Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) -– FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

There was a slowroll war in the Friday night game I was in for about 3 hours, especially after I got a little vocal about it on the third time a guy did it. There was 6 at that table that night, along with dirty stack pushes and the like. The game was decent and the general play was bad enough that I didn't want to tap the tank, but if there were any real hotheads at the table things could have escalated quickly.

Along the same lines, there is always one or two very grumpy/douchy players in the pink limit game. Very confrontational bastards. Thankfully most of the table is ok.

Yeah the pink chip game can have some miserable people. The thing that really kills me is the people who complain about kill pots. Like it's a kill game they are kind of the point. I would love to get a straight 7.50/15 going because I think it will bring more players from 4/8. They are scared of 10/20.

Seems more like 20/40 for a while.

Haha, yes. I tell everyone the 5/10 KG is the biggest group of complainers I've ever played with. I thought 4/8 at MGM was the worst, but there it's maybe 25% of the table on average that can't take a beat. At 5/10, easily 50% of the table will either turn on you or turn into a poker instructor after they lose a big hand.

I take it with a grain of salt though...most of those guys have a few decades of life on me. Plus I am just super happy that something other than 4/8 or 20/40 goes regularly!

Happy to report that as of yesterday, Zinburger is still at 1:1 ratio for comps.

When does this 5/10 kill game go usually?

Also, when do they usually put out the tournament schedule?

$5/$10 Limit w/ Kill goes every day, usually around noon or a little earlier.

April tournament schedule was tweeted by @NittyJayTD a day or two ago

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) -– FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

I've played the 5/T LHE game a few times on weekend and the players I've seen are mostly pretty friendly. What bothers me a little is that some of the rules aren't well known, although mostly for rare cases.

The general rules are:
- It is 5/10 limit, played with pink $2.50 chips, with the blinds being one pink chip/2 pink chips.
- If a player wins a pot, they get a "leg up" button. If they win a second pot in a row, it goes to a half kill (the killer posts 3 pink chips, and the next hand is 7.50/15).
- If anyone wins a pot worth over $100, it becomes a full kill (killer posts $10 and the next hand becomes 10/20).
- Killer acts last, unless there is a raise before then in which case they act in turn.

That is all understood pretty well, but it is the unusual cases that cause disagreements. Most of the rulings seem right, but because the rules aren't well-known, some decisions can cause some debate. A few examples I can think of include:

- What do you do with non-pink chips?
- If someone goes all-in, do their white and blue chips play? The last ruling by a floor I saw on that was that they do play. A former dealer disagreed, saying that since the small blind is $2.50, only pink chips and bigger should count for all-ins.
- If someone has 3 pink chips and 3 white chips, and they want to call a $10 river bet, what happens to their extra 50 cents? The last ruling I saw was that they lose that 50 cents.
- The blinds can chop, even if one of them is a killer. If someone else has the kill button, then no chops are allowed. A floor looked this up to verify this ruling.
- If the blinds chop, the leg-up button is returned to the dealer.
- Any pot won counts towards kills. Last weekend I felted someone, winning my second hand in a row, and I posted my half kill as the BB. I was the only blind since the SB left the table after being felted. It folded to me, so I won that pot too ... and had to post a full kill for "winning" 3 pots in a row.

I can image other cases where everyone won't be sure of the ruling. For instance - how do all-in's affect the kill? If someone is all-in and wins a $90 main put but someone else wins the $20 side pot - is that a kill? And/or does the main pot winner get the leg-up button? What if the all-in player wins a $100 pot and someone else wins the side pot?

I'm not looking for rulings on all of these on this forum - I'm just pointing out that lack of understanding of all of the rules of this game leads to many of the disagreements that occur at the table.

The combination of half kill and full kill is absolutely bizarre to me. I guess if people like it and it's good for the game's sustainability then that's great, but it seems like an unnecessary and potentially confusing setup.

For the Streak freeplay, is 9/6 ddb (99%) still the best game?

Arrive a little after 9am on Easter Sunday to hear War Pigs by Black Sabbath playing over the sound system. Very next song is Superstition by Stevie Wonder.

Too early in the morning for this.

It's a 1 hour flight on Southwest, and if you book far enough out, it's about $100. The casino is a short cab ride from the airport.

I haven't seen any official announcement about when the hotel is going to open but .... the website is accepting hotel reservations for Thursday, May 31. Options were: one King size bed for $199, two Queen size beds for $209, and a suite for $299. Prices were slightly higher on that Saturday night.

Honestly, it's dumb, and I'm shocked that so many old-timers are on board with it. (Whoever sold it originally to a group of 5+ regulars must have some serious persuasive abilities. I try to explain a basic kill game to the uninitiated and I get blank stares.) I would be willing to bet that game loses a few hands per hour (minimum) on average due to the additional dealer motions each hand and the rule disputes.

<Sigh> Nevertheless, since I like limit, I want to move up from 4/8, and I've tried to organize poker players before with lackluster results, I'm contented being a sheep for now.

I kinda like it, just for the variety, especially when it comes to the regs. Just like a good MLB hitter will do little things to throw off a pitcher's timing...

But I agree the time wasted on the explaining and debating (including to new dealers to the table who for whatever reason haven't been briefed on it) can be frustrating. Being as it's not a time-drop, I'm OK with it - that's a problem for the house to fix.

Maybe as a compromise, just the straight 1/2 kill for 2-in-a-row or +100 pot would simplify enough to stop the foolishness, and still be a reasonable jump for those looking to bump up from 4-8? But as you inferred, getting that crew to change anything probably also isn't worth the effort

I think more people are turned off with the full kill than those who like it. Last few times people have mentioned that they'd be happier if it was just a half-kill as a max. Ideally, it seems a lot would prefer a permanent 7.5/15 game, but barring that, I agree with BMorE that a straight half kill for 2 in a row or $100 pot would be perfect.

I would support a 7.5 game in lieu of the KG if ML agreed to keep the rake at $3. That's a big perk.

I would also prefer a straight 7.5/15 to the kill. Simply because the 10/20 scares a bunch of people away. But it's much nuch better than 4/8 as it is now so I'll take it.

May is usually the month for the 'free' ncl cruise promo.
Last year I didn't get notified but just happened to be there that giveaway weekend and got one.

If someone finds out the weekend for this month, please post it.
Thx
