But at least a big box store would either disclose the promotion in full whether it's in fine print or not. MD Live didn't do any of this until the jig was up and led all these people on to their shenanigans. It's just a SHADY business practice when the last 3 years we have been getting the bonus the same exact way and then they decide to change it up on everyone after its all said and done.

I got my platinum streak mailer. I would also prefer 4 lump payments, but its not a deal breaker for me. It's not as bad for platinum I think, as the $125 incriments are more Sizeable.

What I don't see is anything regarding maintaining your status to be eligible. In previous years we only got our 2nd and 3rd bonus if we were "on track" to keep that particular VIP level. Is that requirement still in place for these bi-weekly bonuses? If it is, I could imagine many of the gold VIPs falling behind and not receiving much at all. My mailer did tell me that I recieved 10,000 rollover points. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but perhaps that's a boost that stops people from initially not being able to collect.

Sorry, I didn't state that well. I'm talking more about big rebates/refunds. For example, a $100 mail in rebate on a tv. Why doesn't the BB just take $100 off the price? Because they know a pretty large % of people aren't going to spend the time.

Maybe not an exact comparison. But say that MDL puts a pretty significant - I'll guess low 6 figure - liability on their balance sheet "Streak Refunds". Under normal circumstances their internal metrics still say that 10% of people aren't going to claim it at all. But doing it this way ensures that...25% of people aren't going to bother. Thats liability that comes straight off their sheet. Hell for people with small refunds like me, I'll claim 0% of it.

For some reason I don't get mailings so I have to go by what I read here or on the rewards site but did they ever promise anything about the streak or were people just assuming it'd be the same as in previous years. Yeah I don't love it but I don't feel like they took anything away from me because no one ever promised me anything about this year.

In other news the 50/hr promo has turned an already reg/nitfest into probably the worst 1/2 game I've played in a while. I'll be at MGM or HSB the rest of the month.

No, they've never promised or given much detail about the Streak promotion. They have always stated that the details/structure for each year will be released around the start of that year. They have not ever even committed to a specific $ amount that the bonuses will increase each year. Personally, I'm glad that poker play still qualifies for it. The Streak was never geared towards poker players. But, now we're used to it, and certainly will take it into account when we choose where to play.

It's also worth noting, again, that this is not a "poker room" promotion. This isn't something that Mike did, or likely has much input on. With the new place opening, I think it's reasonable to assume that both casinos will have more loyalty based promotions.

I think by far the biggest factor is location. MGM dominates the NoVA crowd and DC which is now a more reasonable Uber away.

There are a lot of other factors too - some outside the casino's control and some within it. MGM is the new shiny so will draw the casual "check it out" crowd but MGM's food is probably 100X better than what they serve at MDL and while their table cocktail service is about on par they do have some high end bars where you can get a nice cocktail or premium drink.

As a poker player I didn't think those things would matter much and having MGM and MDL about equal distance from me I'd still spend most of my time at MDL. But I eat something at the casino > 50% of the times I visit and the far superior food at MGM makes a big difference.

The promos don't matter much to me though I did win 3 high hands at MDL last year. I'd rather they didn't drop that $2 at all but if they are going to do it they very much need to run promos that'll drive action and not bring out all the nits.
