I am student and doing a study abroad in Turkey at the moment. Unfortunately they do not have any casinos here because gambling is illegal in Turkey. The only option is Cyprus.

I found a list with the casinos but I have no idea how the players are, which casino offers the best games or the most games, etc.

All I heard is that a lot of Turkish people go there and also they have a lot of rich Arabic people there. They all come because it is forbidden to gamble in their country.

Should be some fish around, no?

Yeah, Merit seems to be hosting monthly $250+R tournaments with $100k guaranteed monthly. Haven't been to one myself yet (planning to go this weekend, though) but from what I've heard there's a lot of "typical casino guests" in those tourneys so the field should be pretty juicy ..

I searched for info on the boards, but I haven't found anything outside of tournament reports. I had a conversation with someone from Turkey yesterday talking about the gambling scene in Cyprus. I'm a no-online-for-me American, live low-midstakes grinder and I want to know what poker is like in Cyprus. I've played live poker in the US, Canada, Korea, Macau - but I know next to nothing about that part of the world, or the gambling industry there. Is there poker? Can I expect 10% rake? Are there comps? Is it exclusively tourists, or is there a grinding community?

Essentially, I want to evaluate it for a potential grinding-holiday. Any reports or info would be greatly appreciated!

I think its mainly/only in northern Cyprus. Rake is huge.

I'm planning a trip to Cyprus to play cash games over Christmas (17-28 December). I'm finding it really difficult to find information online. I've worked out that Kyrenia (Girne) is the place to go.

So....
Which casinos should I head to?
When do they run games, are they open over Christmas?
What's the skill level of the player
What stakes are played etc, etc

Anyone recommend a location/hotel to stay at? I'm doing this on a budget!!

At Lefkosa (Nicosia) at North Cyprus only the Merit Lefkosa offers Poker cash games. 1 -3 dollars and 2 -5 (or 5 - 5) dollars at daily base. Sometimes and if high rollers come they make a 5 - 10 table. For the moment there are no tournaments. Game start 07:00 pm.
Rake is 10% (-ve) but above pot 50 dollars decreases. Cigarettes and drink and food are free (+ve). Here there and often some crazy Arabs - Lebanese (real gamblers) come and burn 1K at 1 -3 and go.
Other Texas cash games are to Kerynia many games there.

Just moved to Northern Cyprus.
Played Chamada Prestige Casino. it's 2/5.Sunday night. Game was slow and sticky. 1 table, they run it every day at 7pm, haven't seen any tourists, just local regs who know each other.
Second table of Omaha opened at 10pm, I don't play omaha, but it sounded like they had fun there.

I am looking to play lower, 1-2 or 1-3, heard there is 1-3 at Merit Lefkosa, gonna give it a shot.

Anybody on here been to play one of the tournament series in Cyprus? The Merit series look awesome, I am looking to play in a few new countries in 2023. Any feedback on the whole experience? Seems tough to get to from the US but worth it. Thanks

Im from the UK, and have heard plenty of good things from Merit, is there just one main venue? im hearing its minimum $5/$10 with a high rake cap but is beatable given the action and good comps on rooms and food/drinks etc

I am more inquiring about the tournament series that they run, I believe there is two or three different venue's that they use but I could be wrong.
