I don't think most rec players would notice about the "new $7 rake" unless poker is your profession then every penny counts. As for most rec players like myself, I don't think I want to drive that extra 12 miles further from LIVE "we've been through this already" and playing at the shoe does not guaranteed my win every hand and therefore, it wouldn't be better off to play at the shoe despite the lower rake.
Rec players who don't play for a living but want to show a profit notice plenty. Well, I do anyway. I'm rec in the sense poker is for fun, but, for me, the fun is derived from playing well (or playing poorly and learning from it)... I don't get my thrill from the possibility of a big payoff when the odds don't justify it.
Higher rake is a BIG turnoff for me. The only game I can beat at that rake is 1/2 (or 1/3) and .... maybe 4/8 if I'm VERY selective about game choice.
Thing is, I hate no-limit poker and 4-8 bores me. So, unless Horse is running or 10-20, I'm not having fun. If the rake were reduced to say 4 max, no jackpot, I could make enough for it to be worth the boredom. So,
