I agree with you, but it should be noted that the "bet plus half" rule is common enough that it's not absurd for Mike to go with it. It comes from the era when limit was king and the bet plus half allowed a full raise on top of the bet plus half as opposed to a mere completion. As long as we know which rule is being used and it's enforced consistently, we as players can adjust.

My understanding is that the concept of MD Live is more than just a casino; it's an entertainment venue. As such, it's probably not looking to gambling alone to make a profit. Hence the drink prices. I also imagine that Mike is not in position to make any sort of deal with whoever provides the food and beverage for reduced rates in the poker room, but maybe he can confirm/deny for the community.
(Aside: I personally would love free drinks because I greatly enjoy having a cocktail/beer/etc. when I slum it at the lowest limit game possible with my buddies to goof around, but I also like to try to put myself in the shoes of management to understand whether my whims are realistic.)
