The old heads who consider 6-7 handed too short to play. I saw numerous older guys complaining in general and to the supers about the switch to 9 handed. Same kind of guys who moan and groan every time a player raises preflop as if it's a dirty move.

Definitely agree that this further detracts from the few reasons to play at Live! over MGM.

Mike's been doing this for years. When I complained about it in 2015, Rapini & others told me how stupid I was to expect promotions money to come back to the weekend players who contribute most of it. The only way to have a decent shot at it is to quit your job to play all week. Oh well.

Please quote the post where I said you were stupid. I've definitely said that a previous post of yours was nonsensical because it was nonsensical, but I don't recall ever calling you stupid.

If instead I said that it was a smart business decision by Mike to direct promotion funds in a way that would cause an increase in traffic during down times, I stand by it.

You guys don't really think that this will be the only June promotion do you?
Because I highly doubt it.

Well, last time you didn't like a promotion, you claimed you wouldn't play here that month. Then spent all month posting in here about how "nitty" the games were, as if you really were playing here.
Good Luck, see you in July!

As I stated above, there will surely be other promotions. And I disagree with your assumption that the players who only play on weekends contribute the most to the fund. But, with other promotions running, surely you don't have a problem with a promotion paid for by the all week players, even if it's skewed towards them?

Folks don't jump into conclusions. Today is still the 26th. Mike usually posts them close to the 1st.

Also, the other location posted them very early this time.

Like any business they are competing for the same player pool, so, I would assume it would be competitive.

Yeah last time I objected to the promo I think I ended up playing in the room twice that month - I think once because there was a long wait at MGM and once because I was already close to MDL. Though I think I played like 10 sessions at MGM that month.

Pre-MGM I spent nearly 100% of my time at MDL and expected something like 80% at MDL after but it's been more like 20% and declining.

The freeroll tournament is way way smaller than previous monthly promos so perhaps there's something else to come. Or they've been depleting the promo fund and need to tone down the promos to let it recover a bit. I'd expect June to be kind of a down month anyway.

Dealer last night told our table that June will have a 4 per hour promo. I suspect the Freeroll was announced because we can begin earning hours on Monday...

How many entries are expected overall for the multi day going on now? Also, how many can be expected for Sunday's $100 bounty?

IMO no promo is better than a promo that I can't win. At least the no promo leaves the money in the promo fund where I could possibly win it at a later date.

I think I'm missing something. Neither MGMNH nor MDL has weekend promotions, right?

MDL has the 25 hours in a week to get entry into the freeroll. We're talking about the announced June promos.

Today I read the flyer for the June freeroll tournament promotion. You have to earn your 25 hours between Monday 12:00am through Saturday 8:00am - so weekend play doesn't count. For the tournament itself, you get 8,000 in chips and a $20 staff add-on gets you an additional 10,000 chips.

So for June, MDL does or does not have weekend promotions? I thought psujohn's beef was that MDL does not have weekend promotions. But MGMNH doesn't either, right?

No my beef is with promos that apply only to full time players and exclude recreational players. IE someone with a full time job generally can't play 25 hours during the week.

Partly because I pay into these promos and have no chance to win them. Partly because I disagree that these kind of promos bring people into the room who otherwise wouldn't be there.

It'll never happen but I'd be curious to see what would happen to traffic at MDL if they just turned off all promos for a time. I guess they have during big tournament series in the past but I never tracked how that affected the cash game action.

Why not just use the random seat giveaways every 30-60 min,NOT based on hours of play, and do away with high hands. That would give everyone the same chance to win $. If you're sitting at a Jp eligible game ,you have a chance to win $500,250,$1000 whatever it is. Same amount of money, but in a way that doesn't effect the play and pace of the game. Too many people stalling, looking for high hand boards, asking the dealer,or constant talking (whining)about gets real old after 2+years.

Also,I'd give up a kidney for a high hand free month

That's why I like MGM NH's hot seat promo. Also I've gotten a table share twice so that helps me like it more. I don't know that it does much to draw people in to the room though.

Really I think the promos that work the best to bring people into the room that wouldn't otherwise be there are the worst promos like the billion dollar high hand for straight flush beat by a royal. The average joe walking past the room doesn't care about $500 high hands or $500 dropped on a random seat. The promos that we get from MDL and MGM aren't designed to bring in outside people but rather to sway where the people who already play 20 hours a week are going to spend that 20 hours.

In my specific case,it's swayed me to just play on shady overseas online sites.

To win a high hand you have to put money in the pot. To win a hot seat drawing you don't. It could have the effect of encouraging nittery. I think you are just being a contrarian are have not really thought out your argument.

For the 5000 hot seat giveaway next month. It will likely be profitable to just sit at a 1-3 table and just post blinds and never play a hand. 8-12$ an hour with a chance to win 500$. Hell you can spend the majority of your time away from the table pay no in rake and have the same chance as anyone else. At least with high hands you have to put money in the pot. The more hands you play the better chance you have to win.

Your right! Rewarding the people who spend the most time in your room is a terrible business decision.
