20/40 I'll just start at 1/2.

Of course you can take food out of Live and the Shoe. Always people leaving in the elevators loaded with Morty's bags and Piezzeta pizza boxes. Just no drinks, for alcohol reasons.

Sorry again if it's been answered but how many tables are we looking at? If you don't have a specific number I'll take a guesstimate range.

Yes. We will have boxes. There will be an ample supply, and certain restrictions will apply (time played, limits played, etc.). We will likely have an annual rental fee that may be waived based on some of the same criteria. Company policy is that if you have a box, you must access it at least once per month to keep it...
06-16-2016 , 03:14 PM
He said it's a company policy, which means his hands are tied.

The core that could get this game going also wants to go higher, so it never goes long enough to attract others who might move up just a tad from where they are. I've left my house after seeing 10/20 on Bravo, just to get there and find out it's now 20/40 or more. And on the occasion I have played, I've said at least once "if you all want to raise it, I'll just move to another game" but they don't, because... I'm the fish. (proven by the game breaking when I get up to go home.)

I suspect there just aren't enough of us around at that sweet-spot of bankrolls to keep it going. Probably need 40+ active, interested regular (once/week) recs (play for fun) at those stakes to keep a regular weekly game going.

Cool, thanks for the response.

This is the first time I've seen MGM declare so definitively that they'll be opening MGM NH in December:
