I posted info about PR poker a few months back and in response to another post asking about poker in PR. The info was much fresher in my mind then, so I suggest searching for that post. The cliff notes are that there is poker, especially at the Ritz and Intercontinental. 1-2 and some 2-5 mainly. All NL hold'em.

Does anyone know any more detail about the games - 1/2NL?, 2/5NL?, PLO? - what are the games like? best poker room? I noticed 10+ casinos, but which ones have poker rooms?

Stayed at the San Juan Marriott Stellaris for a week in June and visited the Ritz for a meal and a walk-through of their casino. Poker at the Marriott is a crappy 5-10 limit game w/ rake 10% to an absurd $10. So Ritz better.

I like surf so for vacation aspect I much preferred the Marriott as it is on a beach that gets waves, body-surfable. Ritz is on a reef protected bay with no surf. Pretty but a snoozer if you enjoy surf (my wife would prefer the Ritz's beach, no surprise).
Marriott closer to Old San Juan, Ritz is very close to the airport. I think I might actuallly prefer the Marriott overall, poker notwithstanding.

If you are there for poker and want nice - Ritz. I checked into that Marriott and checked out because it was no Ritz... Also, get ready for 95 percent Spanish at the table

I'm going to puerto rico for 5 days next week. I have heard the Sheraton in Caguas is the biggest casino, and we will be staying in a resort in palmas del mar for 2 nights that has a casino in it. Which ones have the best like 2/4NL or similar? Any advice would be great, I don't know anyone who has been to any casinos in puerto rico.

Ritz Carlton San Juan has 5 or 6 tables.
the 2/5NL game usually gets started after 6:00pm nightly
there is also a tourny that gets going too but i don't know the schedule for it
lots of locals, some wild, some nits
they speak Spanish at the table (possible collusion?) so get used to it
it's not that bad though as the dealer will help you out with bet amounts

It's kinda crazy, the place is more scenic than anything else
you'll notice that a lot of people will call your raises with 78 suited and stuff like that, so when you play, if you're serious about winning some cash, try to play really good starting hands and fold more often than not, players there for some reason play pretty honestly to what they have, not that much bluffing going on...

assuming you are staying in the San Juan area, the marriot has a bingo-like 5-10 limit game. The Ritz has 2-5 NL and tournaments at 8pm mon-thurs and 5pm fri-sun. Do a search for puerto rico poker, there was a good thread by Javanewt(thanks again java) a few months ago.

You're welcome, MontyBurns.

Listen to MontyB and do a search for my old thread. Poker in PR is a crapshoot, but it's fun (as it is everywhere).

The Ritz has the best games. The San Juan regulars all left the Intercontinental a couple years ago and now play there.
There are still a few small buy in evening touneys around but not too much to speak of.

Be prepared for terrible structures, rebuy tourneys where you have to go broke, go downstairs to the cage and buy in again and come back up to be seated at a different table.

The royal flush jackpot means that anyone with AK-A10s push all in regardless and its very much like No fold em hold em.
But its a good crowd and lots of fun

yes, the ritz 2/5 games usually go around 7pm. the games are painfully painfully slow. however, they can be very profitable if you play extremely tight b/c everyone shortstacks.

I've watched the 2/5, and it's a bit insane. Seems to be a lot of locals gambooling. Looked fun, but I don't have the bankroll for that kind of variance.

(The limit games are no-fold 'em, but if you are catching, they are profitable.)

I was at the Ritz during Christmas. I played one round and left. The game was so painfully slow that it was unplayable. The dealer was constantly making change and stacking and counting the pot. They don't know how to run a poker game.

100 min buyin, 500 max buyin. When I played on saturday night back in february, everyone bought in for the min except for another guy and myself. Game didnt run till around 1030pm and died at 3am. Chip designs are identical to Borgata.

i am puertorican and have millions of hands online and thousands of hands live under my belt. i don't live in puerto rico no more but from when i've played there this is my best piece of advice:

DO NOT waste ur time playing there. people shortstack, the rake is huge (10% up to $10, compared to 10% $5 max, or just 5% online), the game is slow (u won't get 20 hands in an hour), and some rules are very weird. plus in puerto rico there's a lot more fun things to do with all the beaches and fine bitches.

if u still wanna go play then i suggest u get there early, buy in full, premium hand selection, and value bet the sh*t out of every hand. people down there don't really understand any of the basics like pot odds, position, etc.

if i HAD to play because someone put a gun to my head, i'd do so at the ritz carlton in isla verde. if u can't get there then u can hit the condado plaza for some 2-5NL or the marriott at el condado for some 5-10 limit.

looking forward to TR, good luck.

Ah..thats a key thing I forgot. 10% up to ten dollars. Pretty sick rake.
