del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

Del Lago Casino in Waterloo, NY just opened up. Small room of 12 tables but plenty of action. Hope that they see the need to increase the table count as demand was very high. Rake was higher than other casinos. Played 2-4 limit and the rake was constantly $5 for the rake and $2 for the high hand jackpot. Still a very nice room!

I heard really good things about this room so far. The poker app they have is a nice touch as well. Hoping to check this room out Saturday.

What is the app you are referring too? I don't see anything in the Google store. I was hoping they would be on bravo, does their app provide the same information?

I too would like to know what app you speak of. It would be great if it was like Bravo. I too was hoping that they would be on Bravo.

Inturn Poker. I played about 10 hours yesterday, 2nd say open. Good games but kind of slow, after reports they were slammed opening night. Dealers are new. It's nice, but not top-tier nice. No free drinks in poker room, but they do have them on the floor.

Word is they want to steal the bigger cash games from TS. Some interesting rules: can always buy to max stack, can expose cards, utg and button straddles.

Demand was high for 1-3 today. 12-15 waiting most of the afternoon.

How about the bigger games? Have 2 5 or 5 10 been running and if yea - how many tables?

Also, is there a poker room phone number one could use to call in ahead?

Download the Inturn poler app, it's basically bravo for just for this room, you can see what games run. I think there were 3 2-5 games going Saturday. No 5-10.

You can also use this app to get your name on the list. You have a 60 minute window as well. Once you get there just check in at the front desk. This room is really nicely run. Can't wait for tournaments!!

I see on the app that they have 1-2 PLO. Does this game (or any bigger PLO games) run at all on the weekends? Would anyone be interested in trying to get it going once a week or bi weekly?

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

Quick trip report.

I was in Rochester for business this week, since my flight in arrived early afternoon I had time to check out the room.

Random observations:
- Casino seems far away from major urban areas so I wonder if there is a large enough population of people nearby with disposable income required to keep a poker room healthy.
- arrived late on a Tuesday afternoon so no problem parking or getting a seat.
- 4 tables of 1/3 running, several other games up on the board interest lists
- learned after arriving that you can call ahead to be added to the list
- staff all very pleasant and helpful
- not on Bravo. They are hooked into a small time Bravo competitor that looks to only have the one room so far. Why not have the room listed in the same place as most other rooms?
- I love that tables are 9 handed
- major love that you can match the largest stack
- under the gun and button straddles are permitted.
- room decor is nice with lots of space between tables
- not a fan of the slippery vinal chairs
- tables have racing strip hard betting line. Forward motion up to, but not crossing that line means nothing. I hate this as it gives opportunity for angles
- all the dealers I encountered were friendly, but obviously fairly new in the job. Only one was truly awful. Overall they are pretty casual about how they run the game.
- combination of staff and players gave a home game vibe
- VERY soft, terrible players. Almost everyone was loose, weak and passive. Only one younger guy at my table was halfway compitant, but he played so extremely predictable ABC that he could easily be exploited.
- I sat with 300 then after 30 minutes observing quickly matched the biggest stack of about $800
- looking around the room there were few deep stacks and most bought in for less than 300
- a 2/5 started between 6-7pm

Overall I enjoyed my time, and turned a much better then average porfit for the few hours I was there. I wouldn't travel just for the game, but will drop in again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

I'm a "local" (this new casino is like 10 minutes down the road from me) and this is the first casino I've played in... I used to play a lot of basement tournaments.

So any review I leave wouldn't really be useful without anything to compare it to. But I am curious for any other locals... how does this compare to Turning Stone? Now that I've gotten into it, I'm thinking about exploring Turning Stone and Seneca Niagara, even if only for comparison. I like playing in tournaments (Del Lago won't have those until after the end of April) and I heard that Turning Stone offers free rooms for poker players... is that true? What are the terms there?

Turning Stone offers rooms at a poker rate, not free rooms for poker players. Poker rate means you still have to pay $60-80/night for a room. I am hopeful that as competition between Del Lago, Turning Stone and a few other casinos in the area intensifies, they will have to start offering truly free rooms and free drinks to attract players.

That's still a good deal, but free would definitely be better!

I'm actually going up to check out Turningstone today, mostly because I'm only bankrolled for "lowrolling" and the 1/3 tables seem to turn into 2/5+ tables on the weekends @ Del Lago, but also because I might want to join a tournament. Wish me luck! lol

I picked up the following information from dealers and other players from a session last weekend:

Del Lago's hotel is still under construction and is scheduled to open this summer. They only have 200 rooms, as opposed to Turning Stone's ~700 rooms, so I wouldn't expect any poker rates for rooms there. They currently have some partner hotels in the area (not sure how close to the casino) that they comp through today, but everyone seemed unsure if that would continue once their hotel is up and running.

I agree that the competition between the card rooms is great for the players and hopefully the comps/promotions reflect that.

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

I'm playing rather frequently ( since this is about 10 minutes away). I play the 2/4 usually, but do step up to 1-3 NL on occasion. Room is good, there is a bit of a jump between the two games, and I'm trying to work up either a bigger limit game, or a smaller NL game, but highly doubt it'll ever stay running without a bunch of support of players. Their 1-3 fills that room, especially when they were doing their sunday promotions in March.

I have heard their most recent tournament on Thursday night had about 70 runners, so it looks like they are gathering a bit for tourneys as well. Still a bit of an issue when it comes to cashing out chips ( the entire place has only one cage for all games ) but otherwise a lot of fun to play at.

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

Just got back from del Lago. Had the night off of night shift and chose poker to keep on my sleep schedule. Turned 200 into 400 in ~4hrs at 1/3 NLHE.

For a late Wednesday night, they had three tables running, all 1/3 NLHE. No waiting list on any of them, and there was always at least two seats open between the three tables until midnight. Then it was down to two tables. Pretty much what I expected for the day of week and time of night.

Poker promos were rather weak IMO. $125 high hand every hour til 10pm, $150 str8 flush, $300 royal.

Nice little casino. Sucks only having one cage, but hopefully they'll figure something out to accommodate the poker players.

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

Promotion for June is high hand (no minimum requirement, must use both hole cards) awarded $300 every hour Monday-Friday from 1pm to 9pm

The highest hand of the day wins an additional $1,000 (must play for 3 hours minimum, and still be playing at the end of the promotion period @ 9pm)

Otherwise the only other promotions that always run are $150 for straight flush and $300 for royal flush (must use both hole cards)

There's a 450 tournament next Saturday-the sheet says modified structure but doesn't detail what it is. Anyone know starting stack/level length?

I'm pretty sure I'm the "halfway compitant" person you mention.

I cringed inside when you spoke. I believe you were wearing overalls(maybe suspenders?). You had a long ponytail. Todd Brunson wannabe?

Wow you have a good memory. That was 3 months ago. I've heard the Todd brunson comparison before. Don't own overalls, but suspenders with business casual attire very possible. Was on a business trip. More like a middle aged hippie wannabe 😎

No offense intended. If memory serves, playing an exploitive style versus that lineup would make the most money. Trying to balance your range would be way over thinking it.

Overall I enjoyed myself.

Cheers

Re: del Lago Resort & Casino (Waterloo, NY)

Semi local to del lago , Rochester area.... Happened to be driving down the 90 sat night and decided to finally drop in and check it out...

Overall casino looked nice... Walked around the floor for 15-20 min ... Clean, shiny... Still"new".... Tables were pretty full (floor games).

Only had about 2 hrs to sit but figured I would check the poker room out... Sat at 1-3, there were a few tables of it going along with some 2-5 and idk what else... First thing I thought was odd is the guy running the room was also selling me chips from the podium... Running fills for dealers... And everything else... Overall disorganized... And not suprising he just couldn't keep up...

When I sat there were the usual few stacks around 500-700 a few sitting south of 100 and a few in the middle... Talk about action! Money was flying in Every hand, ace rag was played with more value then you see online! I sat back and watched what seemed to be regs already here chatting about draws that were just too good to not play for large raises... With few outs etc etc... Watched 2 stacks in the 2 hrs I sat drop 700$+ just calling down hand after hand with ace high... Ace rag pair and other crap...personally I played very few hands... Walked out up 2x my $250 buy in... Honestly not wanting to leave because how soft it was...

I will be back due to the lack of skill... Not due to the impressive room... Turning stone is so far ahead... But hey easy $ is easy $!,
