Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) -– FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

I won a high hand in 2018 and had to complete tax paperwork at the time. I still have not received anything in the mail. Anyone else still waiting on tax forms?

If the promotion win was $600 or more, they would have given you at 1099 misc income form on the spot. If it was for less than $600, no tax paperwork will be issued.

For the safety of our team members and guests, our 12:15 and 3:15 Tournaments are canceled due to the weather. Check Twitter for status of the 7:15.

Be safe out there

Now that you mention it, I do vaguely recall them giving me something at the time. I was expecting something in the mail. I'll have to dig through my records later. Thank you for your help. Sorry for the stupid question.

Seems like an odd time to be taking perks away when there is more competition in the marketplace for our poker and gambling dollars.

I got my Platinum card today too. The only Free Play is earned each month: for every 5,000 tier points earned, you get $20 Free Play. That's quite a cut from what we had been getting.

I've been Platinum every year since it started. I see no point in putting in any effort to get Platinum anymore. For me, this just makes the poker promotions that much more important since that's how I'll decide if/when I play.

Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme Meet up Game tomorrow 3/6/2019

I am surprised that their Meet up Game hasn't gotten any publicity. Does anybody plan on showing up? Any details to provide either?

Yep, I’ll be there, I posted above on it. Already 250+ on list. MDL will start taking names at 3PM tomorrow and seat as soon as tables fill up. Have to sign waiver, etc since filming. Gonna be huge, prolly fill up 15-20 tables my guess.

Are you kidding? I'm on my way? Seriously though, what's the point of having a warm up event more expensive than the main event. Taking shine, luster, that sort of thing

Make sure to get a win/loss statement from anywhere you played to offset the win; when you add that 1099 in you are going to see it adjust your tax refund/bill

Huge turnout. Ended up with 22 tables of 3/5 NL running. (8-handed so that they could join any game as a 9th)

Andrew and Brad were bouncing around tables every little while. Always willing to stand up and chat, shake hands, take pictures. Really great guys to speak with.
Their previous biggest MUG was 7 tables, so this was a big boost. Will probably bring them back more often and/or get other places on board with it. (Though their price may have just shot up too..)

MDL did a great job organizing this and keeping it running smooth. Started opening tables at 3pm, rather than 6:30 due to demand. Helped streamline once the after-work players showed up. Seemed like they had some extra snacks and things going on at the bar. Plenty of dealers and floor managers. Could've used another chip cart or two, but never hindered play, always found a way to keep the game going.

My table was people from all over the area. NJ, NY, PA, VA. Personally got whacked and didn't stay but 4-5hrs, but it was a good time.

+1. Very well organized, got seated immediately (was on initial list). Got a few double board bomb pots thru. Played 4-5 hours, lost tiny bit, basically even. MDL took good care of Brad and Andrew. Awesome turnout and repping of East Coast poker, super alive and well. Has any property anywhere, anytime ever had 22 tables of 2/5 or 3/5 going? I kind of doubt it.

Bomb pots are where all players agree to a set amount before the cards are dealt. There is no preflop action and all players go to the flop before action begins. Typically creates lots of action as there's usually a good pot built up before cards are dealt and all players in the hand.

Double-board is exactly as it sounds, there's two flops, two turns, two rivers. Still make your best 5-card hand, high-only, but with each board worth 50% of the pot.

Example: You are dealt AK and all players (8) put in $25 preflop.

Flops are:
AK4
664

You're super excited about the first flop with $200 already in the pot. However, with all players in the hand with anything they were dealt, someone will likely really be after the second board with a J6. A third player may be in the hand with Q5 and be ready to crush both of you when the heart comes. Action to the moon a lot of the times with hands that are far from premium or playable preflop. (Hope that explained the action and gameplay well enough..)

For MDL: The double-board option was pretty quickly shut down by the room as it was not approved/allowed, but there was a good bit of single-board bomb pots at the table I played.

Edit: Here is a link to one of Andrew's vlogs where he talks about and shows a Double-Board Bomb Pot. Have the timestamp right to it here: https://youtu.be/81rGPlZ4sz0?t=378

At what point does something like this or the 5-card PLO STOP being poker and more like a lottery? I mean what sane poker player would do this?

I wonder how much money they make for each table they bring in. It has to be substantial, as even bar poker leagues with free poker get paid for each table they bring to a venue.

The story of poker is to make the edge as narrow as possible for better players. There have been at least a dozen things online sites have done over the years to lower the edge of good players. (game formats, site incentives, access to player pools, etc)

It is hard to say how much live casinos care about poker to bother to do anything aside from raising rake.

Thanks for the extremely detailed poker lesson. If poker players were rated as conservatives or liberals, I would be an extreme conservative. Thus, I had never heard of this before.

The single-board is somewhat interesting and usually opens up the table a bit, as it was only done maybe once an hour or so for minimal/limp-ish amounts preflop.
The double-board definitely becomes more of the gamble. Easy to get multiple people all in real quick... much like the 5-card PLO. I won't go near that, but to each their own, I suppose.

Free flights, rooms (suites), food/drinks is just the start. I'm sure there's probably a decent kick on getting 22 tables of 3/5 going on a random Wednesday night for 6+hrs. They'll also get the Youtube kick when they upload to Youtube and all of their viewers watch.. which Andrew just uploaded his now.

Well clearly you are ignorant or you would know there is a lot of skill in 5 card PLO and double board bomb pots.

But to the untrained eye - it looks like a lottery and that is exactly what you want. Thats why 5 card PLO gets the biggest and best whales.

Nitty hold'em games will never attract these players.

Thanks...quite the classy post bro. Hope we never meet.

I just do not see the skill in everyone betting a predetermined amount before cards are dealt. It is an action generator nothing more.
