blue duck, you hinted later, but didn't put in the OP that the guy in question wasn't some random, but actually someone you knew. Certainly a business acquaintance at a minimum, probably a friend of yours. You've also posted you got a bad beat recently in two forums, so clearly it wasn't a good night for you.
The proper response if someone asks for ID and it is up in your room is to say, "Hold my seat, I'll go get it." There's a sense that your friend may have a sense of superiority, since rather than getting up and getting the ID, he calls his wife and tells her to bring it to him. I suppose it could be worse, he could have demanded she stop her shower to come right away.
The photo copy of the ID doesn't make much sense. I know places that will check an ID, but to photo copy an ID over a jacket is pretty unusual. If they did, it certainly wouldn't be filed with the player information and in fact, floors probably would be allowed to have access to it anyway. A driver's license is pretty valuable as an ID and the casino wouldn't want that stolen.
My guess is your friend was acting like an ass because he felt he was whale because he booked about 0.5% of the rooms at the MGM and any rules didn't apply to him. Your behavior was probably not much better.
the bad beats were yet to come .. it was just some random player getting hassled over his ID. he was 35-40 seemed nice .. there on business. he was nice/ polite for the first few interruptions then things started to warm up. the ID isn't the main issue IMO its the way they handled it. Im not sure what happened with the photo copied ID over a jacked left behind. i was just listening and trying to play with all the interruptions. i think/feel that if you are giving the guy 20 min to produce an ID .. you wait 20min ask if he has it... if not pull him from the table.. explain the law and reasoning behind their actions. treating your customers poorly is no way to run a business unless you are Dicks Last Resort. I always have an unwelcome feeling when i put my name on the MGM list, just like at the airport when you are waiting to check bags and the TA is chatting about personal issues as you watch clock hoping you make your flight.
My "behavior"? i just got up cashed out and calmly said something like "i'm leaving because of all this". It's not the only casino in town .. i have plenty of options... i can play some place that is happy to see me.
have you ever played at hard rock? not sure if the guy is still there .. but i check in .. he instantly adds a Y to the end of my name, asks for my phone number so he can call me to let me know when a spot opens up. do you see the difference ? a guy at the other casino asks for ID when i check in.. and is some what apologetic about doing so..im ok with that too ..
