100% agree. To be fair, I don't know what the floor said to him and I don't know if/how long he will be banned. Just assuming he'll be back in <30 days based on recent events.

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) - FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

Once upon a time, the players policed such actions themselves.

When a player who was known as an X sat down, someone would let the entire table know what sort of person he was and warned them to be vigilant.

Now the players have abdicated their roles in favor of a system that really doesn't care that much about them.

Appreciate Brad's post but a +1 to this.

Its mostly disappointing that the ROOM is not dealing adequately with these players and in the end it winds up being up to the fine members of this thread to post information like this. Sad.

When the chip thief sits at my table I make an announcement about him to everyone else at the table. He got picked up from my table the other day for being away over an hour. He came and asked "what happened to my seat?" I loudly replied "SOMEBODY STOLE IT"

Permanent ban for going north seems a bit harsh to me. I mean we allow for contrition and accept convicted murderers back into society after a period of time. A considerable ban and a 2 strikes and you're out for going north/south seems more reasonable.

A harsh ban might even serve as a deterrent.

With more competition/choice coming to the area a room needs to be careful it doesn't become the room that's most tolerant of cheaters or it'll become home to all the cheaters and all the fair players will navigate down the road.

As was just discussed in the MGM thread, there is a difference between going north and adding chips mid hand with the nuts. One is breaking a rule and frowned upon, the other is cheating. Cheaters should he banned.

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) - FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

You're correct. Among recs going north between hands might be accidental and even adding chips mid hand might be "i didn't know" among the newbiest of newbs but a reg adding chips mid hand with AA clearly knows he's cheating. I'm not sure it rises to the lifetime ban for me but even for a first time offense it's far worse than a "you're done for the day" in my book.

I would imagine that the length of the ban is probably inversely proportional to the amount of money the player drops in the casino. I suspect that the poker room's hands are tied when a large casino player does this sort of crap (or the table hopping or any of the other things we ***** about).

I guarantee you that a player caught stealing chips in the pits would be arrested and face charges. A player caught cheating in the pits (such as adding chips to a winning roulette #) would face a perma-ban, and possible arrest.

Why should the poker room be any different? We're not talking about angle shooters here, we're talking about criminal activity.

Because when done to the casino, the entity with the power to ban/arrest/etc is the one being cheated, while when done to another player it isn't. One could argue that those shouldn't be treated differently, and that's fine, but they are in fact different.

He was called out, hand was paused while tapes were reviewed and confirmed that he was cheating. The floor handled the situation well and ruled correctly imo in that the added chips weren't in play, his hand was still live, and the hand would play out. They escorted him out of the room afterwards.

However, seeing as how the last person to be caught doing something ****ty is back paying in the room I fully expect this idiot to be back very shortly. This was a very very regular 2/5 player. You can PM if you want to know who or just ask in the room as many people will know and will be letting others know.

I am confident this guy, and very possibly his acquaintances, have been cheating like this for a long time. It is important that we all pay attention not only to protect ourselves but to protect the recreational players as well. There is no way a rec player would have noticed this or called the guy out for it. It's our job as Regs/Pros/decent human beings to protect the integrity of the game and other players. And you don't have to catch them physically putting chips on the table, just be generally aware. I didn't see this particular scumbag put the chips on but I knew exactly how much he started the hand with and that did not include any black chips.

Did he win the hand?

He did. I've never really slow rolled anyone but if I hit I was fully planning to say nice hand, tell him he's a scumbag, cut out the chips, and have the dealer start to push the pot before tabling the winner. Unfortunately I didn't get to do that.

I can't imagine how the new calendar format is going to entice random casino donks to wander into the poker room and give away free money. The new calendar format sucks. You cannot view a month at a glance and that makes it difficult to plan.

This. Going north out of the hand is pretty minor (should still be enforced/ caps protect recs and the poker ecosystem) adding chips during the hand is stealing from the other player same as if you grabbed chips from his stack.

Any answer on this? I was there last night and it wasn't showing up in my network list. Considering coming back tonight and I'd like to know if I need to download some podcasts or something ahead of time.

Download the podcasts. That way you're prepared for the worst-case scenario.

I was hoping to postpone the indecision in figuring out WHICH podcast I want to listen to. But you make a valid point.

On a similar note... has anyone ever had an issue where the touchscreen on their iPhone just kind of stops working while plugged in to the USB ports built in to the tables? I've noticed it a handful of times over the past few years and I can't come up with an explanation for it. I end up having to unplug my phone to send a text or whatever.

I'm told that there is a planned outage in progress and it will be out another day or so. Sorry, that's as specific as it gets. This came from a dealer

^^Yes, that is a common issue for iPhones plugged in at the table from what I've heard. I think if you use the regular outlet instead of the USB port if may fix the issue.

Re: Maryland Live! (Arundel Mills Mall; Hanover, MD) - FAQ in OP, added 2014.02.02

Does anyone here have experience playing in the 2/2 PLO game? I've never played PLO live but was thinking about giving it a shot next time I'm at MDL.

Do most players buy in for closer to $500 or closer to $200?

How common are straddles?

How big does it tend to play?

Any other general advice for the game?

Thanks!

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this question: if the casino has a promotion that says "earn x amount of points and receive whatever the prize may be" can those points be earned by poker hours?

It plays like a true 2/2. No rounding up. Some buy in for $200, some for $500. No rhyme or reason. Some folks straddle, others never do.

Sometimes the game plays big, other times it is a nitfest. Last night another player folded a 16-card nut wrap on the turn for a pot bet of $87. Three hands later, he got in $862 on the flop with open ender and flush draws against my set and flush blockers.

Most regs are pleasant, a few are not.

Sorry there isn't better info, but please let me know when you are going!

I play that most of the time. It is much looser pre-flop than my forays into PLO previously (<2008).

Quote:

Both.

Quote:

Common in my experience.

Quote:

Sometimes not huge, but a lot of the time bigger than you would think. 2/2 blinds, $5 straddle, someone raises the pot, five people to the flop.

Quote:

I was playing way too tight until a few days ago. It seemed like if there was only the $5 straddle everyone was seeing a flop except me. It wasn't odd at all to constantly hear the dealer say: "Eight players," "Seven players," virtually every hand. Even playing super loose (~30% hands) I'm sure everyone at the table thinks I'm a total nit.

Good luck!
