long time lurker... look forward to playing with everyone. I as well was selected for the first hand promotion. I tried to get some more information on what exactly would be transpiring at the soft opening but nobody seemed to have any information. Any of you that have already stated you have been chosen had any luck on finding out any more info? I as well am curious if people are just going to be min buying and shoving the first hand. If this is the case i'd just rather have everyone call their $2 and lets just run it blind and get it out of the way

Good times yesterday. Lost two buy-ins...even better good times. Def going to be an adjustment from my home games. People were playing really tight at my table, tried to trap and got rivered twice poop happens.

But the room looks great and the chairs are super comfy, don't think the wifi was working yet though. Looking forward to putting in some time this weekend.

Kudos to Mike and his team, only had one dealer that needed some work.

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) -– FAQ added 2013.08.26

I don't post often, but I'm a heavy reader. That being said this is more of a service announcement to those that live in DC/NOVA coming up 295 or 95 to MD Live.

Traffic. Traffic on 295 between 5pm and 7pm is a cluster, and that's not even mentioning 95 or the Beltway. While MD live can do absolutely nothing about traffic, it's something that's going to be an issue for tournaments that start at 7pm. I live a stone's throw from MD Live and drive 295 daily into DC. 295 backs up very easily and is always a cluster from the 95 split heading north bound. It opens up around 197, but backs up again at 32 and all the way up to 175.

For those coming from DC/NOVA, it will be difficult to impossible to make the 7pm tournament start time. If you want to make the start, plan on leaving the DC area no later than 4:30. I'd love to see a 10pm tournament added down the road. I realize that you're doing promos for the Aruba thing in September, but I'd like to know what tournaments look like going forward in October, etc.

As for the MARC Train... The Camden line operates on a freight line and only runs in the morning and in the evening. While the Dorsey stop is very close to MD Live, you'd be hard pressed to get back into DC later on in the evening, unless you cabbed to Greenbelt. The Penn line, which will take you to BWI might be a better option, and they run trains more often. While only running M-F, I believe there are trains going back into DC late in the evening.

I would suspect that most players will be getting to the casino in the 8pm hour, just because of traffic, and there will be a lot of people registering late for the tournaments. I see you're keeping registration open for 2 hours after that start time, but you might end up finding that you need to either start them at 8pm, or consider adding a 10pm turbo or something. DP used to run the 10pm Deepstack Turbo nightly and I found myself playing it all the time. There would always be 35-55 people playing that 10pm. I have absolutely no idea why they stopped running it, but it was by far and away the best tournament they had because I never had to worry about fighting traffic to get there.

I didn't end up going to the soft opening yesterday, I did the ones for the casinos in DE, and I won't be there tomorrow, but will be there Friday-Monday. From the sounds of it, it sounds like the soft opening went well and the dealers appear to be good, so that's very positive. I've got to say I'm excited to have a casino that's 5 miles from my house. No longer will I have to complain about the trip back from Dover or DP at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning!

PJKobylarz: @DanonymousMan @LivePokerRoom Open at noon, Wednesday. We take call-ins for the list on 2/5 NL+. For 1/2NL you can sign up at the front desk

Above is a copy of a tweet from a poker room supervisor. I'm a lowly 1/2 player so I'll be showing up at 11:00ish.

I haven't heard anything about other games, but it's probably worth a phone call if you don't want to wait.

Just a HU to everyone:

I don't think we'll be taking call ins tomorrow, but feel free on Thursday or maybe even tomorrow evening

Thanks

295 is always bad bet in rush hour, not sure who said sometimes it's better than 95. It's only better if you live in east DC and travel in low traffic, so you cut the mileage.

Thx about Penn line idea!

On rewards cards....

Mike said we get a $1 OR 600 points.

And the website says with 20k and 250k "tier points" you can get a gold and platinum card.

So does that mean after 34 hours, you can have 34 comp dollars OR get a gold card?

(20,000/600) = 33.33
(250,000/600) = 416.67

Also it says on the rewards card that gold cards get 25% and platinum get 50% more comps.

So do you get $1.25/hr or 750/hr as gold and 1.50 for plat?

If so that's a pretty good deal.

I think this is correct. I had about 3k in rewards points when I started yesterday, now I have close to 6k. Should be Gold in no time.

If it is true we should all make sure to get at least gold ASAP and then accumulate faster, before using comps on food.

I will have gold by Friday night, hopefully. Check your players card tomorrow at any slot machine before you enter the poker room. Then check on the way out. Should be a nice amount depending on how long you play.

Can you elaborate a bit how deep is the 2/2 PLO games? This is the game I plan to make a transition to in the future. Are you referring people 4 betting every round or most people just call 2 bucks and see the flop. One preflop raise is about 20 bucks which is a lot less than the 2/5 NL games and I don't think most people would call with rags in PLO.

Depending on where in Rockville, either:

270 to ICC to 95 N to 100

Or

270 to 495 to 95 N to 100

You're right that time of day makes a big difference. From your location, basically don't plan on driving there in the afternoon/early evening.

The best way to avoid traffic would be taking 270 up to 370 to MD200 (ICC) as long as you have EZPass and don't mind the toll. After that 95N to 100E to Arundel Mills Blvd is probably best.

If 95N is a parking lot you can get off early at 32E or 175E to 295N, but that's a gamble since it's likely that 295 won't be much better.

If you don't want to pay the toll the best way is probably the beltway to 95N. Hope that helps. There are probably some back ways you can figure out that I don't know about, but the ones I gave you are probably best with light traffic.

The fastest way for you is to take the ICC (you'll need an ezpass) to I-95N then 95 MD rte 100 towards Glen Burnie. Get off at the Arundel Mills Blvd exit. If you don't want to buy an ezpass, take the beltway to I-95 N to rte 100

I'm committing in advance to playing the ceremonial first hand seriously. Bragging rights are fun, but it's not like there's actually a prize. (If there is, I reserve the right to retract my statement )

To whatever extent the local media may cover it, let's try to present poker as the strategy game that it is, something that many in this community have long been awaiting a serious local venue for, rather than some exciting new flavor of slot machine.

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) -– FAQ added 2013.08.26

Stopped by tonight to get my players card, so I'm ready to go Friday after work. I ended up getting $15 in free slot play, of course it did not win me anything, but it was free. Also got a 2 for 1 buffet ticket.

Of course the room is not open today but it looks like they have the bad beat set at $20K+ to start and a mini BB at $2K.

Question about players card... Just got it tonight but it says it expires in Feb 2014? Would you lose your points then.. or would you just have to renew it? After playing at CTown, not use to a casino that actually comps players.. another plus.

Very excited about this place, 6 miles from work!!!!

2/2 is a $500 max buy-in. Once the game starts going, you'll see stacks of $1000+ easy, if there's a ton of action expect to see $2000-3000+ stacks.

Also, in a full ring, especially in live games, there are plenty of people who at the very least like to see a flop and play more hands, especially OOP then they would in holdem.

As far as if people call $2 or someone makes a preflop raise to build a pot, alot of this will depend if you have action player(s) who like juicy pots.

On Monday, we had at least 2 action players, and this was in the middle of the afternoon on a Monday. You can picture how juicy the game and pots get on a Friday/Saturday when people are looking to gamble, win, and get drunk in between.

I hope so. I leave work at 3, so I'm hoping to be there by around 3:30. I'm hoping that I'm right in thinking that the lists won't start to get too long until after 4pm.
