Well... if you're a decent player, just without live experience, telling people it's your first time playing live will most certainly get you action as people will simply assume that you are a fish. So that's a plus too.

My first live experience was Turning Stone Casino in the 90s when it was no bigger than an airplane hanger. I played a tourney and then 2-4 limit. I was scared out of my gourd.

The tournament loosened me up though... got me used to the flow and rhythm of the game without have "real" money on the table in front of me. Perhaps start out with a smaller buy-in tourney to get you relaxed before playing in a ring?

If anyone has an update on flight availability for the freeroll I'd appreciate it.

They're filling up, but no one will get shut out that wants to play. You'll just have to be an alternate. Should get in quickly. Sign up when you can

Thanks

I assume that dead stacks will be blinded off from the start given that there will be alternates?

Some poor shnook spent hours creating this webpage with info and links to payout structure etc.

All stacks will be put in play at the start of the tournament, even if the player is absent.

I will be at Maryland Live for the Capitol Poker Classic. I am bringing my husband and an amateur player whom I have been coaching for a few months.

While I am not interested in the tournaments, hopefully there will some great cash games during the festival. Does anyone know about that?

Also, what is the rake/BBJ structure at ML?

Hopefully there will be an informal 2+2 meetup. Please don't hesitate to say hello if you see me. I'm not going to interfere with your hookers & blow

Check out the very first post in this thread. Contains a great FAQ that will answer most of your questions.

I can only speak to cash at 2/5 and smaller; always good games to be found.

Thanks so much, Zippy. I was wondering if things had changed since the original FAQ. I have also been following Bravo, but of course that doesn't describe the cash game situation during a festival.

My husband tends to play 2/5 and up, limit mixed games, some Stud.

I was a Stud specialist until years of bad chemo followed by even worse pancreatitis (caused by the bad chemo) wrecked what little talent I ever had. I doubt I could compete in any real Stud varieties these days. Memorizing all of the cards is currently impossible. Maybe some Razz if it becomes available.

Since this is the first time I've been able to play poker in almost nine years, I'll probably stick to LLO8 for the gimme.

Folks that manage this thread do a great job of updating the FAQ anytime things change. You can count on it being accurate.

Overall I think this is very well run room, best by far in the area.

Sorry to hear about your challenges. Good luck and have fun!

In this tournament, stacks are going out at the start to be blinded off.

Sorry for any confusion, but it is listed in the rules.

Thanks

The floor told me yesterday "nothing is guaranteed" when it comes to alternates. I'm not worried either way since I'm the 4th alternate lol. You also can't sign up for the tournament if you acquire your hours during the specified hours to sign up. Found this out yday when I wanted to sign up for the thrusday flight at 550 since there were only 25 spots left and was told the system doesn't refresh so I wasn't eligible to enroll at that time.

That was not my experience; I was able to sign up about ten minutes after hitting the first threshold at the table. YMMV, of course...

if you want to sign up immediately upon reaching the hours threshold, you need to ask your dealer to log you out and then log you back into the table so that the bravo system can reset and update your hours. then you can go to the desk and register.

The advantage of admitting (at least to the front desk) that it's your first time in this room is that they can be extra helpful which should actually help the nerves. You can also say it's "my first time playing in this room" which doesn't really admit to the whole table that it's your first time playing live.

It's helpful to have some home game experience or at least something where you handle chips but plenty of old timers call and fold out of turn. If you understand how not to string bet (here you count chips behind your cards) and pay a little attention you'll be miles ahead of the average guy

Don't know who gave you this false information. If you have enough hours, and sign up for the tournament within the time frame we've given, no one will be shut out.

Thanks

Mike...thank you for the clarifying the facts and making sure all who gain the appropriate hours will have a chance. I did get my time in before the initial entries filled up, but I do appreciate that all players that achieve the requisite hours before the end of the qualifying time will be given an opportunity to play and not be shut out. It is a balance satisfying the full time players and the recreational players, but in the end I think all types make the room as good as it is.

Cheers.

Mike,

1. How long are you going to leave initial stacks on the table if the player does not show up? Until it is blinded off?

2. Staff $20 add-on: If I am registered but arrive late, I can take the add-on but I must do it (ie inform the dealer) before I am dealt in for my first hand at the table, correct?

3. Similarly for alternates: they should tell the dealer upon sitting down, correct?

Hello. I'd like to request the bbj/promotions drop be adjusted to one dollar being taken at $20 and $40 instead of $10 and $30. The current promotions drop is very detrimental to 1/2 nl players. When the pot is $10, 20% of it is taken by rake+bbj, and when the pot is $30, 16.6% of the pot is taken. Add in a dealer's tip, respectively, the players lose 30% and 20% of their money each hand at these amounts. If you make this minor change there will still be more than enough money for promotions. I'm sure everyone would be quite happy with this adjustment.

Thank you,
Steve

Those are fairly singular events. You are assuming exactly $10 or $30 is the pot size going to the flop and there is no additional action.

There's a $20 add on for the freeroll?
