Just walked through the room for the first time in a while. The new table configuration downstairs is awesome.

Unrelated, did MDL do the Dec promo last year for maintaining tier status? Any plans to do that this year, and if so what are the details? Thanks.

Here's an idea I had - I wonder what people think of this. I'm not even sure myself if it is a good idea.

The high hands and other daily promos seem to drive a lot of traffic to the room. When there is no promotion, the room is not very crowded. I don't think the bad beat brings in nearly as many people as the high hands - several months ago when it had grown to over $200K, I don't think there was many more players in the room because of it.

My idea is to eliminate the bad beat jackpot, and instead just do high hands and other variations on the monthly promos that have been run. Ideally, I'd like to see the promotion rake drop from $2 to $1 (or 0!), but that seems unlikely. Assuming it does stay at $2, then the high hands could be larger, or more frequent (shorter time periods for high hands), or spread around more (bring back the everyone-gets-$100 when someone at a table hits a royal flush).

brilliant!
+1000 internets for this man!

yes, get rid of the bad beat jackpot and more/better daily promos!
and/or lower the jackpot drop

Let's go with the theory that bad-beat does nothing to draw people into the room. I believe that is fair since it doesn't grow big due to all the promos creating many more hands per week in the room. Since it serves no traffic/promotional purpose (nor value then to its administrator) then for sure it should be eliminated.

If a $1 drop could fund the current promos, then that would be great for everyone (especially regs who are there anyway.)

Plausible? By my math the current promos cost ~$100K/week. At 30 hands/hour/table, that's 3,333 table-hours, requiring the room average ~20 open tables 24 hrs/day at a $1 drop. I'm guessing that's not enough... probably need it to be about $1.50 to fully fund. (thus avg. 13 tables)

(I'm sure Mike can do this math with the real numbers, i.e. promo cost, hands/hour avg. and avg. open tables/24 hrs... to get the right answer.)

I don't know where it is, but I'm sure there's a pot-size for that second buck that will give you the desired $1.50 avg. drop. $40? $60?

This also reduces the terrible ~16% tax on those middling $30 pots which makes playing 1/2 or 4/8 out of the question for me when promos aren't significant ($1k/hr+).

I like both dropping the badbeat and reducing the jackpot drop.
Of course if they actually did this it would all but guarantee hitting a bad beat during the next session.

Should be easy to get black - 500 poker hours divided by 31 days is only a little over 16 hours a day. If only the hotel was open.

made Gold from poker only.
just by coincidence I was playing at md live today.
forgot about the free cruise till I saw people walk around with them.

went up to the booth and was surprised to get one.
one of the dealers said all Gold gets a cruise.

it used to be only all Platinums and above got a cruise.
Golds and below had to 'earn' it.

This chart says cruise starts at Platinum, so if that changed (and they didn't tell us) I'd be kinda ticked... I took the freebie when I had Platinum 2 years ago and it was a nice perk. Under Gold they only offered a "partner discount" when I inquired.

Maybe AA qualified in some other way?

When picking up my certificate for platinum I noticed the sign included gold as well.

What did they give you for gold? Platinum included usual list of mostly 7 day options, one 8 day and a handful of 3 day.

made Gold last 2 years solely on poker.
like I said in my post, i got a cruise certificate 2 years ago but not one last year when you had to call to reserve. (I found out the phone #, called and she told me I wasn't getting one.)

this year I still didn't get any mailings about the cruise certificate.
I just showed up at the booth and got one, which leads me to believe what the poker dealer said was true.

90% of mine are 4-7days to the Caribbean or Bahamas/Florida from various ports.
two of them 4 days on the Jade from miami.
one them is a 5 day on the Pearl from new Orleans.

Looks like your options are about same as mine with platinum. I've been platinum for 3 years, earned completely via poker hours.

Wow, that's awesome! (and yeah, I'm ticked I missed out... what good is a promo if they don't, well, promote it!?)

Nope. Person named on certificate must be one of two people going.
